And whats more, I don’t know why in the studio they excused the ref for being unsighted ( assistant certainly was) as he was two yards away and would have seen the defender’s right arm swinging forwards. They were totally doing that - middle of the second half when we had been on top since half time. Keeper did a tactical sit down at one point - he can't go off after treatment. And it worked, game became bitty thereafter. Makes their manager's comments that they dominated / deserved to win ridiculous.colthe3rd said:

Anderson has been immense these last two games. Don't know whether he's the answer if we stay up and want to push on, but in the situation we are in his energy (and no shortage of skill) is just what we need. Compare that to Fraser.
Think his inclusion, backing Jones to lead the the back three and play on the front foot and bringing in Isted are the three biggest improvements, selection wise, N Jones has made.
Isted controls the space behind the defenders with so much more assurance than AMB.6 -

Keep playing at the level that we have against Bolton and Pompey and we will win enough of those games to stay up.3 -
Point taken but a major reason for that: for a long time I didn’t think that we’d attract anyone that could do any better, my honest opinion at the time was we were probably looking at the Cowley brothers coming in, at best.Addick_8 said:

By the time he was let go it had become clear there was no coming back and anyone with a bit of experience, Cowleys and all, would’ve been a better choice.Some will insist that the board waited too long but I’ll take the positives and say it’s a clear sign that they’re not here to hire and fire at the first signs of adversity.Again, on top of all that, when he was sacked I still didn’t think we’d get near Michael Duff, let alone Nathan Jones. I look at that game and I think we’ll deffo stay up because the intensity and effort is beyond impressive then I look at the lack of guile and creativity and think where will the goals come from if we have to break down a team .
How many times was the ball simply just booted out when attempting a pass , absolute junk some of it .

Lloyd Jones beyond immense for 99.9% of the game and my man of the match but why he didn’t take one for the team I just cannot fathom when he made a lame attempt (only seen it live so may be wrong ) to take the fellow out when through he owes Gillesphey big time for his Rufus like point saving tackle .
Isted who looked pony in his early matches is looking better and better each game and this has spread to the defence .
Chucks and Camara offered nothing when on , bizarre , he didn’t look right to me Chucks his movement was more awkward than normal .
This has the feel of the opposite of years back when you could see how shit we were but managed to be 5th (top) for ages in the Championship, appalling performances but results conspired for ages to leave us there for ages before the inevitable slump to 11th
Currently we’re still 5th (bottom) and may be for a little while but these performances are much better(not difficult) than the previous shit served up . Hopefully some wins arrive and the rise to 11th bottom occurs .
it’s sick looking at all the results and everything else but it gets the juices flowing , I’ll be honest I was so immersed in the game body popping and moving Nathan Jones style at the ebb and flow of it that I thought the atmosphere from us wasn’t all that all things considered but reading above some thing it was good and others not so .

The fact we are this deep in to a season in one of the worst third tiers we have seen and are deeply involved in a relegation battle is a disgrace to this club in what is our worst run of footballing seasons by a long way since we first departed the third tier in 1929 but it is what it is and a wank over survival with have to suffice if it cums .
boffin decided to stay at home and study (doing his A levels this year) and watch on iPad but he’s been Carlisle, Blackpool, burton etc away this season fucking weirdo (although understandable he doesn’t want to be near me ) , he’s got a cup game against millwall stars at millwall park this morning , north side of the river cnuts should have stayed north and not spoiled the beautiful south.
55% and another shit show of a season finishes in the success of surviving in the third tier

The impact NJ has made on the team and individuals is there to see. Anderson for example
a different player to the one I saw vs Lincoln 2 weeks ago.
As many have commented the work rate was excellent from every one. Add a bit of composure in the final third and the wins will soon follow.9 -
Yes, I think Bakinson can do a job in certain games. He reminds me a bit of Pratley. He will battle, tackle and run but his passing is pretty poor.RedChaser said:

Appleton recognised and spoke about our lack of competitiveness and running off the ball. The difference being he couldn't change it up. Draw was a fair result, thought they were going to nick it in the dying seconds when from being in their corner in the 96th minute we offered a ridiculous cross into their box which they ran up the other end and almost scored with the last kick of the match. Isted makes me feel a lot more comfortable than Brewer ever did.6

Couple of comments that Aneke didn’t create anything on the marks thread. Well there was a beautifully weighted through ball inside the area for (I think) Small who should have done better maybe. And Chuks only had 12 touches, and was feeding off scraps. You could see he rattled Portsmouth nonetheless.There was also a good example of how Nathan Jones is affecting games. We were taking a throw in just inside their half, and players were ambling forwards in front of him. He went bonkers, waving his arms and shouting at them, and they responded, running up the touchline, to receive the throw. Urgency, that’s what he insists on. Haven’t seen that from Charlton for ages, and it makes such a difference.11

The pressure to win a game continues to ramp up despite going 3 unbeaten and looking more competitive under NJ. Fearing relegation is still where I'm at based on results and the table. I ask myself if we'll have what it takes to see out games from winning positions, which we must, and until we do, the doubts will remain.

I really enjoyed that yesterday. A team who did not look scared and went at Portsmouth. We did not let them settle and you could tell they was not comfortable with our high press.I come away a bit disappointed not to nick that, we had the chances to.Jones has shown what coaching and in game management can do for this team. If we play like that we will get some wins. If we can get them soon the pressure will come off.6

Thats two weeks in a row I’ve actually enjoyed watching Charlton, unthinkable a month or so ago under Appleton.It defies all logic because we now haven’t won a match in three months, but I feel less concerned about relegation than I have for a while. Watching the matches you can see something mere win/loss stats don’t tell you - we’re building something here.Five wins from 12 isn’t going to be easy, but I’d back us to get that over Cheltenham and Vale who need six from 14 (maybe more given the massive goal difference in our favour).13

Most enjoyable match for me this season. A proper football team led by Jones and Anderson. Fight like that and the goals and wins will come.Getting Camara fit for starts could be the important extra spark.6

I seem to be in a minority, but I actually thought it was a really good game. Sitting under the gantry, I was convinced Kanu had scored early doors, only to see it spin slightly to the right. Who says a couple of inches doesn't matter?
I was also convinced they would score towards the end, only for Gillesphey making an heroic challenge. When NJ took over, I was a bit perplexed that he re-instated Anderson into the team, as I really didn't think he was ready for 1st team L1 football, but I have to take me hat off to the lad, one of the first names on the teamsheet now. Same goes for Kanu. Also liking the look of Small. I didn't see the penalty appeal (decided to take that moment to look at the screen to see how long left, doh), so I have no opinion on it.
Overall, a fair result IMO.
Nice to see a higher attendance in & around us. Seems like a fair few day trippers that aren't used to football, as I saw at least a dozen just casually ambling in with a pint in their hand and seemed shocked that they couldn't take it to their seats. One guy even got past the steward, only to go back and ask her where his seat was

It’s always seemed to me that fans see a corner straight into the box as having a greater chance of scoring but then so often it actually favours the defence. Do the same fans wish we just banged it into the box in a similarly hopeful fashion in normal play? I believe that short corners ultimately lead to more goals. I thought I had read once that, statistically, relatively few goals actually yield from corners. I think it’s mainly the excitement in the build up play to the corner that gets people going, then your brought back down to earth when the corner is played!se9addick said:
