Just another uneventful day in the office for our bowlers. This season's opposition 1st innings scores in the CC (guess which game we won!)

    403-10
    530-7
    543-7
    92-10
    618-7
    554-10
    591-7
    599-9
    505-8
    447-10
    420-10
    403-10
    433-10

That's an average of 538 per first innings - assuming each innings had run its course without a declaration although based on the actual score it would be 476

By comparison, we've been bowled out in each and every 1st innings:

    284-10
    413-10
    244-10
    261-10
    407-10
    178-10
    394-10
    244-10
    343-10
    171-10
    156-10
    207-10
    225-10

    That's an average of 271

So, taking the actual scores, we've been, on average 205 runs behind after both teams have batted the once

Conclusion: we are awful with both bat and ball
  • 393-6 at the close. Kent have 2 bowling points.

I think it's generally accepted that, in the last 25 years or so, as a county, we have failed miserably to produce fast bowlers. In that time, Durham have succeeded in doing so with the likes of Kileen, Harmison, Plunkett, Onions, Stokes, Wood, Potts, Carse, Rushworth and Raine. Yesterday, two more from their production were on view against Surrey - 19 year old Daniel Hogg, James Minto, Durham's youngest ever First-Class cricketer at the age of 16, who did this to Rory Burns

  • 433 all out
  • Decent display this morning actually
  • When was the last time we got over 400 in the first innings? Can’t see us getting anywhere near that unfortunately

Agreed especially when one compares 196-0 to 237-10. That might not bode well for our batsmen.

11th May against Worcestershire to be precise which was in response to their score of 618-7
  • And so it starts AGAIN.

    5-1 Compton gone for 4.
  • Away from us, a great photo from the Warks Essex game

Really? What’s decent about it, predictably we’ve lost 2wkts already.

Taking 4 wickets for 30 runs is pretty decent. We've been terrible with the bat but you know my comment was before we started batting
  • We’ve made it to lunch 60/2 with DBD and Leaning looking pretty settled. Big scores needed from both

  • One to make @Leuth smile
Good effort from Warks so far....

I'd be smiling more if we weren't making Mo Abbas look world-class. Oh what's that? He is? Well, I wish we wouldn't make it so obvious

Not good for the 2 players of course, but Essex have massively benefited in having 2 brilliant county championship bowlers in Cook and Porter that England aren't interested in.
  • Surely Cook goes to NZ? Ideal place to debut him.
  • 80/3, DBD out for 28
  • Denly falls for 5, 89/4. Embarrassing
