A cup is a cup. Any trophy is worth winning at Wembley. You sound like any Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea fan claiming the League Cup is pointless, yet as soon as they get to Wembley in the final its all hands on deck! Perspective is needed. This is our level for now and a cup we have a chance of winning.
They deserved it more. We were well under par and they outplayed us for much of the game. Missed opportunity. Feel for the frozen travelling addicks who deserved better.

Formation needs changing asap. Pointless fitting a formation to a squad that doesn’t have the players. Half the team being played out of position again
Good footballers should be able to play any formation, and any position to a certain degree.
Very poor all round. So many players looked like they had never played together before. Our passing is atrocious. Matthews, Famewo, Lee.....cant wait to see the back of them, poor is an understatement.
Signing the likes of Matthews Gunter, Leko, CBT, Soare, Lee and DJ, shows how poor our recruitment is and why we are still underperforming in the bottom half of League 1. We dont have the players to play the system that Jacko wants to play, so why isnt he playing to what strength we have? I like Jacko, but cant see him earning a new contract at this rate.

Can formation really be the problem... We said it was when Bowyer played the diamond, then it was the problem when Adkins played 4-2-3-1, now it's the problem again with JJ and 3-5-2? These players can't play any formation, basically.

F**k the penalties and F**k the Papa John's Cup, this club is up to it's neck in it and, imo, the shake-up that was needed when Adkins was still here, still needs to happen. All we do is live from one transfer window to another, waiting for the 6,7,8,,,,,11? signings we actually need to be able move forward. Well, I can't see anything near that happening any time soon, sorry.

Not strictly true, if you're going to play 352 then probably the 2 most crucial positions in that formation are the 2 wingbacks.
Sadly we do not have anyone close to being good enough, to the point we're trying to shoehorn wingers who before us had probably never played that role in their careers.
Hopefully Castillo can solve one side, but DJ/Matthews/Leko/whoever are not even close to being the answer on the other side.
We should have had a bigger clear out last summer. Definitely need to this summer! Awful just awful. Have we learned anything. Seems like we are going to sign more injury prone players! Disillusioned!!!!
Appalling performance from the lot of them tonight. Someone should have told Lee to sit back down when he put his hand up for the pen, he hasnt hit a ball cleanly for weeks infact I was surprised it even reached the goal as I was expecting him to scuff it much more than he did.
JJ needs to be a bit more flexible to change formation when it isnt working otherwise he will be off at the end of the season as we are in for a bumpy ride if we stay so predictable
Like many others i can't say I've watched any of the Papa John's matches because I find the competition a bit of an irrelevance to be honest.
However for me its more about the principle that this lot could at least have salvaged something from this season with a day at Wembley. Not one fan would pick the final of this trophy over promotion, but when promotion looks so far off a trip out at Wembley would have gone a little towards making the season a little bit more bearable at least. And who knows a trophy win might have helped us kick on either this season or at least would have been a good platform going into next season.
How many times do you hear the word football intelligence mentioned nowadays? We have a team who are literally the opposite of it. Nobody ever seems to make intelligent runs, nobody ever seems to make intelligent passes, nobody ever seems to take intelligent set pieces. Watching us tonight there's so many times when players just seem to be hoping another player will step up and do something, except we haven't got the kind of players who have that magical moment in them that can change a game.
I know others may disagree but I genuinely don't think its a lack of effort, in some ways I wish I thought it was because at least then I could just moan about them all and hope to see the back of them. I just think we have a lot of what I would call squad players, players who might be good to have in and around the first team now and then but not starting every week.
Who do we genuinely have whose name is guaranteed to be on the team sheet every week and who would get in the league's current top 6 squads? I can't think of anyone.
we have sunk to such a level of shiteness that we are all genuinely disappointed we’ve flopped out of what is widely seen as a laughing stock of a competition. One that the team 17th in League 2 rested players in.
Would've been nice to get to Wembley, but i think most of us are more pissed off with the performance than going out of the pizza cup.

Realistically we need to sign 2 wingbacks, a centre back (Inniss won't last a season, Pearce not good enough), a DM as cover for Dobson, 2 attacking midfielders (1 to play, 1 as backup) and perhaps even another striker.
Agreed. It's not as the 2-2 draw flattered Hartlepool either, they should have won in normal time.
You do have to question the coaching as well as the players. For all the question marks about some of our squad, it's still full of players who ought to be a LOT better than Hartlepool, an average L2 side. Yes they clearly raised their game for the match, but we didn't look like a team with a plan on how to play.
Still can't understand how we play a system with 3 centre backs and 3 centre mids and still get overrun, 2nd to the ball and can't keep possession surly should be compact and have numbers to win retain possession.
That's the biggest downfall is that we are so poor in giving the ball away then we drop off and concede shots.
Hartlepool deserved that, 20+ attempts absolutely outrageous, ultimately it comes down to our decision making and having that tactical awareness which we lack in abundance at the moment trying too hard individually to force it rather then play it simple and do the basics well.
I do question if we should set up different especially for away games and focus on a more counter attacking approach.

Can’t believe the direction us & them have taken since we beat them at the Valley in Nov. We seem to get out played by everyone we play against and they are now just two places outside the playoffs.

Trouble with a major clear out (again) in the summer is whether people still trust Gallen and co with our recruitment. He has bought so many of these players to the club. Appreciate he has had a tough time of it with RD/ESI etc and also that he made some great loan signings such as Cullen, Bielik, Gallagher. But his successes are getting further and further away.

Months ago he said this squad was shit and i argued with him and said a lot of our summer signings weren't actually that bad. He was spot on, i was wrong. We need another squad overhaul in the summer.
Credit to Hartlepool but we were very poor tonight. Aneke getting booked again is just bonkers. Feel a bit sorry for Lee because he will get it in spades but once again our defence was pitiful.
Lee had his chant sang afterwards, not everyone but loud enough for him to hear it.
I think he's a luxury player at best but he's not our biggest problem. We have bad players all over playing in a formation they're not comfortable with. They probably all grew up playing 442 so f'n try something they know and understand.

The biggest proof a what a fuckup this season is, is the fact the player most missed tonight was bombed out at the start of the season, to then become by a country mile the best performer for us.if Dobson didn’t play another game all season he’d still get player of the year!!.
