He’ll probably end up at Gillingham next
He might not be and factors point to him maybe playing above himself now such as nobody coming in for him when he was available on loan but what I can't have is people saying he is hiding or looking for the easy ball. Trying to split a defence in half isn’t easy and you need your teammates to help and give you options, how many dummy runs or actual runs do you remember from the games this season let alone tonight?  I don’t owe him anything but he isn't coasting and cruising like a handful of his teammates
Maybe not and he did marginally better tonight. But he’s still no way good enough. He doesn’t add anything and left the man free for their goal. Gilby in that role soon hopefully.

    Lol, good then was it?
Yeah but….60% possession (lavelle and Pearce passing to each other) and 18 shots (wild sky high or pea rollers) so what’s there to not be happy about!!!!

I don’t know why but our full backs not crossing the half way line really really irritates me. Probably more than it should tbf.

Hello, I said we weren't crap and we had six shots on target. We still did not win and we still look like a mid table team which is still an improvement on 23rd.
Watch it back and both Matthews and Purrington had many runs into Gillingham's half in the first period. That must of happened when you were going to the fridge for a beer or having a piss ?
Purrington made runs and set up a couple of chances. 2nd half when the home team came Into the game then defending is important as we were in danger of throwing it all away again.

After the last two fucking terrible performances I thought we stopped the rot.

Who Adkins picks for Pompey is anyone's guess but at least we will know on Friday when VFR tells us the team.*

*A Dan and Nick are joining CL on Friday morning.

The fridge for a beer? I was at the game.

The only time Matthew’s even attempted a cross was when CBT got doubled up on late first half and even that was from well deep. Purrington hardly saw the ball first half, defensively sound but absolutely zero intention of getting close to Washington. I’m not blaming the players here, the instruction comes from Adkins. His rigid back 4 preference is there for all to see.

And how many points did those stats get us?
What, you’d rather we didn’t have those sort of stats? You don’t score without shots on target, and god knows we’ve had far too few this season.

You want us going back to one shot off target ?

I said before the first game of the season we would struggle to score from open play.

I have reset so I was pleased to see the first half performance and at least creating chances now Elliott Lee has arrived along with CBT who did to McKenzie what he did to the Crawley full back.

Only disappointment awaits if you think we are strong enough to be in contention this season.

    Just got back in.

Should of finished them off first half lucky to hold on second.

Did well first half but still miles from being good enough against a very average team.

Lacked concentration again and switching off for there goal.

Our fitness seems miles behind everyone else and it showed second half.

Frustrating that Adkins did not seem to be able to adapt in second half when it was clear they had changed and was dominating, instead he reacted after the goal when it was to late.

CBT very good and made a massive difference first half with his pace offering and outlet.

Still very worrying signs and nothing pointing to this improving.

First 30 we were mustard.....and then we went quiet. They changed their formation 2nd half and Dempsey and LLoyd ran the show for them. Davison unlucky with a great chance, goalie made a great save. CBT looks a player and we should offer him a longer contract.

Dempsey was class especially in the second half, gillingham fans rate him as the closest thing to Hessenthaler since Hessenthaler and thats praise considering his son has come and gone at gillignham. He has the same energy and directness about him as a Kinsella for me and he was a similar player to Hessenthaler as well.

Lloyd the sub was very good too.

Someone told me to watch the Wycombe game on the App because I was too positive about the performance. I’m sure if you watch the second half again you’ll see he didn’t go looking for the ball, or offer himself up as an outlet.

I dont mean literally fuck off as he seems a good guy but come on a point against Gillingham... onwards and upwards FML. This is an absolute joke and we are a joke of a club.

He doesn’t want to take any kind of chances - hugely playing within himself and, in my opinion, shouldn’t be in the team at the moment. He needs someone to take him to one side and spend time telling him the ability he does have because, if he doesn’t take a few risks, he’s going to run out of time.

I had a better view than you because Purrington  did get forward on a few occasions, they even showed one run he did on replay when he set up a chance for Washington in the first half but Conor wasn't sharp tonight.

I call matches as I see them not copy what other say. Nigel Adkins has had a poor time in control this season, with the Cheltenham 1st half one of the most inept I have ever witnessed. Clueless and embarrassing.
Hull 6-0 and Watford 5-0 were poor but that was in the Championship and both teams were heading for the premier. If those matches were boxing bouts, they would've been stopped as we were taking too much punishment.

I'm not sure Adkins will survive more than 15 games but tonight there were positives with Gilbey and Purrington returning.

Somehow Nigel must get the guy with the 4 year contract to contribute to the team.
This is turning into a tough gig as we have no super sub Chuks and the Ronnie Schwartz saga is hush, hush.

We wanted a change, we got one. We wanted a decent performance, we got half of one. We wanted a result, perhaps not the result we wanted but we got a point. As others have said we should have put it to bed in the first half. Struggling to see why our performances in each half were so chalk and cheese. Was it the team talk from hell or are out squad just not fit enough. Everything in the second half looked a bit flat and clueless.

