Not sure Dobson, Bakinson and Coventry fit into a midfield 3. None of them are a 10 as far as I can see, maybe Bakinson? Maybe if Camara was fit, any 2 of the other 3 would work with him.
I think the midfielders who came from this league will give way to the ones who have come from leagues above, so Fraser, Mc Grandles and Taylor for the chop (if they are ever fit)

Yes naivety is the right word. When ou have the ball in situations he was in today you have to know what type of challenges will be coming in. They were quick in the challenge and strong and he didn't have an answer to it, but he is talented and hopefully it will come. I am not worried about releagtion. If results remain the same we will but I think they will pick up. I am more inteersted in seeing the foundations for a push next season starting at Burton.

Overall, I think there's foundation for a decent team when everyone's fit and we sign 2 or 3 more players, but I'd be seriously contemplating sending Campbell back and sending Tyreece out on loan after today, neither of them looked up to it at all, and in particular TC looked disinterested and downright lazy
I don't think it is being lazy. Physically he can be dominated and he hasn't discovered how to deal with it yet. He definitely needs a loan but remains a good prospect. He just isn't ready yet.

I think that’s harsh on TC. A loan might be good for him but he doesn’t look lazy to me. He does, however, look really low on confidence. Hard to rebuild that with the way team has generally been playing. Hopefully the new signings will breath some new life into the squad and we might see improvements in players like him and Edun who have had good and bad moments this season.

Chem has been a damp squib of a summer signing though (like most of them) and I’d agree he can probably go back, if we can get out of the deal.
See I just don't think confidence and being "dominated physically" stops you from running after the ball. Several times in the first half we lumped the ball forwards to the right wing, and every time May was the one chasing it into that corner, with TC a good 10-15 yards back, hiding behind the fullback. Tracking back, he was non-existent, with Watson being overwhelmed by their left hand side. Low on confidence for me is players choosing to pass when in a shooting position, or not gambling on a dribble and instead passing backwards, not failing to get out of a jog for 45 minutes

I feel like me giving Edun 9 for that in player marks might seem a bit silly, but for me he showed he wanted to run and work for us more than most have shown. Epitomised a spirit that can be built upon.

The new midfielders looked good too
9 for Edun is absolutefucking mental
No I agree, it is, so I've come here to sort of explain myself. I just saw a man who wanted to be everywhere and frequently was. More with that attitude and we can do things, go places
Effort doesn't warrant a 9 in player marks, that's the bare minimum we expect from any one who puts the shirt on. Celebrating someone for finally looking like they give a shit is crazy.

After all that he was still poor anyway.
  • Yes we're still shit but we were better today. 3-5-2 allows May to sing and Bakinson & Coventry massively improved us. Still skeptical but I'm curious to watch our next 2-3 games, not filled with the usual dread.

If I was an opposing manager I would tell my defender to be tight on him, be strong and to hurt him (let him know you are there and there is more where that come from). That is the way to play him at the moment and it affects his overall game. He can be strong but it doesn't come naturally to him and that is the part of his game he really needs to work on, preferably in a tough league like league 2 on loan.

We will need to get another 2 CB’s then, can’t rely on Thomas and Ness..

    We will miss Hector..
Can't lie, I thought Thomas* was our best defender today, would be more than comfortable with him as a bench option.

He's a proper professional, comes on the pitch and gets on with it.
  • I don't think Kanu is far off.
I like him and he is beginning t add a physical side to his game. But I think he sometimes tries to take an extra touch that he doesn’t have the time or space for.

We can go down. Lets get that straight now.

We can go down, and we will unless we turn things around pretty dramatically.

MA is a serious danger to this football club. If we dont take decisive action, this could be a total disaster unfolding between now and May.

    Coventry and Bakinson look ok.
    May is wasted at Charlton.

Dobson? A poor mans Josh Cullen (there I said it).

We need to make 3-4 top signings, get ride of MA, and keep CBT (£250k is worthless if we go down - rather not bank it and stay up thanks).
    This in spades.

£250k wont do us much good in League 2 next season.

However.......1 think that might keep us up is our GD. Currently a difference of 4 places (we could be 17th if our GD was really bad right now).

Next week away to Burton is a BIG game. Lose that & they move above us. There are also 4 matches with teams around/below us playing each other and we could easily drop 3 or 4 places and be just 4 points off the bottom 4.

Peterborough are flying atm, coming off the back of a brilliant 3-2 win at Derby.

I rarely predict losses but I did for this one because it was always going to be an uphill battle today. Perhaps the worst time to play them combined with the best time to play us.

And we still pushed them really hard in the second half.

We will win next weekend at Burton.

Yes, ideally he needs 30 minutes from the bench for a while. I think he is developing and playing him up front on his own with no support won't help him but I am seeing a player who could be a terrific asset to us next season and this season is an important part of that.

    Starting formation was so wrong

Both campbells were literally useless and felt sorry for Alfie

Bakinson looks very good and Thomas had his best game for us, Edun was better 2nd half but that says more about his 1st half

still baffling as to how L Watson doesn’t start

positive impressions from all the new boys

If we are to compete then we need

New keeper (or isted back in)
    Striker
    2 new full backs
a winger to replace the surely going CBT (don’t buy that he was injured)

Alfie must play up top with a n other - how much better did we look when Kanu came on

    433 / 343….all shit

442 please, even a diamond midfield, whatever…..but 2 up front!!!

Would normally agree up against a team like that, however our away form, our mentality away from the Valley needs to change drastically - Even more so than our mentality to keep a clean sheet.

We need a new keeper ASAP. We are woeful at the back despite some players having good individual games. Don’t think AMB instils any confidence in his defence and is constantly at fault.

Those things will change with Bakinson and Coventry in the middle. 👍

If we are replacing CBT, forget about a replacement winger and get the best wing backs in we can afford. Asiimwe is going to be an excellent one and it is a question for me when he will be ready.

Anyone notice the ref blew for full time just as Jones was trying to get his foot on that cross at the end? If he’d scored I don’t think it would have counted
Ref booked Watson straight after I think he was making that point.
  • Shocking first half - not a single positive from it.

Their No 10 Mason-Clark ran rings around our defence.

At least we made a game of it. We will obviously miss CBT.
  • Better second half but they deserved the win. Impressed with Coventry’s cameo reminds me of Scott Parker thought their 4 was class read the game really we’ll always composed and had time on the ball

Wasn't at fault today...try looking at the supposed defensive display...

'If I could have booed me I would have' is genuinely one of the most insane things I've heard a manager say in a post-match press conference. Please make it stop.
  • Thought Thomas had a great game today.

Just listened to MA post match interview, he’s acting like today was his first game cos he’s got a few signings through the door, complete lack of responsibility for the points dropped to Port Vale, Oxford, Bristol Rovers, Leyton Orient, Burton, Cambridge.

    Bakinson impressed me.
    As did Coventry.
I'm putting the 2nd half down to our new number 2 seeing that nonsense in the first half & demanding changes in the second.
Thought Bakinson should have been subbed about ten minutes before he was.

    In Curtis I trust.

It suits him in a three I think. Some people will mark him down whatever but if you are looking at performances, he was excellent.

What on earth did Maynard Brewer do wrong today?

No chance with either goal and made some super saves in between.

One game. Normally he's useless, sorry bit unfair, poor.
  • I think Apples has until the end of the season, judging from what Rodwell said the other evening.
