Trouble with a major clear out (again) in the summer is whether people still trust Gallen and co with our recruitment. He has bought so many of these players to the club. Appreciate he has had a tough time of it with RD/ESI etc and also that he made some great loan signings such as Cullen, Bielik, Gallagher. But his successes are getting further and further away.
Gallen may want to buy Sainsbury quality players, but if there is only an Aldi budget, he can only buy what he can afford. Which isn't Sainsbury quality.

May as well close the thread, we ain't going to fu*king Wembley, 'cos we got beat by bloody Hartlepool and let's face it we deserved nothing better on the night, no use slaying one player for missing a penalty, they are all to blame... So we have another league match v Portsmouth Monday to look forward to, and a chance to redeem some pride in our club, Jacko is certainly well and truly past the honeymoon period and into the caky end of the game, i'm sure he has the balls to sort it and get what is left of the season back on track starting with 3 points at Fratton Park..
We usually do well against Pompey, let's keep those straws firmly clutched.😌
I give up. We are league one, and should stay up. I don't think we are going anywhere for many years to come, unless TS gives up in 22/23 or 23/24 and we drop down.
Every season its gets worse.
Next season we could have a right battle to stay in this division, assuming we dont go down this season.

We're in L1. I bet our budget is bigger than a lot of the teams above us in the table
When he bought us TS said that going up in the first season would be a bonus but not essential and the business plan was for this season.
Since then Covid has restricted attendances, we have failed to go up again this season and it looks like to have any chance next season he will need to throw a lot more cash at it, likely at a time attendances (and hence revenue) will dip as people lose the interest of a new owner bounce.
Just how deep are those pockets... Or do Pope/Gomez save us?
Last season we missed the playoffs by a smidgen, despite a horrendous midtable slump. It was all set up for us to build on that and really go for it this season, with the surge in season tickets being bought with the excitement about how we were going to storm the league...
Next season we'll be starting from a lower base, and all the TS generated excitement will have fizzled out.

Yep, I think we need Burnley to get relegated so Pope will be sold. Even though it would be a cut of a smaller amount it'll give whomever our manager is in the summer something to play with.
Karl Robinson was largely criticised for persisting with the same formation all the time. Jacko is doing the exact same.
Lee Bowyer was largely criticised for putting square pegs in round holes. Jacko is doing the same.
Nigel Adkins was largely criticised for underperforming with a ‘good squad’. Jacko is doing the same.
He’s seen, first hand, the effects of all of the above, yet he hasn’t learnt from any of his predecessors mistakes.
Sorry this is bollocks, not saying Jackson is the next Clough but too much emphasis is on the manager. Our players are mid table quality, thats where we will be at the end of the season. Too many average players in this. Get recruitment right in the summer we'll have a good chance of going up. Don't (as like last summer) we'll be in league one another year.
Another horror show. If Dobson gets injured we have a massive problem as without him the midfield was non existant. So many players were appalling, not just poor, but appalling.
I said it after the Fleetwood game that 3-5-2 has been sussed by our opposition and it happened again tonight. High press, our back 3 panic and start hoofing the ball to no-one and the ball comes straight back at us constantly.
Both wng backs were dreadful, Purrington was all over the sho and Leko just gives the ball away or tries to beat a man 3/4 times and falls over. Matthews was terrible and I don;t know where to start with Watson - terrifying that he is on the bench every week, quite possibly one of the most inept midfield dispays I have ever seen. He barely moved from the centre circle and did nothing but fall over and give the ball away.
Famewo is getting worse and worse. His passing is abysmal.
Washington looks lost without Stockley.
Am going to again criticise Jackson. He is going the same way as Karl Robinson - resolutley sticking to a formation which leaves us hopelessly exposed at the back, butter like in midfield and creating very few chances. He has got to have a plan B when it goes wrong, I am not seeing one at present.
This group of players needs to take a long hard look at themselves. Too many times this season they have gone trough the motions and and shown no fight or commitment. The drop off in the intensity of our play since Jackson go the job is nothing short of pathetic.
I don't care about the trophy, but the level of performace leaves me increasingly concerned over where this season is heading. If we looked solid at home then I wouldn;t be overly concerned, but we don't, however it gets dressed up, we were shite against Fleetwood and stumbled past them. We look totally lost away from home and are being out fought on the pitch and out thought off it.
Feck me, people slitting their wrists over the pizza cup.
Not the fact we are our of this cup but over the performance.
Did you watch? If so, you will have seen how outplayed we were by a team that is about 16th in the league below us.
If you didn't, you were incredibly lucky.
I did watch, if you want my take on it I will let you have it, understand if you think my views are not in keeping with everyone else and probably should be ignored.

