Think anyone slagging off Garner for this season has picked up all the wrong signals from the past 5 or so years.
When every single manager we try can't get a squad to play above mid-tier League One football. The problem is elsewhere.
Understand what your saying but that first half set up was so disjointed and open defensively I was starting to wonder how a team could be so badly coached.
Second half was better and we did look defensively at least less open. Lavelle was hopeless first half and Payne is not a wide man, did they even practice that formation as it looked like it was slung together 10 minutes before kick off.
Please Garner 4 fucking 4 fucking 2 and give us a chance of winning.
If egbo is going to play RB, I’d like to see Clare with Dobson and Fraser in the midfield. Clare would be, imo a kishishev type player!
CBT and JRS on the wings with stockley up front is the only way
This is precisely what hasn’t been working. Stockley at the 11th attempt got his first goal in open play, CBT offers very little final product at JRS looks like a 14 year old that’s been invited to play in a dad’s Sunday league game.
The quality just isn’t there, regardless of what permutation of team or formation
I never want to see us play 5 at the back / 3 centre backs again. Cost us the game having to suffer that again in the first half.
Steve Brown on commentary summed it up beautifully with "we keep conceding goals that we never score ourselves" and I agree.
It's beyond a joke now, every single week our opponents seem to consistently beat us to second balls and our defence always backs off. We seem to have to work for our goals but just give them away at the other end.
Didn't go....... an Didn't really care its the norm...
Been going 60 years...
We are sliding further into the world of nothing. I remember league games at Aldershot, Halifax, Southport, York, etc..... We could be going there again.....
First game I’ve seen this season where Garner is culpable for that first half. Why 3 centre halfs against a Robinson side that plays 4-2-3-1 and even they get out paced by the one. All League Two bog standard backs.
Oxford were shocking, the worst side Oxford team in many a season. Going 4-4-2 made a difference in the second half but it’s papering over the cracks.
We are a lower midtable team this season ending up around 13th - 18th and that is not acceptable.
For me I feel we're switching between 433 and 343 to wedge in certain players but with neither formation suiting.
Stockley has to play as our most senior striker and Captain. But lone forward doesn't suit in the 433. But. JRS as one of the more dynamic players able to make something happen has to play, and he's a winger.
343 gets Stockley some closer support with the wide players tucking in alongside and behind with width provided by the wing backs, but then JRS isn't as effective, nor do we have a particularly strong partner to go next to Dobson in a 2 which gets exposed a quite a bit with a lot of players quite far forward.....I've not been one for calling for good ol' 442 big man little man stuff, but, I do believe that if you don't have and can't get the players to play your formation/s then you have to play one that suits what you got. If 442 works then, well, play it.
I couldn’t find the updated squad thread, but we’re stuck with a lot of this lot for a long time. Not good for the future either. We’re not going to be any higher than mid table with this squad at the end of this season, so it’s going to mean another overhaul needed if we want to progress. There’s too many we’re going to need to get rid of, again, some of which aren’t like Watson and Gunter that we can just let go
Consistency has dogged Albie Morgan for his whole career. I'm not sure there's anyone that can get this fella to perform at a high level consistently. Many have tried. It just don't happen. I live in hope though.
Disappointing. Seasons been over for a good few weeks now. Another wasted year and every year we’re sliding into genuine third tier mediocrity. Miles and miles off.

It has been working in terms of creating chances, the problem is playing on his own doesn't suit Stockley and both CBT and JRS lack that bit of composure needed to convert the chances. So If you have a front three that can't score you are over reliant on your midfield and the only two I think you could get goals out of is Fraser and JFC. Maybe Payne but a big doubt about that. Playing Morgan and Dobson together and you are fcuked. You have to play Dobson as he is probably our best player so Morgan should be nowhere near the first team.
The defence isn't going to chip in with many by the looks of it so if we concede one we probably lose or draw as I predicted pre match. Garner has to find a way to play two up front. I know that isn't so easy as probably our next best threatening players are probably wingers. Is it all over.? No, we could keep within reach and address the issue in January and then go on a run. But I'm not sure Sandgaard understands the issues and he has the money, or does he? Oh, it probably is all over.
How is Joseph throwing Chin over in the box not a pen?
Wasn’t a pen. Looked like a blatant handball and penalty from our first shot of the game though but admittedly I didn’t have the best angle of that one.
From where I was sitting it looked like a blatant handball as well. I’d like to see a replay of that.
Well all you true and suffering Charlton Fans if our egotistical owner after todays shite performance cannot see we need a proper striker and a stronger defence, then it time to Fuck off, as this team will never leave this division ever !!!! the Manager no doubt at this rate must be regretting his involvement with our owner 👎👎

