Wouldn’t surprise me if Chorley ended up at Wimbledon with Jacko. Read earlier they were looking for a head of football operations, basically a DoF. Putting two and two together.
Chorley was at Wimbledon when they moved, and he went, not sure how well that will go down.
The one thing that slightly concerns me, when we're having to poach not just a manager, but also his 2 coaches, is that they've only been together for 1 year, indeed 10 months.
It's not a team which have worked together for years, with several seasons of success, maybe with more than one club.
So, how long we giving this bloke before the knives get sharpened?
My guess is the first pre-season friendly.
I think a lot will hinge on what happens next. If the perception is that we’ve done well in the transfer market then there could be a bit of a feelgood atmosphere going into the season. If the transfer activity is shit then TS will get the blame. If we’ve bought well and get off to a bad start then the manager will get flack.
Safe to say THomas couldn’t confirm it last week because it wasn’t confirmed - so he’s not a liar he’s just dealing with what was accurate at the time.
time will tell soon enough if it’s the right appointment but hopefully a new coaching setup as well as those already there - will give us more of a sense of identity. I look forward to it if it’s true.
A couple of weeks ago I had a long chat with one of the senior employees at Charlton. He said the following
”Thomas doesn’t get involved in the day to day squad stuff, and doesn’t choose the transfers and leaves that to others more qualified. He just signs the cheques Are things perfect? - No they aren’t. Have mistakes been made? - yes they have but we are definitely going in the right direction. This is as stable as the club has been at any time in the last five years”
There were plenty of other things discussed but I felt it was quite important to point out that there is so much that happens, is said and is done that we don’t get to hear about. Even when it looks like there is nothing happening there is usually a shit load going on. Last season was crap - we all know that. But if we can get behind whoever the new manager turns out to be and support this team we might see it pay dividends. A toxic atmosphere helps no-one but the opposition
im excited for pre season, and excited to see us playing some entertaining football for the first time in a while but what I REALLY want to have is a more unified fan base getting behind the team and a team that understands the journey we want to go on.
Fingers crossed
as I’ve said many times, it’s never been easy being a Charlton fan but I’ll never stop being one
I agree with most of your post but TS did dismiss Ben Garner. He was asked if the reports were true and he said no. So he has lost credibility here in my eyes

But the reports weren't true, at least not 100%.
He didn't dismiss Garner.
The deal wasn't, and still isn't, done.
He wasn't, quite rightly and refreshingly, talking up something that hadn't, as yet, happened.
A bit of naivety, ignorance regarding the reading of the salary. For me it was obvious what it meant. In excess of £180k salary means on an annual basis. That’s how salary is defined especially for a professional or white collar position. Some people have embarrassed themselves. And ‘in excess’ almost certainly means there are bonuses on top of that which is performance related. All this is a positive. The TS bashing has been reaching absurd levels on here and the quibbling and ignorance about the salary is typical. Give it a break for crying out loud. I’m all for constructive criticism but a lot is destructive criticism. Frankly it’s unhealthy. I don’t get it.
Thanks TS for saving our club and still being prepared to change things up when things aren’t working. Because that is what you’re doing. In hindsight you have made mistakes but who has a crystal ball. In my opinion the biggest of those was caving in to the fan pressure you received before appointing JJ as permanent manager. And there was tremendous fan pressure back then. I had my reservations and even Curbs said on Charlton TV that he saw no reason to change things. But, the fans had their way. Fair enough, but are we blaming ourselves now for the crap we were dished up week by week? No, of course not!!
I’m excited about the appointments now being made. I for one believe that TS does want success for Charlton. I also believe he’ll get there.
Weird how such boring football can lead to the most goals, shots, possession etc in the league.
Something I’ve learned is that a lot of fans don’t want effective football, they want blood & guts, get stuck in, ‘ave it football. They want drama and everything to be done at 100mph.
One fan really isn't impressed with the upcoming appointment
people like that make be laugh - probably hadn’t heard of Peeters, Luzon, Riga and every other tosser we’ve had over the last 10 years, but decides to pretend to jack it in when we appoint an up and coming English manager…no doubt he/she/them/it will be there first home game next season.
But if we can get behind whoever the new manager turns out to be and support this team we might see it pay dividends. A toxic atmosphere helps no-one but the opposition
Well I thought the atmosphere was good once JJ took over and we were flying it turned to shit , it’s not the fans fault and the fans won’t make us win games cos if it worked on that Leeds would never have ended up in the third tier and Pompey wouldn’t still be in this division
I just want us to win games and stop being so shit
At first I was disappointed and didn’t see the difference between Jackson and Garner. I saw it as if we didn’t come in for him, they would both be in League Two this coming season.
Since, I have, like many others, done a bit more research and along with the stats that we all know about, I’ve been impressed that he was able to implement his style of play so successfully with a group of players at that level, many of whom (McKirdy being one) hadn’t really done it before. Then when you look further, they lost players in January where they had been playing 3-5-2, they had to rebuild their attack and he decided to switch to a 4-3-3. Different systems, different players, same style that managed to get a team to gel in a way that missed out on getting to the final of the play-offs from a penalty shoot-out.
It would’ve been better if he had been appointed earlier. However, I think there are players lined up or pretty much signed ready to come in for pre-season, that means he should have a core group to work with throughout pre-season to get us playing a specific style. It means we will need to bring in 2 very comfortable centre backs and all 4 full-backs must be good going forward too. That’s certainly an area I think they’ll be focusing on quite a bit.
I also think that because of his style of play, we are likely to attract the better loans this coming season, but only if Sandgaard is willing to pay the fee involved. We all know how valuable loans are at this level when you get them right, we need to make the most of it and not go for cheap options. A quality loan is as good as any signing.
We all know that when we are behind the team we do better, look at that season under Bowyer, the atmosphere was amazing. What we have experienced since is a lot of frustration and personal frustration away from Charlton too. Lots of people are naturally more edgy than they would normally be and with that means we have to be more patient and understanding.
Mistakes have and will continue to happen but I hope that they are few and far between going forward. Recruitment now is so, so important because get that right and done in good time, we should be a side that pushes top 6 and then who knows. Get it wrong and I don’t want to think about it.
Huge summer ahead, and I think they know just how huge it really is.

Karel Fraeye has even got one!

He wasn't lying, he was being discreet.

Christ. She's a ray of sunshine... Almost every tweet is moaning about Charlton 😂
