Last seasons summer signings, including those who signed new contracts (with Done Deal dates).  Apologies for missing off Ben Watson, his was an extension clause triggered I think. Almost a year to the day since Stockley!

    Stockley 15th June
    McGillivray 28th June
    Dobson 1st July
    Forster-Caskey 5th July
    Famewo 8th July
    Matthews 8th July
    Clare 20th July
    Kirk 12th Aug
    Blackett-Taylor 20th Aug
    Lee 26th Aug
    Leko 31st Aug
    Arter 31st Aug
    Lavelle 31st Aug
    Souare 6th Sept
    Henderson 7th Sept
    Good information this.
It sums up why we should do our business earlier this year.

Five of our late signings last season were as you have posted

    Lee
    Leco
    Arter
    Souare
    Henderson.

That's the sort of players you are left with come the end of the window.
Let's not leave it that late this season.
And Matthews was a resigning after releasing him and JFC signed but we knew he would miss at least half the season 😂

it was a pathetic effort last year all round, and we spent a bit on fees with Lavelle, Kirk and Stockley

    Marquis and Bostock?
    Nesquik and Bournvita?

    I'd prefer, TBH.

  • Hope one of them is Tucker. Would be sign of intent I think.
Really not sure he if that’s great, and maybe not BG style.  I think too much hype around him!
  • Bill & Ben

Wanted by champ clubs though isnt he so if we got him it shows we have a certain pull still.

Think he is highly rated though.

    JR rules ok.
Let it be improvements on the escapees.
I've reached a point in my Charlton life where my Welmed can't be under.

Pretty much halfway through June without any signings. We can officially hit the panic button.

Imagine the reaction if our first signing is announced in July and it’s Elliot Lee.

Season starts on 30th July. PANIC , EVERYONE PANIC
And of course leaving transfer dealings to after the season has started really worked well for us last year.

Did you not learn anything from last year ?

No doubt we'll look to sign our full compliment of loan players, around 5.

Although the way the loan system works out, we're likely to have to wait for most of our loan signings until August/just before the window slams shut.

Same as every club at our level.

You know we DONT have to take up quota of 5 loans don't you. We could, heaven forbid, just sign players as per (on a free even) and have OUR players playing for us, rather than Chelsea's. That also means we wont be forever having to sign players on a yearly basis.

Why dont WE take the initiative rather than pandering to the "big" clubs and end up scrabbling around on deadline day.
But we are a League One club, Golfie. In theory(!) we try to get a couple of the 'stars of the future' from Prem clubs whose sideline business is to make money out of a 'loan production line'.

Alright, in plain English, the Cullens, Bieliks and Gallaghers ...... kids with Prem Cat One pedigree, who are now ready (hopefully) to gain valuable experience playing mens football. Right now we could never afford to buy this quality of player, so loans are our affordable route. It's always a gamble of course, because some of these are not really ready. We would hope they must be better than our own youngsters though, right?

And maybe Championship players who are available once their squads have been sorted. You know how it goes.

It's not just us, of course ..... every League One club tries to do the same thing. Many Championship clubs also.

There were rumours at the end of last season that Sandgaard didn’t want to pay big loan fees, hence why we ended up with Castillo  and Niles John. Maybe they weren’t good enough or not ready? Maybe Sandgaard didn’t see the point with promotion unrealistic? Who knows.

So if that’s true, we’re not going to end up with players at the level of Gallagher, Cullen or Bielik.
  • IF, a big IF of course we managed to get Naby and Tucker, surely that would mean Clare will be used in the middle of the park, as the back three would be Naby, Tucker and Lavelle?
  • Ben Thompson has joined Peterborough. Always rated him.
Good. We don't want another Ben.

We don't know though. Even if that's the plan now, the budget can change like season ...... but hopefully not that late!

Can't see us using a back three anyway

One of those players who makes a side difficult to play against.

Oh I don't know! That Ben Zema claimed to be an addicks fan back in the day. Not really a like for like replacement for our last Ben though, Mr Purrington, unless we can deploy him as flying left wing back. However, at 34 his legs might have gone a bit. Its a shame really, probably not going to happen this season.

Or right back in a back 4.
