Post-match Thread: Charlton v Wigan — 21/8/2021

edited August 2021 in General Charlton
Two teams in a cagey affair largely canceling each other out for three quarters of the match. Wigan had the better of the chances early on, but failed to capitalise with more than one great save from MacGillevary.

Wigan were able to run out to a two goal victory after bringing on a higher quality of fresh legs. They got better with their subs. We’re not good enough and, despite what the usual suspects will say, everyone can see that. Trust that the recruitment team is working hard to address the obvious weaknesses.

I suggest you go out for a bit of fresh air this evening, rather than stew on things behind the keyboard.

  • Shit. End of.
  • Covered end wasn't wrong. We're fucking shit. Never really looked like scoring, don't remember Amos make a single save.

On that note, quality in difference. Amos was quality for them today.
  • Need some serious recruitment, more than “a handful” of signings needed. Terrible.

  • 4 games. No wins. No goals from open play. No goals at all at home.

One defeat in 10 seems like an awful long time ago.
  • Put your money where your mouth is and sign some decent players TS.

it’s not that the team played badly, it’s that the players just are not good enough. Pathetic.
  • We will struggle to stay up this year with this team.
  • Cue Adkins ' we had a good 20m' 'unnecessary goal' ' honest players'.
Our midfield is not good enough undividually or as a unit. We have no natural goalscorer and our defence is shaky.
Still a 'handful' of loans should sort all that out

  • Still too early to be writing off the season?
  • On the plus side, Watson is up to speed for a full game.

    Oh
  • I was always going to be satisfied with stability and rebuilding this season before a dynamic surge into the Premier League and Europe but did not expect things to be this bad so soon
  • ‘A tough game and of course we’re disappointed it went against us. We’ll work hard in training this week and go again.’
