209-7 and now just need another 37 to make Lancs bat again. Qadri (73 off 160) has now overtaken Compton (72 off 265) in a partnership currently worth 127.
281-9 at tea and a lead of 35. Minimum of 23 overs left though I believe 2 will be taken off for the change of innings. We, therefore, probably need to bat for another 15/16 overs.
A bit of perspective in relation to Compton's achievements in this match:
Faced 289 balls in 403 minutes in the 1st innings and 340 balls in 462 minutes in the 2nd innings for a total of 629 balls and 865 minutes at the crease in the match That is the longest any Kent batsman has batted for in a CC game comfortably beating Rob Key's 719 minutes against Surrey Compton is the first Kent player to score centuries in his first three innings
Lost by 10 wickets. The fact that there were just a dozen overs to go in the match makes it somewhat infuriating that our numbers 2 to 7 inclusive managed just 44 runs between them in the 2nd innings and faced almost 200 less balls than Compton did alone. This wasn't a poor pitch.
Some big decisions to be made for me, biggest one being bell Drummond. He really is not up to it in red cricket for me, his inability to get the front pad out the way constantly makes him a walking wicket.

The funny thing is that I don't think it is that big a decision so far as DBD is concerned as it is the reason they took the red ball VC away from him. Denly and Leaning will return when fit - for DBD and probably Muyeye.
The bigger decision is how to leave Qadri out for Linde. I mentioned that Stevens could be the one omitted but also thought that DBD could be the 4th seamer. With him not in the side, would we leave say Cox or Robinson out to have Linde at 6 and Stevens at 7?
The 2s take on Northants in their next Championship game - there are 8 Kent pros in the 12 (Blake, Podmore, O'Riordan, Logan, Quinn, Klaassen, Stewart and Singh) plus George Ealham, Joe Gordon (former Kent Academy), Will Harby (17 year old Kent Academy) and 23 year old S W (Billy) Mead who is keeping wicket and has previously played for the 2nd X1s of Surrey, Somerset, Warwickshire and Hants though never played a pro match.
Kent won the toss and elected to bowl. Link to scorecard below:
That's 978 runs at an average of 108.67. He's only averaging 174.00 for us!
Here's a thought as to why it has taken 'til he has reached 28 to secure a place at a county. He is a red ball batsman and from everything I've known and said about the ECB and counties looking for white ball batsmen he just hasn't been fashionable - he's never played a pro T20 of any description.
Is it possible that the pendulum is moving slightly and that every county might now look at having at least one batsman in their squad who is purely a crease occupier? That can only be good for England if that is the case and as @killerandflash has said if Compton carries on like this then it would be difficult not to see him being given an opportunity. Time will tell but he will have to continue to do this for a good part of the season before that call comes from Rob Key!
An example of the complete antithesis of Compton would be someone like Tom Banton. He is playing for Somerset 2s today - and batted at 4 and is out already for 12. Another T20 specialist, Will Smeed, batted at 5 and didn't trouble the scorers!
Sadly not. Kent aren't very good at setting up the cameras especially at somewhere like Polo Farm - we haven't even got the benefit of wickets and boundaries unlike some of the other 2s games going on and ours away to Sussex last week.
Grant Stewart on loan to Sussex for a month according to the BBC
Not a surprise. Stewart took wickets and scored runs against them in the last 2s game and also took 5 wickets in the current match against Northants before being pulled out yesterday. We have 5 pro seamers in the 2s which only acts as a blocker for any young quicks coming through who we want to have a look at. Stewart is also currently behind Stevens, Milnes, Bird, Gilchrist, Quinn and Podmore in red ball.
The squad for this week's game is the XI who played against plus Quinn.
With Stewart leaving the 2s game a replacement has been called for by the name of J K Denly who has bowled 10 overs for 24 runs to date. This can't be Joe as he is injured and he is J L Denly anyway so this has to be, presumably, his nephew, Jayden.
Playing for Kent from age group through to the 2nd XI over the last few years there has been a whole team of well known names of Kent past and present albeit a few of them also played for other counties:
Ealham x 2 Denly Masters Fulton x 2 Marsh Clinton Saggers Walker Stanford

Is that Tom and George Ealham following in dad and grandad's footsteps?

Keep this up, and will England start looking at Compton, who seems to fit the bill for a solid opener?
