No leadership on the pitch is a major problem. After the pen was scored they all trudged back, head down. I was yelling at Stockley or O’Connell to galvanise them. And to make matters worse Garner then takes about 7 minutes to make some subs. No urgency at all.
That was exceptionally poor from us but give credit to MK Dons. They came to do a job. They pressed, marked, worked hard, packed the defence and gave us no space.
We didn't look like scoring, we didn't get a corner until the last 15 minutes. We usually get a draw out of these games but not tonight.
We are now ten points behind target. All the gain from Shrewsbury lost, and the situation even worse, and now no Innes for Saturday. Milton Keynes deserved their win despite the poxy penalty decision. Poor referee. Only Fraser and Campbell come out with any credit, poor all over the pitch. Very disappointed indeed, especially as I got my Stevenage ticket before the game, and we are very likely going to lose that cup tie.
Why anyone would clap Innis off is beyond me. Get rid of him ffs, gave the ball away twice under no pressure whatsoever and then rightly gets sent off.
I don’t know if you’ve played to a decent standard of football before, but both were professional fouls. The latter was outside of the box and wasn’t a penalty, but if I’m playing with Innis, he hasn’t done wrong at either scenario.
Kirk and Stockley upfront offer nothing. Why not give Kanu a chance.
Ref was decent most of the game but having seen the pictures he got the penalty wrong and the free kick for the second was soft. That said, managers moaning at refs is a pet hate of mine and listening to Terry and Ben whinge away in that interview above is painful.
We are an average L1 team and that is where we sit.
Clare is not a LB and should not be tried again.
The Directors box was full again. Please let a prospective owner turn up asap.
Why are we not playing Clare at full back rather than Egbo - who did not cross the ball at all tonight - he got in some good positions but always passed the ball backwards- when he did try to go forward with the ball he lost it - one which led to the penalty - Clare is far better fall back and can put some good crosses in as well. Clare is not a left back.
Why the heck did Garner play Clare at left back??? Utter total disaster, he knows this!!! Our last three games we've won with pace and rhythm in the team, everything Clare did took all the pace and rhythm out of every forward move he was involved in pretty much. It's not Clare's fault, you have to lay that one squarely at Garners feet. He should at least made the change there at half time or even before it was so obvious for everyone to see including MK Don's!!! Put the non penalty and free kick aside we did not deserve anything out of that woeful performance tonight. Stockley and Kirk offered nothing in attack. What a horrible match to watch.
Yes the penalty was probably incorrect, but it wasn't the first time where MKD looked really dangerous on the break, and left our defence really stretched and our centre backs a bit slow. MKD pressed us really well, whereas our press was ineffective. None of Kirk, Stockley or JRS were able to press their defence effectively, and when you press them, they make mistakes and give away chances, as anyone who watches the EFL highlights will have noted.
Of course what we really lacked was a pressing forward like Washington, though as a wildcard I did suggest before the game Morgan in one of those front positions, with the sole job of harrying their defenders and hoping they'd give up possession in dangerous areas. As it was, Stockley was completely ineffective, too slow to press or get onto the rare crosses that came in - he got outpaced by the 38 year old Lewington in the first 10 minutes - and barely winning anything in the air.
Inniss had a shocking second half, 2 awful passes could have cost us goals, while Clare was so frustrating at LB, killing so many of our attacks, and defensively made one big error too. O'Connell is a good player, but his lack of pace did show this evening, and explains why he's never really played much above L1.
A final moan, why do we insist on playing attacking players on the wrong side? Why not swap over for 10 minutes, and have the right footed Kirk on the right, and the left footed Payne on the left, to give the defence a different challenge.
Stockley a waste of a shirt tonight. I don't get the point of even playing him. We don't cross the ball, he doesn't drop off and link play, he's not mobile enough to press effectively... So what's the point? What role is he supposed to be performing for us? You might as well put someone up there who could at least chase defenders down.
Clare played it way too safe. There was a pass on down that left umpteen times and instead he turned back and chose the easy ball. Poor defending as well.
