I don’t have a clue if this will be a good or bad appointment, what I will do is judge and support him if he does indeed become our new manager by his performance with us.he deserves our support so hopefully he comes and gets us promotion.
And I fear we may have to be a little patient. Rome wasn't built in a day etc.
I think if we have satisfactory recruitment and Garner shows he has a plan then he should get that. I’ve said all along patience is required and let’s judge everyone once the season is underway.🤞
That’s down to the new incumbent and the most importantly the owner. 14 managers in 16 years is no case of a stable football club from current and past owners
It goes hand in hand, if the manager and team do well, the manager keeps his job and the heat is in turn taken off the owner, until people want to find something else wrong.
Who are these people who want to find something else wrong?
Don’t know yet, it hasn’t happened, eventually there will be . Do you want to ask any more shite questions to put someone in there place?
I will ask as many questions as I like until I’m kicked off this forum
As it seems we are now only waiting for confirmation to appear on the official site, perhaps it's time to reflect that this thread may soon be confined to the anal's.
It's been an emotional rollercoaster fellow Lifer's, with several protracted heated debates and deviations off thread.
After 225 pages and counting, I felt it only right to say a few words. I'm sure I speak for all in saying that I shall mourn it's passing as it will leave a big hole. 🤧
Oh come on!! Anal and big hole in the same post, you know Kenneth Williams is popping up some time soon!!😂🤣
Charlton and England. Starting to wonder whose doorstep i shat on in a previous life to end up with these 2……
Weren’t we runners up in the last World Cup? Punching above our weight really.
Euros. We got crunched by the giants of Croatia in the last WC and lost twice to Belgium if I remember correctly. Agree though, punching above our weight and/or flattering to deceive since 66.

Safe to say THomas couldn’t confirm it last week because it wasn’t confirmed - so he’s not a liar he’s just dealing with what was accurate at the time.
time will tell soon enough if it’s the right appointment but hopefully a new coaching setup as well as those already there - will give us more of a sense of identity. I look forward to it if it’s true.
A couple of weeks ago I had a long chat with one of the senior employees at Charlton. He said the following
”Thomas doesn’t get involved in the day to day squad stuff, and doesn’t choose the transfers and leaves that to others more qualified. He just signs the cheques Are things perfect? - No they aren’t. Have mistakes been made? - yes they have but we are definitely going in the right direction. This is as stable as the club has been at any time in the last five years”
There were plenty of other things discussed but I felt it was quite important to point out that there is so much that happens, is said and is done that we don’t get to hear about. Even when it looks like there is nothing happening there is usually a shit load going on. Last season was crap - we all know that. But if we can get behind whoever the new manager turns out to be and support this team we might see it pay dividends. A toxic atmosphere helps no-one but the opposition
im excited for pre season, and excited to see us playing some entertaining football for the first time in a while but what I REALLY want to have is a more unified fan base getting behind the team and a team that understands the journey we want to go on.
Fingers crossed
as I’ve said many times, it’s never been easy being a Charlton fan but I’ll never stop being one

No one knows. Why are so many desperate to be outraged & negative? It's more a reflection on them than TS. Let's try & be sensible and see what happens. Reading the negativity is exhausting.

No. It doesn't matter at all in the grand scheme of things. He shouldn't be saying anything, to anyone about it. I he thought Swindon would just sit on it, for 10 days, he is naive a best.
Almost all of the criticism Thomas gets, fair or other wise, comes from what he says.

Ok, I'm going to look at this in a more hopeful optimistic manner. As someone alluded to above perhaps this is taking a long time because BG has insisted on some of the ways of operating as a club as he sees fit and correct, starting with getting his own team in. Maybe he is a persuasive guy who will get TS to change his ideas. Maybe, just maybe..........

We’ve had weeks of moaning and whinging but now it looks like we have a name. Not everyone is overwhelmed but that doesn’t make any damned difference to the reality. Let’s put any disappointment and reservations aside and just get behind Ben Garner and the club. Swisdoms post says it all really. We’re all Charlton fans so let’s give Ben Garner a fair crack. What’s the alternative?

And the rest from what he does, doesn’t do, was rumoured to have done and rumoured to have not done.
Cawley saying “done deal” is a journalist breaking a story based on a certain degree of finality to proceedings
Thomas saying “ it’s not done yet” is a businessman who knows it’s not done until the ink is dry.
Turns out both can be valid
The time difference between the initial Cawley announcement and (presumably) the actual unveiling this week was a long time though, far longer than you'd expect if 95% of the work had been done

Agreed but Thomas said to his "Charlton friends" on line that we were still interviewing after the story broke Swindon's end which Richard Cawley heard about from his west country journalist colleges so not surprising that there has been speculation.
Thomas Sandgaard should have said no comment while the process is ongoing but he likes to exchange comments with buttleJR and others who like to pass on what they hear.
No harm done and we await the news in a few days about Ben Garner from Thomas, and Scarfy is getting ready.

I’m more than happy with Ben Garner. Since he was first mentioned everything I’ve seen and read has been a positive. Just hope everyone gets behind him and gives him a fighting chance. Good news he is bringing in his two coaches, one big mistake with Adkins was not letting him bring Crosby in.
Wouldn’t surprise me if Chorley ended up at Wimbledon with Jacko. Read earlier they were looking for a head of football operations, basically a DoF. Putting two and two together.

Believe me. Thomas is trying his hardest to improve the club in every way..

Another positive with Ben Garner is that he’s going to have a very good handle on young league two players who he thinks can make the step up. I’m fairly sure most of our acquisitions are going to come from League one and two so knowing that intimately is going to be a big help. Completely the opposite of what either Beale or Warburton could bring. We are where we are and I’m more than happy that BG will know what he wants to do and who to bring in.

Potentially, and Blackburn are another option. Alan Nixon (I know...) said Blackburn are announcing their new DoF next week.
