Charlton travelled away to Derby this afternoon in search of a good performance and a result to move further up the table. Unfortunately, Derby had other plans, which seemed to include limiting our wide play by effectively stifling Rak-Sakyi and Blackett-Taylor. Michael Hector made his full debut and got off to a rocky start when he handled the ball in the box to give Derby a penalty on about seven minutes. Once Derby went 1-0 up, they were comfortable and we never looked much like troubling them.
We kept the game close well into the second half, without ever finding a footing going forward, but once Derby scored their second, we were never going to rebound. George Dobson made a characteristically good tackle, sliding in and knocking the ball into touch deceptively with his off foot. The referee bought the Derby player’s reaction, called a foul, and booked Dobbo. The resulting free kick was swung in and put away with a header to send Derby free and clear. A bit unfair, but we weren’t really in it against a composed and effective Derby. We’re just not at their level.

We might just be a mid table team after all
We need an excellent summer transfer window if we're gonna be able to perform at a similar level to teams like Derby next season. If we're reliant on Martin and his black box again then we've got no chance.
Comprehensively outplayed by a superior team so never really looked like coming away with anything from that game. We gave the ball away far too easily, were too often muscled off the ball and the quality of our passing and crossing was poor. Our wide players CBT and Rak-Sakyi were both way off form so we lacked any attacking threat. Hector gave away the penalty and then lost his player for their second goal. I felt a bit sorry for him as apart from this critical moments he did ok.
Yet again, Dobson, Ness and Clare were the only players in red that looked at the same level as the opposition. Too many of our players are bang average L1 standard, so no surprise that’s reflected in our league position.
Other than the keeper I don't think we had anyone of the required quality today.
Following the scores, I greeted both Derby goals with a shrug and an “Oh well”.
However, when palace scored I reacted with an “Oh for f**k sake” and when Brentford scored, I punched the air and went “Get in! Have that you stripy twats!”
I’m not happy about this. The fate of some spotty virgins down the road shouldn’t get more of a reaction than my own team, but there it is.
This club has broken me.
Derby played well, they moved the ball quickly and decisively, and defended and pressed exceptionally. They are a team full of championship quality players so it’s not hard to see why, and people should be looking at how good they are before looking at how poor we were.
And to that point. I don’t think we were terrible at all - but we were so bad in key moments particularly in the attacking third.
For all Derbys swift attacking play we essentially gifted them both their goals, and in reverse whenever we got the ball into a good position they had to do nothing special to defend it.
We really need to figure out how to use our CF more effectively, especially when JRS gets marked out the game. Leaburn might have more of the attributes to be in the game more in that position, but on the whole it’s going to be difficult for anyone if they are always so isolated.
It's down to both the Sangaards that we are so far away from a top six place. Its time Tommy and his family gave up and give us a chance to build for next season. If they stay in charge we are going nowhere! DH needs to be kept on and needs to be fully supported by an owner(s) prepared to back him and stop cost cutting.
Can't really add anything else.
Edit. Just to add, Curbs is saying ownership needs sorting, DH needs signing up. Brownie saying we have no plan with this ownership and Ducktape in the background!
No doubt both will be sacked tomorrow!
Further Edit
Scotty also saying the club needs stabilising off the pitch....I guess that means Charlton TV will now be shut down tomorrow morning!
The club from top to bottom is a complete mess.
Tough 3 games coming up. Don't think we will be dragged into a relegation scrap but will soon be in the bottom half looking at the likes of Port Vale above us.
Cant wait for the season to end & for the summer rebuild to start 😆😆😆😆
We have been a local London club competing with plenty of bigger clubs. I would be surprised if they didn't have a bigger attendance. When we were in the top league we were always punching above our weight. Lennie, curbs and even seed.
Oh and we have been shit for years as well with worse shit going on behind the scenes.