Listen, I enjoy reading everyone's views. It's why I come on here. Obviously there will be some I don't agree with but that doesn't make them any less important.
There’s been so many low moments in the last few years, it’s hard to get your head around just how far we’ve fallen.
Imagine you could go back in the DeLorean and talk to yourself when we were in the Premier League.
Future Me: I’ve just come from 2022. Past Me: Oh wow, 17 years time. Did we sneak a Champions League spot in the end?
Future Me: Ummmm…no we just lost on penalties to Hartlepool, after being outplayed by Hartlepool, in the Papa John’s Trophy QF Past Me: Is that what they call the Champions League in the future….? Future Me: Ummm no. It’s a cup played by the teams outside the top two divisions, plus some Premier League youth teams. Past Me: WTF?!
Future Me: Yes, it’s actually named after a shit pizza company…. and it was all we had to play for in the 21/22 season as we bob about in the bottom half of the third division. Past Me: Third Division!?!?!….that’s terrible.
But it must mean Palace are non-league. Go on, give me the good news. Are they out of business? Future Me: …..you better sit down.
Could we play a diamond and try Bowyer's tested formation at this level?
MacGillivray Clare - Inniss - Famewo - Purrington Gilbey - Dobson - Morgan Lee Aneke - Burstow
I honestly believe if you try a diamond, 3-5-2, 5-3-2, 4-1-4-1, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, 4-3-2-1, 4-3-3, 4-2-4, 4-5-1, 4-4-1-1, 3-4-3 or any other combination of 11 players nothing would change. I’m not being facetious toward you mate, I know you are genuinely trying to look on the positives, but I don’t think the formation will make much of a difference in the long run.
I do think it’s been worked out, and doesn’t fit the players we have, but I think if we adopted something else, it would probably get worked out quite quickly to.
Feel a bit for Jackson given it’s his first managerial job. Would be hard for Guardiola to get much out of this lot

Not remotely bothered about the pizza cup, and wouldn't have been going to Wembley even if we'd got there. The concern is how poorly we played tonight. If Hartlepool had had their shooting boots on we would have got slaughtered. The defence were all over the place, Watson wasn't so much running through treacle as wet concrete, miscommunication and lack of concentration/nous was rife across the midfield and wings and WTF Chuks thought he was doing with that "Hand of God" impression I do not know. There were occasional bright moments, such as Burstow's quick reflexes to head the rebound from his original shot in, but I lost count of the number of times we'd string a few nice passes together but a poor touch or misplaced pass would mean we were suddenly being counterattacked at speed, and players were out of position or just didn't have the legs to deal with the threat. If we play like that against Pompey on Monday, the curse of Sky is going to be back with a vengeance.
Just to make my point have some reason. Firstly, did Jacko play his first choice side, no. Two of the starting eleven haven't played in weeks. I counted at least six players including the subs who will not be in a Charlton shirt next season. Lastly if Charlton manage to win at Portsmouth and at home to Wimbledon there will a quick retraction of all that's negative on here. P.S winning both those games is a big ask but football is like that and I put more store on those games than this one.
Another low, hate this competition but a Wembley trip would've been nice. Our squad is on par with the Powell and Slade sides which finished mid table in L1

I hope some Statto can take the time to actually work out exactly how many games it is that we have won when we concede first.
I reckon its once in 50 now.
