  • Sounds to me like Charlton's poster boy of the past few seasons just wants out.
  • If we'd made Dobson a really good offer and he turned it down because he got a much better offer from a bigger club then so be it, that's football.

But what i cannot accept is how someone has decided it's a good idea to a) give him a poor contract offer and b) sell him when we're in a relegation battle. Absolutely shocking.

I hope the owners look back and think the peanuts of a transfer fee was worth it when we're playing at home to Barrow and Harrogate in front of 5k fans next season.
Rumours that he's had several offers and the latest met all his demands.

    Why wouldn’t he ? I wouldn’t fancy league 2 either

Ha, fair point but his performances have started to fall away too. Weird that he couldn't get a gig in the UK if he's as good as many suggest.

If you worked harder than any other employee at your organisation and had been the best performer there for the past few years, but your boss told you he didn't rate you and paid other employees (who put in less effort than you) better money, how long would you stick around?
Just because the last regime made a mistake overpaying players doesn’t mean we should add those mistakes by overpaying others when it’s time for contract renewal.

Agreed that he’s the best player at the club but not because he’s playing like a Championship calibre player, it’s because the players earning Championship calibre money haven’t been pulling their weight.

We had a valuation on how much a player of his ability was worth paying. His camp had a different valuation. That’s the business of football.
The current regime is making mistakes overpaying players that play worse than Dobson.
That hardly negates the point I’m making.

The money Dobson wants it sounds as though he can only get from a random club in Hungary. This isn’t a pre contract with a Championship club, or even another League One club.

We created plenty of problems for ourselves elsewhere but I think that fact probably tells us that, for this particular contract negotiation, the club got it right.
Utter nonsense. Captain. Player of the year and 2nd place player of the year the last two years. 26 years old so coming into his prime. Not worth 4K a week? Nonsense mate
Got a source on that number? I’d have guessed he was on about 4k per week on his last contract and if the rumours of a small increase are true…
    Yep, Mick Dobson
I am not ITK, but I was told this by another fan in Crossbars, about a month ago. it is alleged that Fraser is on £10,000, and Dobbo is on about £4000. He would be happy to sign However, the contract he was offered was for a measly small increase amount. I was told by another person as well. The person i know in Crossbars indicated that this info came directly from Dobbo's Dad.  What I was told he was offered on a new contract I thought "The club are taking the piss".  When Fraser is on £10,000 and Dobbo is on £4000 and what he was offered. (I can't remember the exact figure, but if they offered him a decent contract he would have signed).
Did Dobson and Fraser sign under different owners?

Nope both under TS , Dobson under Adkins in the same summer 21' window  we signed the likes of Kirk and Arter. Fraser Jan 22' same window as Aneke under Jacko.

It surely means we have NOT invested in the squad on net terms rather we are in credit or net nil.

It conflicts with the apparent investment on Jones.

    ??

I can't imagine the fee for Dobbo is very high. I can't imagine his and CBT's fees cover half of Coventry 's, let alone Gillesphey, REG, and Ramsay.

The money has been spent, the question is "has it been spent well?"
you may be right. I thought the fees for CBT and Dobson must be ‘high’ to justify taking it now versus the gamble on relegation.

    Pure speculation on my part.

Just seems odd to cash in if not for a decent amount.

Can say that about all the stuff his dad is saying too. Think in situations like this both sides are usually exaggerating and truth is somewhere in between
  • At this moment,no one has confirmed officially that George has gone.Is it possible that Nathan has somehow intervened ,seen his value and is over riding Scott and trying to get him to stay.
  • I still don't personally feel that we were missing Dobson yesterday, he has been part of a midfield that has underperformed for many years...the person we missed was CBT, his unpredictability was a real asset.

To lose both in a January is negligent however.

Seems to me, the board "feel we are too big to go down" and do not realise the situation we are in.
Thing with Corey though was, he’s an out and out winger. And sometimes he’d go quiet - even though I think he worked hard in pre-season on both his fitness and decision-making. I’m not heading down the “luxury player” with this, but, Curbs pointed out several times that he won’t provide defensive cover. That is a problem if someone insists that we play 3-5-2. It does increasingly seem that that someone is Scott. Personally I agree with whoever it was yesterday that was scathing about insisting on such  a formation in League One. And the two players who are supposed to be the wing backs cannot cross and are pretty lightweight defenders too. But overall it was a genuine question, what formation do you play if you leave Corey to wreak destruction in the way he does best?.

