Disgraceful, Thomas needs to put the money where his mouth is or he’ll be trying to flog a league 2 team next season. Adkins tactics need a touch up too.
Where to start? That was in general pretty awful. Not impressed with Dobson, Clare or Morgan. Midfield needs an overhaul. None of those three should be starting regularly. Full backs not good enough either. Stockley too isolated, we need to get someone up alongside him. DJ the one bright spark really. Thought Deji did well when he came on.
We are a long way from a top six side, mid table is best I can see. Very depressing.
I was in the minority that did not think Adkins was a good appointment but I can’t blame him for this debacle.
This lies solely at the feet of the “Rockstar Owner” who seems to love the limelight and adulation from the fans - but doesn’t seem to realise that the love will run out pretty sharpish unless he invests.
Sorry, I just don’t get it, what is the point of buying a loss making League One team and then not actually trying to improve their squad and get promoted? Why waste everyone’s time like this?
1 point in 9 and out the league cup with a whimper. Worst
start to a season in 6 or 7 years.
Was obvious when we are starting a campaign with a
threadbare squad, a right back at left back, resigning Ben Watson who
once a great player has been mediocre for Charlton and not replacing Aneke that
we have completely wasted a preseason and are entirely unprepared for this campaign.
This current set of players is more likely to be near a
relegation battle than a promotion push as there is not enough depth of quality and a couple of injuries will decimate
us.
Not sure whether the recruitment strategy was by design or
just complete miscalculation but 4 games into the season and we look so far
away from a top 6 push and squad seems even weaker than last year.
Season started over 2 weeks ago yet we seem to be banking on
doing some transfer business in the next 2 weeks to magically turn the fortunes
around. When you factor in inevitable injuries
and drops in performance then we are at least 5 players short from a serious
promotion push.
If we are only a handful of players short then they must be
bloody big hands. Either the task at hand is not understood or there is acceptance that promotion talk/ challenge is just pie in the sky.
Something feels off and surely Adkins cannot think he has assembled/ been permitted to assemble a competitive squad.
Lots resting on the next 14 days of bringing some quality in numbers in otherwise yet another season of drab, turgid 3rd division football ahead I fear.
I am not proud to say that I have been calling this for weeks & weeks. Got pelters on the Transfer Rumours thread back in early July when I questioned our lack of transfers.....got told not to panic & the transfer window doesn't close until end of August.
Even got told by a poster that they wanted to rip my head off & piss down my neck for daring to suggest that TS's transfer policy was no different to Duchatalet. I said at least under RD we brought players in.
Seems like TS is happy to rely on the U23's. That's ok if you have a Shelvey, a Gomez or a Parker. Not so good if you have Claydon, Roddy or Vennings.
Think it might be too late anyway. Most of the good players have joined new clubs and any other players we are interested in the selling clubs will know we are desperate & will be upping their prices as I type.
Just too fucking late. Time to strengthen was back in June & July.
Could be in the bottom 4 come 5pm Saturday. And I dare anyone to call me a bedwetter.
Didnt come out for it in the slightest, would love to know why Inniss got taken off - Elewere did well but a bit like Joe Pigott when we played Millwall, he's just not ready for this level of Football - I'm all for using youngsters, as they'll raise transfer fees, but its suicidal throwing them in far too early like that.
We just didnt get going
Kirk I feel really sorry for, probably wasnt ready if he's not trained enough with this team but get him into the game, you hear commentators saying that players should be given a feel for the ball as soon as they get on the pitch, but the poor lad was bloody ignored.
Still refuse to panic as other teams have finished top six after a bad start, but god do we need an improvement.
Trouble is; Sheff Wed and Oxford, they're the teams you can expect to struggle against.
Milton Keynes, no disrespect but they're the standard team at this level - If we're struggling agains them its a concern.
You’ll be shocked how high they finish this year. They keep the ball better than anyone and their front 3 can rival any in the division.

To be honest was there anyone overly excited when Adkins' name first got mentioned?
He helped himself by having a very strong end to the season, but that wasnt his squad was it...
2 The LB fan club, scenting blood, will make a resurgence.
3 Wait til the loans come in
4 Wait til the Jan window.
5 It's Ben Watson's fault.
Haha very good wheresemeticket
i haven’t posted for a while, I was defo point 2 in the LB fan club, but I’ve moved on.
Not what anyone wants to hear but we are stable as a club off the pitch which is the most important thing. Obviously it may take some time and patience before we get it right on the pitch. Just happy that we don’t have to worry about not having a club.
Like I said in the match thread, we could have brought on Neymar when Washington got injured and it wouldn't have made a difference. The only play we have is lump it to Stockley and pray.
The midfield 3 are no better than when we had Foley and Crofts in midfield, it's completely devoid of guile, drive and technical proficiency.
Morgan lovers cling on to one or two passes every game that he manages to pull off, but the other 95% of his play is not good enough, he also got booked for a petulant challenge after getting frustrated at himself, not what we need.
Dobson is a non entity, a destroyer who can't break play up very well
Clare is an athlete, and that's it, may as well be a cross country runner.
DJ is a waste of space, I'd sooner play a left back on loan at right wing than him, and that's saying something
Gunter is the worse FB I have seen in a Charlton shirt. Bring back bowyer or bring back curbs. Adkins over confidence positive enthusiasm is just bullshit to cover his in capabilities as a manager. We are going nowhere this season hopefully not to division 4 for first time. Looks very desperate to me. Need someone up with stockley if 3 or or not one player has got to be close to work of him.
Shocking! Three games in and we look below average, we’re so far behind and if we’re including Wimbledon, that is three defeats in a row. Doesn’t breed confidence and we look a shambles.
It's only taken 3 1/2 games for what now appears to be the majority to see how woefully short in squad size and quality we are.
I don't want apologies from anybody who attacked me or anybody else who dare question what the fuck is going on.
I want the club to take this shit seriously. We are in very bad trouble. If Stockley gets injured we are royally fucked.
This is as bad as I've known it playing wise. Please CAFC listen to us. We need reinforcements. And quickly.
Don't be a bellend all your life, 99% of this forum knew we were short, both in quality and quantity. Sure, a few (including myself) might have overestimated the quality of the first XI we've been able to put out but we all knew we needed depth.
Three defeats and one draw. Only two goals scored. One a penalty. And five conceded. No wins. If an American can’t understand those stats and buy some players then we’re screwed.

My frustration comes from how pedestrian the team looks with such a small amount of recruitment.

I asked on the match thread - has he come for a cross all season?
He looks a huge downgrade at the moment.
