I haven't seen Nathan Harness play but surely he can't be worse than McG can he? I would hope we don't have two keepers in our squad who are frightened to come out and catch the bloody ball. I'd give him a go against Gillingham.
It’s a shame the way it’s gone - I was pleased when we signed him. I’ve defended him for a while, but having just seen that goal from Saturday, enough is enough. Hopefully Portsmouth might want him back, but whatever happens, he can’t be trusted to be out Number 1.
For me it’s his distribution, more so then his lack of commanding his box, that irks me the most.
I’m not sure if it’s indicative of our wider issues when we are in possession of the ball, but I’m fed up of the times when he does have it and our players are splitting and running into space that he never looks to roll/throw it out to them. If he ever does go quickly it’s always the long ball over the top.
Amos's weaknesses suddenly feel like nit picking. Most of the shots from outside the box were because nobody could be bothered to get their body in the way and/or apply pressure.

Felt they were nit picking at the time tbh, don't think you'll get much better than him for this league.
We've been spoilt in the past seasons with keepers, from Ilic, Kiely, Elliott, Hamer, Pope and Phillips being great keepers, to having top loanees like Carson, Steer, Amos and Rudd, and even some of our backup keepers like Andersen, Randolph, Button, Alnwick and Dmitrovic, for most of the last 20 years we've not had many duds (the Weaver era probably being the biggest first choice dud we had, and the end of Henderson first time around wasn't great either) but Macgillivray is the worst first choice keeper we've had since I first watched Charlton in 1994/1995
Questions need to be asked about the goalkeeping coach as well, hes had all season to iron out the weaknesses.
We are just so poor in so many departments, the last thing you need is Calamity Craig between the sticks
CM is 29, at that age he’s not going to make drastic change to his game no matter how good the coaching is.
We were most likely aware of the weakness when we decided to sign him but accepted it regardless. Question is did we look wide and far enough in terms of what other options were available?
Or did we sign him because he is mates with Gallen's brother.......
That's partly tongue in cheek but.
Probably some truth in it. Gallen has said he was working on his own, so he hasn’t had time in the last few years to be scouting hundreds of players or had a team in place to do it for him.
Came to us as Pompey's POTY but he hasn't really shown that he's good enough at all.
In the summer after we bought him in I was playing footy with a Pompey fan and mentioned McG. He just laughed and said he was rubbish which really surprised me as he had just win PoTY. I out it down to sour grapes at the time.
We are stuck with big Mac. Nathan Harness hasn't been on the bench for the last couple of games. Nathan Harvey has. I also understand that Henderson is injured atm.

I share your insanity as I'd watched all games home and away up until Bolton.

Pompey supporters told us he never comes for crosses when we first signed him, I've said it before we'll never get promoted with him in goal.

I'm not just just jumping on the bandwagon - been saying this for months - but his unwillingness to come for crosses means he will never be the goalkeeper we need for a promotion push in this league where the ball gets crossed into the area frequently.
If he plays tonight, just watch him. Rooted to his line as the ball flies dangerously across the 6 yard box.
I was a big fan of Ben Amos and his style of keeping. He genuinely was one of the best catchers of crosses I have ever seen in a Charlton shirt. We have missed him hugely.
Finally I'm still scratching my head at Corey Blackett - Taylor saying on the Bromley Addicks zoom call that he thought MacGillivray was our player of the year so far. Can only assume he doesn't watch much if he's not playing.
See I didn't actually think Amos came for the ball that much either but definitely more than MacG.
Hamer was the best we have had at commanding his box.

He may well have been POTY but our Pompey supporting mates still warned us that his huge weakness is his inability to command his box. He has probably been spoilt at Pompey with big bruising centre backs in Raggett and Matt Clarke previously who were strong at defending set pieces.
No idea what’s going on with the coaching, but it’s a big call swapping keepers at this stage of the season, we’re in a scrap, and need stability, as a collective unit, they’ve all got to stick their hands up, take responsibility and get on with it.
Also have to say the first goal was just as bad from the defenders as goalie.
Inniss is our only CB I’d describe as dominant in the air. Makes having Stockley back even more important. JJ was criticised on his comments about adding more aerial power to the team but it’s definitely a weakness to improve on in the summer, even if it just means a couple of new CBs.
We only gave him a 2 year deal, same with Dobson and Clare. Might suggest we didn’t rate any of them that highly, they were all relatively cheap gambles.
It’ll be interesting to see if we bring in a keeper. If Jackson doesn’t rate him I can’t imagine he’s going to say anything until a replacement has signed.
Adkins identified MacGillivray early on in case we missed out on Amos. Amos was always number one choice for that position.
Dobson was a Martin Sandgaard signing, it took a lot of convincing to Adkins to agree to sign him.
Clare was identified more through Gallen with his previous at clubs like Hearts and Oxford. Robinson also giving his own reference on him.
As things stand I would say Dobson will get a new deal most likely end of summer, Clare quite possibly depending on what he does next season, MacGillvray won’t be.

Dobson HAS to get a new deal at the end of this season... Cant risk losing him on a free next year

Quite surprised anyone would think that of Amos as for me it was the stand out part of his game.
Been really poor for a while. Should really be using next two months sending someone to Ross County matches to see whether AMB can be next years first choice.

We just play such slow and uninspiring football.
Did we keep the receipt?
