who'd'a thought that Crawley would turn out to be the new Boycott ? well done Zak, the penny might have dropped that in 5 day games there is no need to hit every ball outta sight from the off

Remember watching an interview with Boycott years ago and he said he batted in 10's. His first target was 10 and he didn't care if it took 2 balls or 30 balls to get there.
When reached he would reset and his next target was 20 and so on. As long as he kept his wicket he didn't give a monkeys how long it took.

Crawley did well to survive that long but he earned the right to do so by the way he played last night. In the end, he was beaten by one of those balls that has your name on it. It is something to build on and it is interesting that he has changed (and clearly been told to) to not go so hard at the ball early on.

Amazing isn't it. We asked the bowlers to bowl at the stumps and bowled them out for 151. The batsmen have batted like Test batsmen and we're 219-5. We are now reaping the benefit of having half the wickets left instead of being all out by 62 overs.

288-5 amassed before the 2nd new ball now taken. We have rarely had the opportunity to take full advantage of an old ball in recent years, because we've recklessly been all out way too early.
Maharaj and Harmer at OT second innings will be close to unplayable for anyone in our side not named Joe Root. I dare say England's challenge is to ensure it doesn't get to a second innings. Which sounds preposterous given how the first Test went
This is where Bazball should come into play. We have a solid lead, 2 set batsmen against 2 spinners not performing a 3 tired quicks. We should use this evening session to really put their bowlers to the sword and bring up a big lead.

We all ready have a big lead. Just keep batting and demoralise them.

As far as I'm concerned that's should be an opening batsman's first target.

Need to cling on and scramble to 250 if we can

He deserves that 50.
Now Stokes 88 and Foakes 51.
