Peterborough are flying atm, coming off the back of a brilliant 3-2 win at Derby.
I rarely predict losses but I did for this one because it was always going to be an uphill battle today. Perhaps the worst time to play them combined with the best time to play us.
And we still pushed them really hard in the second half.
Get another in too, Hector and Thomas can go in the summer, then get another in the too. Gilkesphy, Ness, Jones, AN Other plus AN Other with Deji in the wings will be enough.
I am definitely going to look at our odds for Burton as I think we will win that one too. The result was a negative but there were a lot of positives today, IMO.
We need a new keeper ASAP. We are woeful at the back despite some players having good individual games. Don’t think AMB instils any confidence in his defence and is constantly at fault.
What on earth did Maynard Brewer do wrong today?
No chance with either goal and made some super saves in between.
It’s his overall ability that does me in. As I’ve already alluded to, I don’t think the players in front of him have confidence in him. His feet are glued to his line, he can’t kick. Makes the odd good save, granted but he’s no number one IMO
Better second half but they deserved the win. Impressed with Coventry’s cameo reminds me of Scott Parker thought their 4 was class read the game really we’ll always composed and had time on the ball
Peterborough are holding out for 10 million from Palace.
Every reason to feel hopeful for the future was displayed in the second half. Alfie May is still a hero. The Coventry fellow was very good as was Bakinson. First time in a long time I’ve been on the edge of my seat for a full 20 minutes watching Charlton. I thought before the game that that was going to be a three nil loss. Spoke to a Peterborough fan on the way out, and he said that was much tougher than they expected. Yes another game that we lose, but it didn’t feel like a loss.
Appleton again got the starting line up wrong. Most of us knew before a ball was kicked that Kanu had to start. After 20 minutes it was clear that Tyreece needed to come off ( not that anyone else would have started him anyway). The manager fails to learn and repeats the same mistakes week after week. Everyone back at corners and only one player comes out to defend a short corner. It’s so basic but still he doesn’t learn. Compare the two managers today. One was very animated the other barely moved. You can guess who is who. If Appleton stays it won’t matter what players we have it’ll be a waste.
Also, a thought about Tyreece Campbell: Yes, he had a bad game and was dominated by his markers. But I noticed, towards the end of the first half, the camera stayed on him for a bit and the way he was walking around reminded me of the teenagers I teach when they’re pissed off that they haven’t got their way. Huffing and puffing and stomping around pouting and sulking. He was frustrated, but he had no solution.
I think there’s potentially a very good player in there, but he needs help with his mentality. He needs time to mature, but I reckon he could use some help in a sports psychology sense. Learning how to cope with difficult games is essential and he needs to build resilience in this department.
He’s a massive frustration. He should take a good look at the attitude Kanu showed when he come on.
The new boys all showed promise but then this time last year some were calling Kilkenny the new Kinsella
Defence remains a huge concern, compounded by the Hector news. I don’t honestly think any of them fit the consistent category, let alone elite. Hector when on form probably the closest. I’ve not been at all convinced by Jones - he doesn’t close down / tackle / block in the box anywhere near enough - watch back the goals we’ve conceded and I bet six or seven including today’s are directly down to that. I think Ash has potential and prefer him to Istead but we need better to be in contention. The full backs are better going forward than defending and their positioning often leaves us hugely exposed.
Strikers win matches (though even Alfie finding that a tall order at present) while defences win championships.

I mean the 2nd half was a lot better. 1st half was dreadful. I just don't know how im suppose to feel anymore. I was Appleton out, then I thought a few new signings and a little bit of a lift might see us start the game on the front foot. That didn't come, however much better 2nd half.
Ultimately 1 in 15 in what was suppose to be the poorest league 1 in a while. Isn't acceptable, I don't think Appleton is the man, but I also don't think sacking your manager every 6 months is the solution. I just don't know. To be honest I don't care at the moment either.

Or CBT's replacement.
Oh well.
Jones, Ness, Thomas all in question right now, but so Was Big Hec.

Think Isted goes back in goal next week now he's back fit
For those saying we might go down, I'd be very surprised if we did. Don't get me wrong we're poor but I don't think we're quite that bad... YET!
Appleton no wins in 10 I think they'll give him the window first, but if he doesn't get a win in the next two he will be in trouble

I am not saying he's the solution, but as a rotational centre back, we could do a lot worse.
It does beg the question why we left ourselves so thin in wide areas in the summer, moving DJ on with the hapless Kirk the only other option.

Complete apathy.
