Discuss
what managerial experience does he have
it’s a no from me
Coached at a very high level.
Was never a player I liked and I'd hate all "Michael Carrick's Charlton" bollocks but he was linked with other EFL jobs.1 -
Can’t remember which club but Carrick has been linked with some at our level.
Scott Brown new Fleetwood manager.0 -
Carrick was linked to Lincoln but they went for Mark Kennedy who was Bows assistant at Birmingham1

What does the number even mean?SELR_addicks said:
Ahh yes of course. Someone has definitely sat down and processed the data of pressing for every single League One and League Two club.matt88 said:

So Charlton fans will be happy to give Taylor 4 years to get Charlton promoted?BR7_addick said:
You think cos it took 4 years it’s a bad thing? I see it as a good thing, shows what a bit of faith and patience can do in the midst of modern day revolving door management.Covered End said:Re Matt Taylor -
Exeter are a lower L1/top L2 team.
The fact that it took Taylor 4 years to get Exeter promoted in 2nd place, isn't a massive plus for me.
The fact that he's probably a really nice bloke, isn't a massive plus for me, so was JJ.
The fact that he's not managed above L2 is a negative for me.
The fact that he switched from goalie to outfield at age 23, doesn't really clinch it for me that he's a wonderfully versatile manager/coach. To be blunt, it is not relevant.
I'm not unhappy if it's Taylor, but I know the likes of Warburton have the better CV.Also shows he improved as a manager with time in his first role.
Err, that is definitely not happening, in anyone's world.1 -
Covered End said:I doubt many of us thought Lennie Lawrence would be such a great success when he was appointed.
I'll be honest and say I wanted Gritt rather than Curbs.
I was well pleased when we appointed Pardew.
So I'll be honest and say I'd like Warburton, but other than that I really wouldn't like to call who would or wouldn't be a success.
Every single managerial appointment in football is an absolute hit and hope gamble. If not Manchester United, pre Klopp Liverpool and Arsenal wouldn't have relative falls from grace.
The hope is that you try and stack the odds in your favour with rationale thought. Adkins was a rationale appointment on paper. Fraeye was not.
Very difficult job to pick a manager.
I don't have a clue who would be good for us. Even joking aside Klopp and Guardiola may fail at Charlton because the gulf in talent between the players they work with and those in League 3 and associated different management required may as well make it a different sport.
Get a half decent manager in, fund them and back their approach is probably the best bet for any clubs. It's all a bit of punt now especially as most seem to change bosses every couple of seasons these days before they perhaps have any real time to establish themselves.

The stats are from Opta, and someone definitely will have sat down and processed it as nearly all clubs will pay companies like opta for data. It’s a massive part of the game now at all levelsSELR_addicks said:

You've cherry picked the best performance in 6 months though.soapboxsam said:Can some one explain how we won at Rotherham if the intensity dropped off late in the season when the miller men were desperate to win ?
I would love to see the stats on our games over the season by the Cafc analysts.
I agree we must've played in flip flops against Ipswich but we know there was issues by then over the uncertainty over contracts.0 -
Think I was first on this thread to mention Taylor. ITK.2

Chris Powell was employed when he was in a club role - He'd have been the last person where we'd have needed club permission to speak with him2

Wasn't the great Fraye managing a club in the Belgian 49th tier or something like that when he became the Interim One?1

I backed him at 16/1 after I asked BetVic to put him in the market a week ago and a few hours later they shortened him to 10/1. The move to 4/1 today is down to Cawley's piece.1 -
Slade was Cardiff manager in 15/16 but his role was changed to 'head of football' a month before he joined us.

I'd imagine Gilbey was pro vax because he was so ill from it. From memory, wasn't he ill before the vaccine roll out?addick1956 said:
Gilbey was very ill with Covid . Fraser caught it almost as soon as he arrived. He is still suffering the effects.BR7_addick said:
I hope this is true. Because it would explain a lot. And also give us a bit of hope that the agitators are gone and we can move forward.Billericaydickie said:I was told this information in late 2021, I was told not to keep it to myself which I did do.
But now I will share it on here.
I know someone who works for the club in the medical setup.
This person told me in December 2021, that the atmosphere in the dressing room at that time was awful, almost toxic.
Some of the first team squad were barely speaking to each other.
And Jackson had all but lost the changing room.
The reason behind this unrest was Covid..
Some senior players (I don’t know names or numbers) but certainly two, possibly more players were committed Anti Vaxers.
Other players felt unhappy to mix with anyone who refused to be vaccinated. This divided the squad and hence caused bad feeling.
Because of this, some players shunned the Christmas party.
I also understand that some people who did attend the Christmas party then tested positive for Covid days after attending the party.
Jackson being one of those.
This caused further bad feeling and unrest.
I don’t know any more, but I will speculate and say that this may well be part of the reason we had such a bad January, and then struggled for the remainder of the season.
I wonder if Gilbey was an anti vaxer .
Anti vaccination is stupid. When I was 6 I caught polio. I ended up in hospital where a new vaccination was just available. It was administered into my back in several places.
It seemed to work as I made a good recovery.
In the hospital room next to mine was a youngish man in an iron lung unit. I could see him through the window. He had been in the RAF from early in the war. There was no vaccination when he fell ill.
It is stupid to risk serous illness for the sake of vaccine protection .
I can easily see how devicive such an attitude would be in these circumstances.

Would be pleased with Taylor IF he is allowed to bring his own staff and set up the way he wants it.12
