  • The squad for this week's game is the XI who played against plus Quinn.

With Stewart leaving the 2s game a replacement has been called for by the name of J K Denly who has bowled 10 overs for 24 runs to date. This can't be Joe as he is injured and he is J L Denly anyway so this has to be, presumably, his nephew, Jayden.

Playing for Kent from age group through to the 2nd XI over the last few years there has been a whole team of well known names of Kent past and present albeit a few of them also played for other counties:

    Ealham x 2
    Denly
    Masters
    Fulton x 2
    Marsh
    Clinton
    Saggers
    Walker
    Stanford

Is that Tom and George Ealham following in dad and grandad's footsteps?
Time will tell on that front but it is possible - of the two I would say that Tommy is the better prospect.
  • Kent won the toss and will bat against Hants. Same team as against Lancs. Link for live stream below:

  • 17-1

Crawley out. Excuse my language but, seriously, WTF is he doing - this is someone who is not batting like an England opener should!!!!

  • Does anyone know if the bar is open at Beckenham during a second 11 game?

I'm told that the bar is not open at Beckenham during 2s games there.
  • 97-1 at lunch

    Compton 26* (94)
    DBD 61* (82)
  • Compton is an example of someone with limited talent but who understands his game and is making the absolute most of that talent. Sadly, at the moment, Crawley is an example of someone who is extremely talented but who is making very limited use of that talent by constantly throwing his wicket away - he can't blame poor wickets for that either as it is all to do with his shot selection.

It's really frustrating to see because we all want him to do well for Kent and England. I recently watched an interview with Greg Chappell (which I also showed to Seb because he also has a habit of finding ways of getting out) and he basically said that he reached a point where he realised that nine out of ten times he was getting out was down to him. It's not that they were bad balls but that he wasn't doing everything he could to value his wicket. He changed to treating each and every ball as an entity in itself - not thinking about the last ball or the scoreboard but just concentrating in the moment and reacting to the ball rather than pre-meditating. Crawley will do well to watch the Youtube clip in question.

  • Really worried for what might come next for Crawley, looks like he has lost his way completely. Can’t see him getting back into the England side especially with the form Haines is showing at Sussex !

Bell Drummond on the other hand,  looks a million dollars today, had previously questioned his ability in red ball cricket but with zero movement in the pitch today, he has come out and played his shots like we all know he can. Really think adopting this more aggressive style, is the way forward with DBD.

On a separate note, I can’t imagine the bowlers will be too happy being served up another road to bowl on. That’s three in a row we have had!
  • Jaydn Denly top scored coming in at 9 with 33 out of 149 all out for the 2s. Kent lost by 276 runs.
  • A rare sight - Compton is bowled for 27 (103) with the score on Nelson!

    DBD 75* (100)

  • Followed by the soft dismissal (caught down the leg side by the diving keeper) for a single.

    119-3
  • DBD 100* (163)
  • 177-3 at tea with Deebs 106 not out, bless him.

Great minds Fanny. The rest might believe that we are fools that seldom differ but we allow them to think that can't we?
  • 250-4 DBD out for 149. Cox 51* & Robinson 7*
  • 255-5 Robinson out for 7
  • It's fair to say the start of the cricket season has somewhat passed me by so I've just been catching up on the last three weeks' worth of posts on this thread.

    Which leads me to ...

Looks like poor old Compton is out of form and needs to be dropped to the Magoos to rebuild his confidence ...
  • 264-6 Cox out for 51

    271-7 at close

    Milnes out for 4
    Stevens 13*
    Qadri 2*
  • 305 all out

    Barker 24-10-53-6
  • Hants 47-1 at lunch off 16 overs

    Milnes 7-2-17-1
  • 193-3

Two wickets for the promising Gilchrist. These aren't Lord Stevens' conditions and as such his presence is the equivalent of Woakes in Australia. Today's return so far is 6-0-30-0 which means that his figures for the season are 50-11-140-1. By comparison, having picked up a dozen wickets in the 2s and bowling quite fast by all accounts, Grant Stewart, on loan at Sussex, has figures of 27-6-77-2 on his debut.

    Bring him home!
  • 291-4

Vince out on Nelson. 3rd wicket for Gilchrist - our most consistent bowler this season.
  • 337-4

Hants lead by 32. Are we facing a third game from three this season where the opposition reach 500 plus?
  • So much for our strong bowling attack

Something will have to change for the next game surely

Bird is injured and Stevens (1-215) will probably be replaced unless the latter produces one of those innings in this game. Linde will replace Qadri if fit to do so. If Denly and Leaning are fit they will come back in too. So that's potentially five changes.

Stewart also top scored in the 2nd innings with 67 not out