Based on the first half performance there is every chance of this team leaving this division.
Disappointing. Seasons been over for a good few weeks now. Another wasted year and every year we’re sliding into genuine third tier mediocrity. Miles and miles off.
Argh! That’s all we need, don’t tell me he’s off back to Chelsea 😉

Yep. It was. Hands in unnatural position. It happened goal side as he turned his back on the player shooting. Ref was unsighted on edge of box. VAR would have given it and also a red for their Browne for going in studs up and landing on Egbo's ankle....
Kirk did very well when he came on. The only player with any composure in the box. Also the only one who ever looks like creating for Stockley.
Our centre backs are a horror show and Lavelle the worst of the lot. He looks like another one who, if he was leaving, would be off to a Shrewsbury or a Stevenage. The other two aren't great either. Oxford's tall CB looked far more assured than anything we've got.
The players were trying to gee the crowd up and I kept thinking to myself, how about you give us a reason first? This crowd needs more than just 3 minutes of decent football, it needs to believe.
Overall another tripe experience at The Valley.
(And why are there always people sitting in your seats in the family stand? It's like a bloody free for all.)
A dismal first half, during which we were slow, turgid, struggled to string any passes together and conceded possession with monotonous regularity in the face of Oxford’s press. Our players lacked any sort of energy and purpose and very few of them seemed to know what their role was in the latest tactical formation. A team totally bereft of confidence and belief.
More poor defending for Oxford’s goal, with Inniss failing to come out to challenge Browne and then turning his back on the shot. Heads seemed to go down and the atmosphere was as flat as I can recall at The Valley for some time. We failed to register a single shot at goal and if the Oxford player had taken a very presentable chance on the break just before half time, it would have been game over.
The second half was better with the change of shape and the substitutions, although it could hardly have been worse. We finally managed to attack Oxford down the flanks and get some crosses into the box. Either team could have won it in the end but I think that the chance which they squandered was far more clear cut than Dobbo’s.
I thought a point apiece was about right in the end and, after that atrocious first half, I was, quite frankly, relieved to take something from the game.
Garner has undoubtedly been sold short and we must be the only team in this division who have one fit senior striker and a promising 18 year old as their only options up top. Be that as it may, the tactical approach is not working and the brutal reality is that this team is getting worse week by week, rather than better. A manager’s job is to get the best out of the players available to him and a more pragmatic, mix and match approach is going to be required to grind out some results before we find ourselves totally rooted in the lower half of the table. One clean sheet and two wins in 11 games tells its own sorry story.
The only players to emerge with any real credit were Fraser, Egbo and Leaburn, although you could see how the goal lifted Stockley’s game. We all hope for better but mid-table mediocrity is, sadly, a realistic prognosis for another forgettable season.
Closest effort first half was my dad’s attempt at the crossbar challenge!
I’ll be honest I thought “fuck off let your son take it” (was it you? ) and it was a great attempt and he got a round of applause from me , deffo the highlight of the day , especially with some of the real shit attempts we’ve seen in the last year . thanks dad 👍

Scraping 1-1 draws in an empty Valley against mid table league one opposition is going to become the norm for us in the coming years unfortunately.
Garner and a young @Henry Irving ??

I shall wake up sober in the morning and still think we are shit.
Bottom line is that we are shit.

Just maybe not in the direction you would hope!

Our only hope is that the dopey Dane and his American tart sell up and fuck off back to Denver with his fucking guitar.
A shame we have had w****** owning us for too long.
