Near Grimsby Rob, edge of the Lincs Wolds, about 4 miles from the mouth of the Humber .. I'll watch the documentary you posted later ..saw a similar one a while back .. how soon vegetation takes over, my garden is a good example .. the last things to crumble according to this docu are the massive dams .. anyway, enjoy it while you still can lol

Some of it is "Disney" mate, but the bit regarding nature reclaiming the planet, even after nuclear fall out has been leaked into the atmosphere, is quite interesting. Not too sure how accurate it all is though

    Much needed rain here yesterday
Gentle rain overnight down here in Cornwall. Apart from a couple of short spells of patchy mizzle, we've had virtually no measurable rain for several weeks.

Well it was still very Sunny Cornwall, until Golfie came down here on holiday.

It's cloudy here in Berkshire but I've hung my washing out anyway as the radio says no rain.

It's been odd weather this summer, as for a drought period it's not been as sunny as you'd expect.

South East Water has today announced a ban on hosepipes and sprinklers from 12th August.

    https://www.southeastwater.co.uk/about/updates/tubs

"The demand for water this summer has broken all previous records, including the Covid lockdown heatwave. We have been producing an additional 120 million litres of water a day to supply our customers, which is the equivalent of supplying a futher four towns the size of Maidstone or Eastbourne, daily.

"We are taking this step to ensure we have enough water for both essential use and to protect the environment. This will enable us to also reduce the amount of water we need to take from already stressed local water sources."

But they're not going to bring in the hosepipe ban for another week and half, so people can use their hosepipes and reduce water supplies even more. Well done.

Legally have to give required notice.

Driest July since 1876 I believe, compounded by the high recent temperatures driving unprecedented demand and a weather forecast that predicts more of the same through Aug and Sept. Perfect storm...

How long do people reckon it will be before Thames water call a hosepipe ban, 2 weeks?

Better get used to it. Global warming will mean more water shortages for all of us. Found out today that Frances nuclear stations are lowering production as the rivers to cool it are too warm. We really are screwed.

Drove past it on the way home yesterday, although by that time (5.30pm) there wasn't much to see apart from around 6-8 fire engines & police directing traffic

It's not the rivers being too warm that is the main problem. It's that they cannot discharge the used water if it puts the river above a certain temperature.

Solution to this problem: increase the temperature allowed - Typical shortcut solution.

In my opinion anything that influences policies against nuclear and in favour of renewable energy sources is a good thing.

I've said it before on CL that many of the nuclear reactors in France are an accident waiting to happen. Over half of them currently have corrosion and other maintenance issues: 'Et pour cause, plus de la moitié des 56 réacteurs nucléaires sont déjà à l'arrêt pour cause de maintenance ou de problèmes de corrosion'

Number of small fires around Bexley/Sidcup yesterday and that wasn’t even in the worst of the heat. This weekend is going to be tough work for emergency services.

It's called "climate change" now, not "Global Warming"..When the globe started getting colder not hotter then a name change was urgently required. And the winner was ~((((drumroll))) "climate change" and it was a stroke of PR genius. Noone can possibly argue that the world climate ~ changes (every minute of every day! Who knew?!!)

Back to commonsenseville. It's hot ...it's mid August!

    And life goes on...

Is this the hottest summer in decades? It's been ridiculously hot for a few weeks now here in China. The highest temperature has been 40 ℃ this whole week in my city....

    Talk about missing the point.

Its not just about temperature but also the longevity of it, how widespread it is and also rainfall.

Never before has the world seen a heatwave cover such a large part of the world at the same time. previous heatwaves have been localised within regions of countries. This one is covering entire continents. Previous times temperature records in the UK have been broken its been in one or 2 places. This time it happened in 30 different places (more than half of the measuring stations) and broken by multiple degrees. For this to go on for so long across such a large space and have no break of rain is unprecedented. As said scientists were predicting an event like this for 2050, we are getting it 28 years earlier than was predicted only 2 years ago.

We are now getting summers that were previously called once in 100 year events occurring almost every other year.
Yeah but..... It's just summer innit? Put on a string vest, crack open a beer and put a wet teatowel on your noggin

These are averaged minimums and maximums, usually from a number of cities.  There used to be a 'central England temperature' calculated in a similar way but the MetO stopped doing it because it is largely pointless.
