Why not this game on Friday? Or Bristol Rovers in a few weeks. Quite specific just for the Brighton game
There's some sort of understanding that some fans won't pay £25 for L1 football.
But if our "fans" won't pay £15 to see a top half premier league team above Chelsea in the league, why would anyone think we would have fans that would turn up and back -the team & owners?
I support Charlton and want them to be a PL team. I don't really care about watching Brighton in that position.
More proof why we'll struggle to ever make The Prem again.
Why? Because fans don’t want to pay to watch the opposition? How’s that relevant
Because too many don't want to pay to watch Charlton either.
Our ground's too big for us.
If an owner thinks that a crowd will come back in L1 they are wrong.  I will now go to Brighton but wasn't going to bother as I get no joy out of watching us get pumped by an unglamorous PL team.  If an owner gets us to the Championship the crowds will improve but still be miles from full. If they get us to the PL the crowds will return and grow every year we are there.  There are load of Palace shirts in my area and they have full houses most games but 10 years ago when we were last championship with them out crowds were clearly better.

There remains potential for large constant crowds but only after sustained success.
  • Something must be going on in the background for Peter Varney to come out with that.
Probably that bloke from Barclays again

    I'll bow out for tonight.
I'm disappointed how many fans we have on here who appear to not want to turn up & support the team.

Especially when Varney is effectively suggesting that new potential owners will be watching & we need to demonstrate we can still turn up in numbers.

I suppose it's not unexpected in truth.
I can understand both points of view mate especially with so many false dawns since 2014. I won’t be there but as you know it’s a bit of a trek for me however I’ll be at Morecambe which is more manageable 😉 COYAs.

I wouldn't expect anyone to travel long distances for a midweek game (apart from opposition fans  :)

Yea it's heartbreaking. This one game might not be a deal clincher rather part of a process. TS hasn't invested last summer and won't in January because he wants out. We need a takeover/investment to avoid League Two in the near future  - so get your arses down there!

I wasn't going to bother as night games difficult for me but now coming with eldest son. Will be good to return to the AC stand, have been Covered End Upper last few seasons after 25 years in East.

My take is more prosaic, and probably wrong.
What if PV in some way intimated to the reluctant and sceptical powers that be that we should open the Curbs/East stand for the Brighton game?
Now that’s happened he would like to show he was right.

I think it’s just as important that the players actually turn up…..how many times in the last few years have we been hyped up and the players all have a shocker

However - what if we can rekindle the spirit of Doncaster in the play-offs?  What a night that was!

or could it be a new investor is unveiled on the night..

we just don’t know at the moment but I’ll be buggered if I’m going to miss out 😀

    And so it begins...

    AGAIN!
  • I'll certainly be there, once Curbs tickets go on sale on Friday, and look forward to seeing our new Qatari owners!

I understand the apathy and the unwillingness to go to this game but as many have stated on here, Peter Varney is a supporter and for the first time in a long while something seems to be happening in a positive sense. Investors or buyers, to me it matters not, if investors came in to give not only much needed cash but a proper balanced Board of Directors then that's surely a positive. Yes our frustration is directed at TS but in the most that's because of his crass decision making alongside a string of crass statements. I would probably prefer a board of equal partners rather than a one man show and I'm forever hopeful that this period of sheer despair that this club has suffered since Curbs left will eventually come to an end.
  • I want to send my tickets back now it’s rent a crowd, hate it when it’s busy , too many twunts about (myself and family included)
Ah, that's the oohaah we all know & love !

If a buyer/investor is swayed by a crowd at a one off game - I’d be questioning their business acumen anyway.
Or see what ‘potential’ we have ?
  • Put this on the Sandgaard thread a couple of days ago🤞🤞

Just seen a twitter exchange with Peter Varney about an hour ago. Someone asked him if he was able to help shape the future, his response was 'that would be for other to decide!'. Cryptic comment or wishful thinking???

I suspect it’s not about facts, figures and balance sheets but a sense of the passion this club can generate that PV is hoping for.
The stuff you can’t see from a look through the accounts.
Spot on. Any potential purchaser will see the crowds against Cheltenham and Bristol Rovers for example and will know what he’s getting but against Brighton what he’ll hopefully see is what he could be getting on a regular basis if he can get the product on the pitch right. Maybe I’m reading this wrong but if a potential buyer is coming to the Brighton game you’d have thought talks, even if tentative ones, had already taken place. I can’t see PV stirring the pot otherwise.

Now if you suggested that of Airman Brown I’d be more inclined to agree 😀

Minor obstacle. We’ll get 15k back if we got to the Champ under a half decent owner. Then that would grow steadily if we became an established champ outfit

The reason that people are not going to recent L1 matches is simply that the footy is crap to watch.
It takes some effort to get a coach from (say) Hastings or various trains from Essex, only to be presented by dull tactics.
Get the ball to Rak, Sess, or CBT and get some crosses in. This passing it around our own half malarkey is turning folk away.
