Yup can confirm there are plenty of religious nuts (and in this country not just the US) that believe man walked with dinosaurs only a few thousand years ago before the flood.

They are so defiant in their beliefs that they are convinced the science is wrong and all a big conspiracy to trick us. Carbon dating is faked. It's all basically fake.

Or maybe the science is right and the fairy tale is wrong?
  • Stegosurus/Stegosauri are the best dinosaurs, dont know much about the bible.
    Diplodocus I think you'll find.
  • it's not totally beyond belief .. how many big bangs have taken place over uncountable time .. how many black holes have swallowed massive galaxies and then spat out new ones ? .. answers on a fifty pound note please
The Big Bang is a theory that is starting to fall out of favour.
Is it, with who? How do they explain cosmic radiation background?
I think Big Bang is still the “established” view but there is increasingly physicists that are questioning it. The theory relies very much on Einstein and his theory of relativity but that alone doesn’t explain the singularity and everything from nothing. For example Michio Kaku theorises that the universe was created by energy in a vacuum.
Fuck me, I’d better be careful where I stick my Henry Hoover!!! 😱😂

I know that it should be pronounced with emphasis on PLOD but it will be a cold day in Hell (see what I did there?) when I don’t pronounce it with an emphasis of DOH !
  • Fascinated by the Bible, which I have concluded is a great history book where the key content can be got to by a robust disreguarding of all the religious stuff.
Quite why mouthpieces get their knickers in a twist over it's mere existance or the fact certain sections of society read more into it than sanity allows, is beyond me.

Move on and have a pop at the Qoran, oh what's that? Don't fancy it?

    Love dinosaurs though.
Well to be fair, I would suggest 95% of us do not know any of the stories in the Koran/Quaran/Qoran.

Maybe it references dinosaurs, I just don’t know
  • Dream time
But who, or what, was dreaming?

One of the stories involves a man who is instructed by god to build a huge ship to protect two of every species on earth from a big flood

If you want to pick up a free copy of the Koran/Quaran/Qoran they are handing out free copies in Leicester Square.

    You’re alright
  • Read Greek mythology - it’s a lot more exciting.

Mythos by Stephen Fry is a good route to getting into it.
  • Local supermarket own brand yoghurt...

... tastier than Mr Fry's book, but less interesting.

Do they do Incontinente for pensioners?
There's a programme on Radio 4 called Crossing Continents, but it always sounds like Cross Incontinents to my ears.

Good for thrush, allegedly. Not sure about other avian species.

Many of which are descended from dinosaurs.

    And we've come full circle!

Are you saying that dinosaurs were susceptible to thrush?🤔

Going slightly off piste but the Supreme Court in Alabama has just ruled that frozen human embryos are children.  This ruling combined with other ludicrous bits of US legislation is likely to mean that IVF treatment is not going to be happening in that backwater.

I was drawn to this quote from one of the Supreme Court nutjobs Judges. Concurring with the majority opinion, Chief Justice Tom Parker wrote: "Even before birth, all human beings have the image of God, and their lives cannot be destroyed without effacing his glory."

Having read this redneckery, it comes as no surprise to learn that this particular dinosaur was elected to his position rather than being granted it by virtue of his erudite legal brilliance.
I used to go out with a girl from Alabama and whilst she was fairly cosmopolitan and (relatively) liberal in her views, her sister was the wife of an Alabama preacher and you could not meet a better example of the Christian Right that dominates the deep south in America. She almost certainly agrees with this court decision and probably with the dinosaur bullshit that started this thread.

With these crackpot theories, I always ask the theorist, why? What does anyone have to gain from making it up? I can see what religion has to gain from their side - money from the gullible and power over the easily led, but what do thousands and thousands of scientists and historians have to gain over hundreds of years of work? Sure, they make a living from their job, but they can look at stuff other than dinosaurs or the origins of the universe to make a crust. They also disprove previous theories all the time, that's science.

Moon landing deniers and flat earthers too - what's to be gained by continuing the "lie" about landing on the moon or pretending the earth isn't "spherical"? Why go to all that trouble for no gain?

Conspiracy theories where someone makes a load of money, or gains a position of power - they make sense, but big lies with no reason? Get outta here...
Religion underpins everything for these people, their whole worldview, way of life and every thought. If anything contradicts that they cant handle it and either deny or call it a conspiracy.

Its the same with climate change, every possible indicator and piece of evidence shows its happening but because the idea that people are abusing this planet and its limited resources and might cause the end of the world contradicts their belief that every person is planned and put here by God on his perfect planet and he will bring the end of the world they cant handle it.

We’re discovering new species of insects pretty much every week with estimated thousands if not millions still to discover. How does that square with the bible and the flood. They weren’t saved by Noah so are completely new since the great flood or they survived the deluge which means god fucked up. Quite why I’m engaging with this I have no idea apart from its ridiculousness, I really don’t know. The bible my arse.
    Evolution?

    Ah shit maybe not
Evolution could produce new species and sub species over time certainly but not in the 10,000 years these bible punchers claim is the age of the world.
I dunno, we've devolved an incredible amount in just a decade !
