We don't know if the wages are basic or if they include bonuses.

We don't even know if the figure is accurate.

But we're getting into "have you stopped beating you wife?" territory.

    "High" wage = wasting money
"Low" wage = doing it on the cheap.

Appoint a manager in days = rushed into it

Appoint a manager in five weeks = faffed about/season is already wasted.

They are plenty of valid reasons to question TS (such as MS and his role, his managerial appointments, his over promising,  his rush to make things happen ie pushing fill the Valley too hard after the initial success) but some are looking to see a negative in every action or if no action then to see a negative in that same lack of action.

    Back to Garner.

IF IF IF (WIOTOS) what the Swindon journalist says is true then I'm pleased.

We have a manager who's been allowed to bring in his own staff (a criticism of the Adkins appointment).

We have a young but experienced coach wanting to progress his career with us (you could argue we had similar with JJ but he wasn't given time/wasn't good enough).

We have a manager who, we hope, sees eye to eye with the owner and buys into the "model" that we plan to use.

Will it work?   Possibly, if TS and MS don’t micro-manage BG, give him a large say in recruitment, fund said recruitment and give him time.

Will BG get all that?  I don't know but at least some of us will have something different to look forward to and some others something different to moan about.

Sandgaard made the point about the pathway/ progression not just in regards to youth coming through but coaches too.

If, if, if we get Garner and his team in I'd take that as TS having a wake up call in regards to what it takes to getting out of this league and moving forwards, just plugging a random coach in to current set up - ala Adkins - isn't as straight forward or easy as it sounds, hopefully, that mind set will stretch to recruitment, ie the manger/ coach having more if an input into who comes in.

Could be the start of that Charlton resurrection right here.
Do you want to be ridiculed for positivity you fool!!!!😂😂 if you’re going to put you’re head above the parapet maybe you should have said Thomas is a good for nothing, bravado loving prick!!.😜😂
    zzzzzzzzz
Have a Horlicks and a good night sleep, you’ll be ok in the morning.
I dare you to say something new or interesting.

Asked for an update. This is what I got:

Garner finally agreed a deal and compo for him is sorted. However, not a done deal as he won't be coming without his own backroom staff. Talks regarding them are ongoing. Compo sticking point at the moment  If pushed In would say announcement likely Tues/Weds next week.
If you want him to be successful then you need to bring the support with him that’s helped him do that. Stop pissing about Sandgaard.
How do you know he’s pissing about?
It’s reasonable to assume that relevant personnel are away….. at both clubs as well as agents, accountants and their respective legal representatives etc. There are three new additions to our payroll being selected here not just Garner. Have you not thought it may well be others who are pissing about or playing hard ball or just not sure if they are up for it………..who knows?
Yes, things have been moving along via the internet but I expect some things are still best done face to face. There’s a lot of to-ing and fro-ing to be done.
Just peed off with people continually pulling the Sandgaard’s apart, especially when they don’t have all the low down and make wild assumptions to suit their glass half full agenda.😕
    Half empty?

  • A couple of observations about the reported £90k Garner is being offered a year by Charlton. Kind of throws into suspicion that any move for a target “more ambitious” than Beale seems, well slightly odd at best. Beale is not even number one at Villa and although he’s probably on one of the best packages around for number two I suspect anything “more ambitious” would attract significantly more than what’s being offered to Garner. I don’t doubt we’ve made contact with several “names” but I doubt it got very far. That’s not to say I’m disappointed if Garner is announced. I think he has something about his CV that might suit us very well. What I suspect is that we might well have fortuitously ended up with someone who was’nt high or even on our original list.
Beale was on 600k a year as a coach .. you got Blackpool manager giving up his job to take the position at Villa …. money … Blackpool bring in Simon Grayson how much they paying their managers ?
    Why should we care?
  • I don’t have a clue if this will be a good or bad appointment, what I will do is judge and support him if he does indeed become our new manager by his performance with us.he deserves our support so hopefully he comes and gets us promotion.

And I fear we may have to be a little patient. Rome wasn't built in a day etc.

I think if we have  satisfactory recruitment and Garner shows he has a plan then he should get that. I’ve said all along patience is required and let’s judge everyone once the season is underway.🤞
  • The same patience Jackson was given
  • Well Cawley is sticking to his story.

Just need Thomas to deny it to complete the loop.
  • I am not that persuaded by the notion of being patient, I want wins and points from the beginning, we have been a work in progress for too long.

Tend to agree here. No more excuses. We can’t keep rebuilding every summer.

Jackson had his chance, did you watch any of the games after his first 7 in charge?

That’s down to the new incumbent and the most importantly the owner. 14 managers in 16 years is no case of a stable football club from current and past owners

It’s more that our last three managers started really well. If this is a more radical shape up, it might be harder to do that.

Charlton and England.  Starting to wonder whose doorstep i shat on in a previous life to end up with these 2……
Weren’t we runners up in the last World Cup? Punching above our weight really.

We haven't really rebuilt any summer for a decade.  Even in 18/19 we didn't sign many players just almost all of them were very good and exactly what we needed.

Euros.  We got crunched by the giants of Croatia in the last WC and lost twice to Belgium if I remember correctly.  Agree though, punching above our weight and/or flattering to deceive since 66.

It goes hand in hand, if the manager and team do well, the manager keeps his job and the heat is in turn taken off the owner, until people want to find something else wrong.

Don’t know yet, it hasn’t happened, eventually there will be . Do you want to ask any more shite questions to put someone in there place?
  • As it seems we are now only waiting for confirmation to appear on the official site, perhaps it's time to reflect that this thread may soon be confined to the anal's.

It's been an emotional rollercoaster fellow Lifer's, with several protracted heated debates and deviations off thread.

After 225 pages and counting, I felt it only right to say a few words. I'm sure I speak for all in saying that I shall mourn it's passing as it will leave a big hole. 🤧
