If constipation was a football match, this was it. Charlton, having not won in five, travelled to bottom-of-the-table Burton, looking to redeem themselves by preying on the even more hapless young side. They pushed and pushed, but little came. Hoping to feast themselves, the visitors instead found it difficult to find openings and the whole affair trudged on and on in hopeless tedium. Charlton did impose themselves but without enough quality to make it count.
The same one half started in much the same way and, whilst there were chances for both sides, it wasn’t until the sixty-eighth minute mark that the monotony was broken. Substitute Terry Taylor found himself chasing back, attempting to stem a Burton counter attack. He pulled back Charlie Webster in a clumsy, forceful manner that Webster was not happy about. The frustrated Webster lost his head and charged Taylor, knocking him to the ground in a clear act of aggression that resulted in his sending off. Now, could Charlton make their numerical advantage count? Barely. But there was a breakthrough on eighty two minutes, when substitute Thierry Small burst into the six yard box and forced the Burton keeper into rushing out and deflecting the ball into Conor Coventry at the edge of the box. His first shot was well parried, but he got onto the rebound with his left and unleashed a rocket through traffic that broke the deadlock and saved the away side’s blushes. It wasn’t a classic affair, only a sign that a side bottom of the league and with a man less is about our level.
Three points is still three points, but it doesn’t change the fact that we’re woefully inadequate.

Either way, less said about tonight’s game the better.
3 points in the bag
But fuck me we look so poor
Ps Half year season tickets still on sale. Get in quick to ensure your seat at Wembley.
That was dreadful though, against a historically bad side. Not convinced at all
Tough watch, in January we need to utilise the loan market and get some creativity/guile in
Coventry was my MOM, not just for the goal, but his all round work rate. Taylor must start in front of Anderson as does TC
Happy with the win, but something has to change in our performances!
Anderson needs to be loaned out in the transfer window. I just don't know what he brings to the team?
Utter Cack
I've sat here tonight fuming. How can a team that so say has the 4th highest budget in the league be so inept? How can the only tactic they have be seemingly to hoof the ball forward? What on earth do they do in training all week?
The blame surely has to rest with Jones. How much longer are we going to have to put up with him and his strange team selections? Karoy Anderson may be a lovely guy who can run all day but he shouldn't be anywhere near the first team. How comes Taylor keeps getting frozen out?
Something has got to change. And quickly.
Four of the next six league games are at home. If we can pick up some points, and by some miracle buy some decent non-Luton, non-Ipswich players in the transfer window.... we might make top 10.