I'm optimistic that we can build on that first half performance to produce better on Saturday. I'm pessimistic that already it'll be meaningless anyway. A bit like the point we earned tonight. I'm already at the stage where I think, I hope that counts for nothing at the end of the season.

He was their no 8 right ? Ran the show & especially in the first half where he was constantly picking up the ball & surging forward with it. Just the player we need ......but we went for Dobson & Clare instead.

The transfer team ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Morgan was awful second half. I think I'm done with him unfortunately
He's got a bit of everything, but for me he's just not quite there with anything to justify the prominent role he has in our team.

He's just not quite as skilled or visionary enough to be a good attacking midfielder.
He's just not quite physical enough to be a good defensive midfielder.
He's just not quite got the pace or energy to be a box to box midfielder.
He's just not quite got the accuracy or consistency to be the main dead ball specialist.

And yet, despite these (sometimes marginal) shortcomings, he's consistently starting for us. I think he's good enough to play a role, but the fact that he's a constant starter is quite an indictment of our other midfielders.

Their 8 was outstanding - but then, we gave him the space that allowed him to be. I thought their 17 was good as well, but again he was allowed to much space.

Whilst we're talking about their players, was one of them running around with the word Shithole on his back?

    Get over yourself mate
If you had been there you would agree with me.

Thrre were hundreds of people outside Gillingham station as they had locked the doors so no-one could get inside.

I mean wtf ??  Has nobody learnt anything  from Hillsborough  ?  Good job there wasn't more fans.....or drunken rowdy ones or it could have really got nasty.

I really would like to ask someone in authority what they were thinking. What was the rationale for locking hundreds of people (whether they were football fans is completely immaterial imo) outside of a train station at 10pm. When the doors were finally unlocked there was an almighty scrum & someone could really have got seriously hurt.

The only thing I can think is that they wanted empty trains to be there waiting so we could all board as soon as getting onto the platforms  rather than overcrowding the 2 main platforms in use for London bound trains -  but then all they did was move the problem from inside the station to outside.

What didn't happen was any communication to let us know this. Nothing.

As I said - Hillsborough on a smaller scale.

And apart from all that - again civil liberties being totally trodden on. What makes it right that I cant enter a train station at 10pm to get home ?

    Being a football fan

A few locals are rearing their ugly heads on the local community groups on Facebook about the way policing was handled. I didnt go near the station as thankfully this game is a 15 minute door to door job but it seemed sensibly handled even if there was a lot of both local and MET police everywhere. Cant blame them (not for the crowding at the station, that, whilst predictable is nonsense especially without communication) when we have saved up some our more stupid behaviour for this fixture

Would of loved Dempsey but it didn't happen.

Of course games are won and lost in both boxes but the midfield battle in terms of limiting the opposition chances and creating our own is massive and we controlled and dominated that 1st half and using CBT as a outlet.

We have been blessed with some top midfielders over the past few seasons, and with the loss of our main man JFC from last season, we have been bit lacklustre in that department address that and get that midfield ticking and I think we be alright.

    Positives - Lee, Gilbey, Blackett-Taylor
Negatives - Once Dempsey moved forward and Oliver shifted wide to compete with Matthews for headers, Gillingham were in control.
Not as bad as Wycombe or Cheltenham but that's little consolation

Ignore me Golfie, that post was unnecessarily rude and I deleted it accordingly. Apologies.

I was amongst that with my son and his mate and agree that it was over the top. We seem to carry a bit of a reputation on our travels these days and the policing seems a bit too much when, to me,  it just seems to be a load of skinny kids shouting at each other. I only get to five or six away games a season so maybe I’m wrong?

The hope given first half was all but gone within 5 mins of the second as they overrun us and the inevitable equaliser that followed .
I thought we had the rub of the green with the refs decisions , if we’d been on the end of those decisions there would have been floods of tears from the whole footballing worlds against us crew .
Theres so much ordinariness about us interspersed with the odd flash of brilliance but we are so shit we’re trying to find any slither of hope that we aren’t utter shit but for now that is exactly what we are .
It’s so soul destroying watching the life being sucked out of us in this pisspot league where we currently belong with bells on it .

Didn't watch the game due to the time difference and it being Mid-Autumn Festival here.

I hope a battling draw is enough to start hopefully turning the corner.

I am starting to feel for Adkins, he did say he wanted his squad together for pre-season and he ended up with the opposite. And to be fair, we were starting to show a decent pattern of play at the end of last season, particularly the Peterborough game which we lost but dominated in possession. Hopefully this style is on its way back now.

Also appreciate that he's not afraid to change it up and make big decisions re: dropping Stockley etc.

Of course we really do have to turn the corner now, if we regress again, it's not enough. But I'd much rather Adkins turn it around rather than having to bring someone else.

Oh and what a find "Tranmere Reject" CBT is turning out to be. We better sign him up to a longer-term deal soon.
