It’s been the same the last few seasons with, though they still have not made the play offs.
Have to think eventually it will click though.
Yeah Pompey doing a load of business early seems to be a broken record every transfer window, yet here we are still playing them
Exact same thing was said about Ipswich last season. Now look at them.
Ipswich had by far the best squad in the league and were favourites for the title. Pompey is not quite the same standard and the players they are bringing in aren’t half as good as who Ipswich were signing
I think goal scoring is a knack. It’s almost a gift and at a certain level can’t be taught. Prolific youngsters are rarely as prolific as seniors but we’re lucky to have a couple who might be gold dust.
This is so true: A positive that Patrick Casey has signed after emulating Daniel Kanu from the season before with 40+ goals.
I didn't realize that Casey was only two months younger than Kanu and in the same academy school year having been born in February 2005 whereas Daniel was born in November 2004.
The challenge for the coaches/manager is how do you get the prolific scorers in youth Football into the first team squad and bringing that ability and confidence?
Patrick will initially play in the U21 and Daniel hopefully will get a chance of more game time with Miles Leaburn where they can reproduce the goal that Kanu made for Leaburn at the valley when he had a great first touch and crossed for the big man to finish. I would expect Miles to reciprocate and play the faster Kanu in behind.
No loan for Kanu, he should be getting game time in cameo roles where we play to his strengths in and around the box. I assume the new striker/forward (your guess is as good as mine) will start most games ?
Good luck to both Casey and Kanu this season in their progress.

My 12 year old grandson is attracting attention from club scouts, he finished last season on 27 goals and was voted player of the season across all nine teams that play in different age groups for the club. As you say it’s nothing that has been coached into him he just knows where the net is

No it was not Golfie and you need to stop peddling this fallacy.
Youve been told multiple times by different posters that we had signed more players then Ipswich in the early part of last season. You seemingly keep on ignoring this fact, and I don’t understand why.
There’s a thread on the Mandela effect and this feels like it could fit in there!

For Ipswich it came to fruition over two seasons after buying in bulk with the likes of Bonne, Pigott, Fraser ( the irony) who failed to make an impact but they suddenly got it right and the 4 nil thrashing of Cafc in that last game of 21/22 was an omen of the excellent season they had in 22/23 and a bigger thrashing for Cafc with 6 of the best and the gap between the two clubs was enormous.
The moral to this story is it will take at least two windows to correct the mistakes of the past.
Read a comment from John Mousinho speaking about how their plan is to not try and waste time on unrealistic targets that may only decide later on whether to drop to lg1. So I think they've gone for solid, attainable players but getting them in early. Looks like the fans are pretty split on the recruitment, but it's probably a sensible way of doing things.
It's an interesting one that. On the one hand it's sensible because we certainly made a mess of things a while ago going after players like Fraser and Jordan Graham when it was clear higher level or richer clubs were going to get them ahead of us, but equally it's not a million miles away from what we did last season. Players like Payne, O'Connell, McGrandles and Sessegnon were solid L1 experienced signings but lined up with our other inadequate players they didn't add enough to offset the averageness. It might be the same for Pompey; you look at their squad and there's only one or two players I'd be actively excited about getting. Colby Bishop, Ronan Curtis maybe. Other than that they tend to sign the sorts of players that we are either looking at or think we should be looking at, like Ogilive, Lowery and Morrell and it doesn't seem to do them much good either. Maybe they'll be great under Mousinho but it does feel a bit like an always the bridesmaid team. If they have a long term structure in place though then getting that base and adding in a few proper players on top in coming seasons could see them become a really good side.
Is it really that good? Or are people more impressed because they signed more than 1 player?
I doubt ours will be any better, a mixture of free signings and loans is all I can see heading our way
I think this will be our best window in years.
Why?
Dean Holden selecting the players he wants to recruit Leaburn staying New owners New money Most of the u18’s signing contracts, including Patrick Casey. I heard clubs were circling him and I could not be more chuffed that he has stayed with us for the next three years. 42 goals last season! No dickheads policy It just all seems so much more positive.
Other than we have been shafted for years, why are you feeling so negative? Are you hoping TS stays or happy he is going?

Not negative just cautious and wounded after the shit we have suffered for years and no, I don’t want TS to stay however…….
There is no proof Holden is selecting the players, just talk
Leaburn could be sold at any time
We don’t have new owners, they are still being investigated by the EFL
There is no evidence of “new money “ being injected into the club

Do not know to much about him, and I know football does not work this way, but looking at the seasons he has played substantially in League One he has either been relegated, flirted with relegation or been part of a team which has had one of the worst goals against records.

You would have written the same the last 3 summer transfer windows with TS either about to take charge or in charge

All it proves is that getting the right players (and manager) is far more important than when you get them or for what cost.
Are there advantages to getting things done earlier, yes there are. But it's not the be all and end all.

Cawley says we’re interested in Cambridge CB Lloyd Jones,
Yeah would expect him to be decent with his feet too.