I think that was the first time I've ever left a game early. Not even the worst performance I've seen, just feels like we're still going nowhere in this shite league.
I am frankly astonished anyone is criticising Innis. It is absurd and pathetic. It wasn't a foul let alone a penalty. Some people on here are brainless and have players they hate for hate sake.
Typical Charlton performance against a out of form, no confidence opposition. Forget the 2nd half and look at a flat first half from a team that should have been at it from the first whistle. Whatever Garner said went in one ear and out of their arseholes (Bar young Campbell). Where was the press and hard work we saw against Portsmouth. Tip tappy crap and no roll the sleeves up and get stuck in.
Yes it’s not a penalty but it’s a 2nd yellow for Inniss. Ok it’s not a free kick for the 2nd and we should have had a penalty after that but you put in their effort to make sure that is irrelevant. That first half was not acceptable
highlight was seeing a 38 year old lewington outpace stockley after a ball from young Campbell, I knew he was slow, but not this slow. Would rather give kanu a game, may not be ready but at least he is mobile and will make runs
Tons of possession, literally hundreds of passes, but 99% of both across the back and, sometimes, the middle. No drive at all, no desire to get forward. I really like Sean Clare, but he can’t play on the left and tonight should be the last time it happens.
Fraser worked his socks off, Campbell tried hard, but the rest were appalling including Payne & Morgan when they came on. A small mitigating factor for the forwards in that we just kept dicking around with the ball at the back & didn’t give it to them, but they were very poor when it did reach them.
Anyone who has supported us for any length of time knows that this is what we do. If you’re on a shit run, without a win, just pop along to The Valley and have 3 points on us. Shocking performance.
And back to reality. Garner needs to share a fair bit of the blame tonight. Clear that Clare can’t play left back, he’s played Clayden and Chin there against better teams than mk. Innis can’t be relied upon. Kirk isn’t a 10. Camp bell’s clearly not ready. We haven’t created more than about half a dozen chances all season for Stockley who is our only striker. Should have stayed at home instead of a 200 mile round trip.
We got exactly what we deserved - nothing. They didn't look good, but they did what they needed to and took their chances when they came. They were very disciplined about having two lines stretched across the pitch. We played into their hands because we were so pedestrian that we gave their midfield time to crowd out whoever was on the ball. No one could find any space. It seems to me that there were two possibilities for breaking MK Dons down. We could cary on with the passing game, but do it faster and better so that they couldn't keep up. Sadly, that was beyond us. The other possibility, given that their two lines played quite close and pushed up the pitch, would be to loop balls over the top for a nippy forward to run on to. The problem with that strategy is that we don't have a nippy forward. We had one last season Washington, we let him go and we didn't replace him. Without a Washington in the team we had no alternative.
The other thing that was particularly bad was our crossing. People are moaning about Stockley, and they are right because he created nothing, but boy oh boy, it would be so much easier for him to do something if just once in a while we put a decent cross in at head height.
Well is there a single Charlton fan anywhere in the world who is surprised by that result?
But whilst the result was disappointing, even more disappointing was our performance. Absolutely hopeless with just no bite up front at all.
A few random thoughts:-
1) I know Sessegnon is an exception to what I am going to say, but why the hell do we keep playing right footed players at left back? Clare was awful there tonight and he should never be asked to play there again.
2) I'm not going to blame Inniss for the penalty - it was clearly outside the box - but if we are going to play a passing out game from the back he is totally unsuited for it. Every game he plays a couple of misplaced passes that put us in trouble. And his disciplinary record is awful.
3) If Rak-Sakyi was our player, we would be screaming for him to be given a rest. He's got great potential no doubt but he's contributed next to nothing this last 2 games. Surely his loan deal doesn't require him to start every match? If not, put him on the subs bench for a game or two.
Following Charlton is so frustrating. Just when you think we've cracked it, they put on a performance like that. But this being Charlton, I woudn't rule out a win on Saturday!
