Need to try something different, but no time to work on it. That means back to basics and 442, at least for Saturday, because all the players will know how to play it.
CM
Matthews Lavelle Pearce Purrington
Leko Dobson Arter Gilbey
Washington Stockley
Pick the best players we can while prioritising those with the character for the fight. Don't try and persist with two wingers, play a Curbs style lopsided 442 with the 3 centre mids. Gilbey edging out Lee for the wide centre mid role. Could consider swapping Lee for Washington too. Leko to provide the spark, I thought he was good on Tuesday and was amazed to read him getting slated by some on here.
If Lee is fit, he starts. Absolutely end of.
Gilbey over Arter, however, is something I'd contemplate, although in a midfield two he's pretty lightweight.
Here's my version:

fuckknows Lavelle Pearce Purrington
Clare Dobson Gilbey
Lee
Leko Washington
yes, observant people will notice I've dropped Stockley; this is because he has been terrible this season.

Alot of people starting Dobson in their lineups! Not saying I disagree as I could never fathom why he disappeared he played ok I though before he was dropped. Interesting to see if we do have a new structure and lineup this weekend

He had an absolute nightmare at MK Dons, but since then he's also looked like Pirlo against Crawley and some kids so deserves some B.O.D.
Is it only me that finds it hard to take someone seriously when he's recording it from his bedroom studio? I half expected his mum to walk in with a cup of tea and a choccy biscuit..........................

Yup but others have also had a nightmare game and havent been sent to Siberia! On that basis Albie would be on Jupiter by now 😂

Dobson was a CB in his youth at West Ham and has the defensive mindset we need at CDM. He can pick a pass and was well thought of at Wimbledon but Pirlo he ain’t.
If he can temper the urge to dive in on occasions perhaps with help from an old head like Arter Watson or Pearce talking talking him through a game he could nail that position down.
From memory Jackson has played under or observed a lot of managers since he has been at Charlton.
Phil Parkinson Keith Peacock Chris Powell Jose Riga Bob Peeters Damian Matthew Guy Luzon Karel Fraeye Russell Slade Karl Robinson Kevin Nugent Lee Bowyer Nigel Adkins
I wonder what the single best quality Jacko could take as a learning point from each person on that list.
Make sure there is a laundry basket in the dressing room .......................... just in case.
Dobson would certainly have something to prove against his old club.
I'm not a massive Dobson fan, but on that basis he has to be picked
"Having dominated the game, but hit the woodwork 8 times, Sunderland were stunned in the 89th minute when former player George Dobson came back to haunt them, dribbling past 5 players before curling the ball into the top corner from 25 yards to score a brilliant winner."
Blackpool here, always keep an eye out for you lot. Desperate times but you will pull through. There is always light at the end of the tunnel . Keep the faith
That'd be my pick. If DJ isn't doing it, easy to rotate him with Leko and Morgan has also done a job from LM before now.
Not sure about persevering with 2 wingers again Daz so I’ve made a couple of changes to make us a bit more solid and experienced 😉
Exactly we've already seen you can't play with two wingers, even more with two wingers who won't chase back. What we need is a Johnny Robinson who'll run up & down all day long & a Graham Stuart who'll give you width but can also tuck in & again will chase back. Well I can dream can't I ?
Funny how Stockley is everyone’s number one choice, when Davison has been the better option all season. Is he really seen as a safer bet?
Stockley was shocking the other night. Granted he scored, but dear oh dear. He has no pace, he can’t hold up the ball, he can’t flick it on to team mates. And he even missed a headed sitter. Plus we just look so poor when he’s the sole striker.

Winning post. Get rid of the non contributing light weight wingers. It's like playing with 9 men and when NA brought on CBT for Lee at Lincoln, it was like playing with 8 players. Then he couldn't understand why we barely got a kick for 70 mins.

CBT has been a genuine bright spark when used well. He's looked superb when Lee has been on the field and less good when Lee hasn't, but ruling him out is very weird.
As for Leko, he's been arguably our best player this season.
What's wrong with wide forwards? If you play a midfield 3 behind them, they should be able to cover the full-backs adequately and the wingers should be free to attack
'non contributing lightweight wingers' is some Bowyer talk. At some point you have to back attacking play. Really annoyed by that phrase. Leko, CBT, even DJ really not contributed? Look at our goals and assists...

Kirk and Leko barely touched the ball at Lincoln and CBT didn't either until late on. What percentage of time has CBT been used well? We need 100%, but I'd reckon it's around 25%, so not contributing 75%. The wide forwards have not been doing any defensive duties and not much offensive either. Leko played well against Accrington, but CBT barely figured again until late on. What is needed is players that can offer 100% from first to last whistle. Not players that contribute every 4 or 5 games and even then only for a small part of the game. Our full backs have been 2v1 all season and boy could they do with some protection. We're 3rd from bottom, not 3rd from top.