He was an unused sub for Derby yesterday. Someone will know better than me about how Derby set up and whether they are more fluid or pragmatic than to adopt rigidly one system. But I’ll be interested to see how they get the best out of him.

Genuinely interested to know if people would be more or less annoyed if he'd gone to the Championship in January?
I’m not annoyed now. I find it all a bit bizarre to be honest. If Scott doesn’t rate Dobbo as good enough for a team that wants to be challenging for promotion that’s his call and he’ll be judged on it but from Dobbo’s point of view why not just sit out your contract and surely at worst you’d get another league one club in the summer. Going to Hungary is just odd and it’s not as if he can be forced out, he’s under contract. I think there is more at play here than we know of.

This is where I'm at ultimately, it's all a bit confusing. I'd have had no problems if he ran his contract out and went to a championship club in the summer , enough players have done that over the years. The whole thing is just all a bit odd - was a bit surprised there was no January interest even within the league.

Wouldn't be overly surprised if he's back over here by the end of the summer window.
Any player is one bad injury away from the end of his career.

Yes, he could wait till the summer when he's unemployed and see what comes up but that is a big risk.

Or he can take the certainty of a three year deal now.

Looking after himself and his family, is that so terrible?

It has been said he's signed a pre-contract for the summer but that would also, I assume, be dependent on his fitness.

The useful idiots will be out soon, if not already, spinning the Methven line that he was greedy, ungrateful, not that good anyway, he was offered a great deal but turned it down, the directors have done nothing wrong and why can't you see that they are rebuilding the club, everything is great and it's only fan pressure that is causing problems.

Meanwhile we lose our captain and most reliable player in the middle of a relegation battle.

But hey, we got a few hundred grand for him so the accounts look better.

Of course we can only speculate on this, but is moving to a foreign country with a very young family best for them, when this season essentially finishes in 3 months?
  • The simple fact is we have been crap and heading for relegation all season, so the solution has been to get rid of our two current best players in Dobson and CBT.
Andy Scott et al had better keep us up, but losing Dobson especially has made that extremely hard.
Judging by the last couple of games, Coventry as good as he might turn out to be, is nowhere near Dobson when it comes to the fight.
And without the pace and skill of CBT who do we have to unlock the doors of opposition defences?

I was going to say, “wishful thinking”, but you make a good point. Technically it is possible. The well informed Hungarian media are saying he flies out tomorrow for a medical and then -only then- signs a contract with them.

But given that both Rich and Louie have tweeted out that he is off, it would be a pretty massive series of events today to make it happen. I could imagine Jones is furious, not least at being forced to lie to us in his first post-match, but I think it would involve Methven throwing Scott under the bus, and also messing up his  P&L spreadsheet to create the new offer to Dobbo.

But you are right, WIOTOS, much as I hate to use that old trope.

Only we know who leaked the information from his dad.

    It was his dad.

    The people posting said so.

Yes, both sides will "spin" the story to suit their narrative but the family are clearly saying his demands we're not all met and it appears (WIOTOS) that as a result he's leaving.

    That is a lie
  • Don’t see the need for Andy Scott if Jones has been allowed more control. Anyone still down on Steve Gallen in comparison?

We replace the inconsistent but deadly on his day CBT with....

    Fiorini

What a great bit of business.

PS not having a dig but you were insistent that it was impossible Dobson would move to Hungary and no way they could even know who he was.
And I am not seeking to dig back, so I'm speaking to the entire thread in my reply, but I don't retract anything I wrote based on the info available at the time. The missing piece of info that would have persuaded me that the HU bid is at least serious from their side, was the Hungarian Brentford scout mentioned in the news report. This showed that it was not entirely random interest or agent overhype. I still maintain that it is a deal which makes little sense for any of the parties. But for a -far more important -  HU perspective, I would urge everyone to take notice of the correspondent Gaby. He's a friend of Charlton over 10 years (provided material help re Roderick Duchatelet)  and knows the footie of both countries intimately. I see that he has posted a Twitter thread, answering points made there by our Lifer from Fehervar. I'd urge everyone to read it, there are 5 tweets in total (and btw I don't know why I cannot make the tweet appear as a graphic - again)