Not in the previous two he didn't. Probably why we won lol. There's a chance that red card will be overturned. We've all been purring about how our defence is settled and looking solid, so surprised BG rested Sess. Guess he must have needed it, but it didn't help. we would be screaming for him to be given a rest. I wouldn't be, unless he's knackered. Our only threat tonight. Following Charlton is so frustrating. Yes :-{ But this being Charlton, I wouldn't rule out a win on Saturday! With Sess and CBT you never know.
I've got sympathy for Ryan Inniss, I thought it was good defending and how the referee firstly even blew for a foul but then gave the penalty and sent Inniss off, I won't say I'm astounded as the level of referee in this division is appalling but he can feel hard done by and so can we. The red v Wimbledon last season, thats all on him and a stupid decision I thought had ended his Charlton career.
The game was a stinker, franchise shithouse FC came for a point, put 10 players behind the ball and challenged us to break them down and we weren't able to. In games like that you need to get an early goal and if we had I think we get 3 or 4 but we reverted to our brainless use of the ball in the final third in a truly grim first half and second half while we started ok-ish, I thought we lost our shape and fluidity.
I cant fully put into words to express how much I detest the franchise we played tonight and losing to them really upsets me
Innis has a bad temperament Clare isn't a left back Mcgrandles looks poor, Albie isn't up to it Stockley needs dropping because he can't press, or score, in this system
We needed a left back and forward in the transfer window.
I'm not a footballing genius but SURELY Garner has seen previously Clare can't play left back?!
Lets me fair about Inniss. His 2 yellows weren't because of his temperament, or because he had a reckless lunge. They both came from a MKD player running at the exposed defence, where a defender has to do something, and risks bringing them down and getting a yellow.
If anything the 2 terrible passes which nearly cost us goals were worse play.
The Inniss debate is pretty simple in my eyes. He costs us more points with his ‘red mist’ moments than he gains us with his good defending. An average of over 4 red cards across the course of a season is unacceptable. He’s a liability. Maybe it would be forgiven if he was exceptional every time he plays but he’d already tried to gift MK two goals with his horrific passing by time he got sent off.
And he’s never gonna stop with his stupid yellows and reds if every time he’s sent off he gets applauded down the tunnel.

I'm sure he has but he didn't really have much of a choice.
Although maybe considering how the first half was panning out, with MK sitting deep, it might have made sense to actually switch Fraser and Clare round so we could have utilised Fraser's left foot in all that space to get balls in the box and link up better with Campbell.
Not that anyone deserved it but Clare won the man of the match in the lounge , we have some clueless fans
first time I’ve been at a game and Gallen hasn’t been there, Sandgaard juniors usually glued to him .
saw Mark bright and Deano in there
that performance was as lame and timid as our support first half , just abysmal
haven’t seen a replay but first half the ref appeared to create our best opening by being in the way of MK Dons player that led to Campbell managing to miss the target from an easy chance .
no Cnut wants to whip a ball in from the outside , even Egbo who’s on his right side cuts back ffs
so many nothing, passenger like footballers , oh no I’m not gonna try a tough ball I’m gonna crab it over to you , to you ,to you, to you , to you , just fcuking pass it forward you gutless footballer
think wollacott should do better with the free kick that was a yard or so inside the post
Mk were there to be beat before realising how impotent we were and then deciding to have a go and still managing to hit the bar when a goal seemed easier . We got what we deserved and that nothing display got no points .
I feel sorry for those who got a freebie they must feel ripped off this morning . The rest of us we choose to pay to go through that so deserve it .

Harsh foul, harsh yellow, harsh pen, that's why he was clapped.
Looked a clear foul, clear yellow, perhaps on the pen, depends if the ref lets play carry on and Innis then fouls him in the box, too. That's two sendings off in a few games, both for two yellows. He needs to be smarter after the first yellow.
Not quite the same set-up yet as the "thirteen wins on the bounce, let's lose 0-1 with an own goal" situation v Swindon, but hosting the bottom team after some impressive performances has banana skin written all over it.
So fingers crossed for a professional job, no stupid bookings or sendings off, ...
So I'm going to be doing the lottery tonight for the first time ever.
