If him and Godden have been financed by selling May, then I think overall it's good business, as though we've lost the highest goalscorer in the league, I feel those 2 will contribute to the team game more overall

Looks decent on paper, given what people have said about him.

My only concern is he had a bad injury at Ipswich and then had one at Cambridge.

Fingers crossed he’s over that now.

Rumours thin on the ground at the moment. Do we reckon that's it for now or that there will be 1 or 2 in before the weekend ?
and as if by magic....... :)

Midfield priorty now for me but suppose signings dont come in order.
  • Six in the door before the first game of pre-season is decent IMO. Hopefully, we can get one more before we travel to the pre-season camp. Personally, hoping it’s Dobson, but would like to see the midfield strengthened next as it looks light in numbers. Especially, if you think Fraser & Henry will be moved on.

I think Rich Cawley said the goal keeper position won’t be fill for a while, as imagine our targets of Ruddy & Davies didn’t sign.

Does anyone think we’ll get some incoming loans this year?

GK, Dobson & a number 10 and we're good to go I would say.

I think possibly we could be looking at 2-3 supplementary loans at the end of the window but Jones has publically stated a few times he prefers developing our own players

I do like that Jones doesn't like to rely on loans but a couple would be worth a punt surely.

Yep makes sense to try and recruit what you can and then if any real quaility loans come up then go for it.

I thought Berry was the 10?

Unless Dobson gets a new agent I would be very surprised if he returns to us. I would love it if he did though!

I think loans largely depend on the type of player. If it's late in the window, we haven't managed to sign a couple of targets and there's someone who can come in on loan, fill a gap and improve us, then it'll happen

Well I for one have no complaints with the backing the board have given Jonesy so far!

I'd have thought George would have dumped his agent already after the farce of Hungary...

Agree. Unusual for us to get in replacements for May before transfer window deadline - really pleased that we did, and both in time for pre-season. I must admit I was gutted to see May leave, but our striking options now (if fit) should cover it. I think much will depend on Leaburn's return from injury and how fit Chuks can stay this year, but striking options (with Kanu as well) looking promising.

I think so far our business has been very good.
like Nathan and the club has echoed there seems to be a plan in place.

We are not signing players for the sake of it and are only finalising transfers if they fit into NJ vision.

I’m glad we’ve brought two strikers in in quick succession.

I was initially unsure of us selling May, but based on the two signings we’ve made I think it’s fair to say that May not being part of NJ plans might not be far from the truth aided with May wanting a move further north to be closer to his family.

I have no idea how this season is going to go but to this point this is the best transfer window we’ve had in a long time and we are not done yet.

this season there is genuine hope that Nathan Jones can produce a promotion winning squad.

@Swisdom will be his new agent and he’ll move him into the house next door

One thing to note as well is whilst the fees involved aren't going to be huge, Mitchell, Edwards, Ahadme and Godden have all cost something, and with the exception of Godden they're all in the early half of their careers, so they do well here and they hit their prime, and they'll have re-sell value

So, does this count as getting the majority of the squad in early?

NJ said he wanted nine, I make that six.

So that leaves three, maybe four if May leaving means another to replace him (already here is my guess).

The optimistic view is that the players do appear to fit a pattern of play chosen by Jones, are all, bar Godden and Berry, fairly young, fill obvious gaps/needs in the squad and are here in time for the first friendly and the summer camp.

The pessimistic view is that we've not seen them perform as a team in competitive games yet and until we do we don't know how well it will work and we're still missing three more players, possibly a keeper, maybe a centre back and probably one of two midfielders.  And we still have players we need to move on.

Great business so far - all decent signings at League 1 or Championship and above level. and good contracts and players the manager actually wants !

Also no loan signings either which is always a bonus !!

I would imagine they thought they had Davies in the bag too, so 7 out of 9. However was part of that 9 selling May and buying Godden? I doubt it, so I think 4 may actually be the target still, a GK, a CB, a CM and a 10/winger

I don’t mind loan players but I prefer to only have 1 or 2 of really good quality. We’ve had the odd loan of quality in the last 10 years but a lot of dross.

I’m hopeful that we’ll still sign a Gk, a cb and 2 mids on perms before 1 or 2 late loans of quality (Taylor @Luton)
