Not sure if it's been mentioned but Zak Mitchell out for 10 weeks with hamstring injury
Great, the good news just keeps on coming.

Also noticed that Chuk's latest knock is now coming up to 2 months since his last game. What is actually wrong with him this time?

Can't believe the high marks for Leaburn.  To me he seems totally disinterested .
I've always been baffled by people presuming he'd get picked up by a Prem club. No chance in my opinion. Decent player for us but can't see him being successful at a higher level. He mimicks a baby giraffe most games

As much as I like and contribute to the players marks its a bit of  pointless exercise really, a lot of the time people will just mark based on what they think and hope of and from a player, rather than what they actually did.

Theres a few unbiased well measured opinions but then they get out weighed at times, like the poster who spent 3 pages of the match thread laying into Ahadme for missing an open goal that absolutely did not happen in this reality.
  • That was a tough watch. I knew Burton were not the best team even before we kicked off and they certainly proved that over 90 minutes but I don't think they looked out of place playing us. We were exactly what we all know we are, a team a few places higher and a team that will not threaten to do anything other than tread water in the third division. Last nights performance is the result of coaching at a club with some pretty good facilities, there must be either a high absent  rate from players and staff daily or none of them are capable of taking our club forward, (its the latter).
I've been going since the mid '70s, lots of things have improved over that time but in that time and some things have gone backwards and beyond. I have never thought our natural level would be making up the numbers in this league. I now look at Charlton the same way as I used to look at Bromley. There was a time when I thought a good run in the cup was on the cards, although it rarely happened, it could of. I'm now thinking we could be out of the cup before Christmas.
  • It is so frustrating we have no creativity , as I really do like Godden his is a very intelligent player and love his work ethic, with quality service he could score shit loads.

I'm not seeing it as a definite red , TT grabbing his face and making a meal of it helped the sending off , the other way round I'm sure there would be accusations of play acting . TC came in and shoved their fella as well and got away with it .
It was more than a yellow and less than a red to me but fuck em we're shit and need the rub to get a result against utter poo

Think it was more the level of aggression compared with TC's push. Also had his head down so may have looked like he rammed it into TT's chest.

    Positive Me

A very welcome win in a match we dominated in terms of efforts on goal, and with a clean sheet too. Conor Coventry had a very good game, even aside from his goal, making strong contributions all over the pitch. No further injuries and Nathan Jones, for once, wasn’t booked.

    Negative Me

Three points, yes, but in a match that would not have looked out of place in the National League. Shocking lack of quality. We won’t win many more unless we can seriously up our standard of performance.

    Summary

Both perspectives are true. I really cant see much if any investment in the starting X1 in January so it’s up to Jones and the backroom team to earn their wages - get players fit, find a more effective pattern of play, start living up to the relatively high budget we have. We should at least finish top half.

As predicted sunk the 6 beers. As we won I have promoted myself to gin&tonic. Happy days and a poor watch but great result. COYA

Headache, and that's just Charlton. The 6 beers got promoted

Think in terms of link up and winning headers, I think it was Gas's best game for us and if he had that booking, might have seen out the 90 and maybe ended up with a goal.

Do need to see more of that of course but it was a good platform to build on.

We deserved the win though we weren't great but we needed the win, one way or another.

We were clearly the better team but still lacked quality, especially offensively. The sending off was a gift but was the correct decision as there was a slight head to head contact even though I don't think it was intended. A bit stupid from their player. Hopefully we will gain confidence and start playing a bit better than that. My biggest worry was Leaburn. He should be tearing a team like that a new one. Ahadme, well he just hasn't got it for me. Even though Leaburn was poor he was still a big threat, hitting the post and his header put Small in for the goal.

We are more dangerous with Small and TC playing IMO. Burton look to me to be in serious trouble and that takes away from the performance because it is hard to ignore how bad they are. We certainly have to improve and fast as we are not out of touch,YET, and we need to stay within sight of the play offs and bring two or three in in January. I think that has to happen as there are major holes in the side.

The only time this season we look even slightly effective going forward is when TC is out wide. Going down the middle we are awful and with Ramsay out injured the full backs aren't great at getting forward to provide width. Would like to see us sign a winger in Jan and try and incorporate width into our play.

Anderson works hard but has very poor technique. He epitomises the old "couldn't trap a bag of cement" comment. I suspect he gets so much game time because our business model depends on selling academy products and he's probably the closest in terms of potentially attracting a (very) modest fee - about two bob.

The weaknesses in his game are clear and weakness is one of them. His young age may be a contributor to that. But I think he is an important part of our team as it stands now. He does bring much needed energy and played some nice balls yesterday.

You say this but we had teams above us interested in signing Terry Taylor in the summer. I think his value would be quite a bit more than Anderson's although not sure if there's further benefits from selling an academy player.

Gas is a lump it forward target man that doesn't win half his headers. Atrocious player that I'm sure when he leaves us (probably in the summer) he will drop down to League Two or maybe even National League.

There would be if we were higher up the divisions for financial control reasons but doesn't make much difference to us now

He's done some good work for us but he must be done now.

Most interesting part of that interview is that we stayed up after Huddersfield which explains why no Dixon or Asiimwe in the squad for either. Clearly felt the senior cup was a good opportunity for them
A big financial commitment by the club that, an extra 3 nights in a hotel. Did they train at St George's Park?
No. They trained on the beach at Blackpool with the other donkeys.

I'm told they felt very at home.

I don’t think I’ve ever shouted at the telly as much as I did during the first 70 minutes of that game.
If we hadn’t started passing the ball during the last 15 minutes I would say it was one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen by a winning team.
  • Overall we were a very poor side last night who in all honestly wouldn't have won that game if they were not down to 10 men.

What I noticed was the lack of awareness from our strikers, in particular Leaburn and Ahadme both had brilliant balls put into the box ahead of them and both failed to latch onto the end of them. If we could lock that down we would've been 2/3 goals ahead last night at a minimum.

On the bright side I thought Coventry had a brilliant game not only bagging the goal but solid defensively and never backing out of any challenges.

  • A landmark match for me. Burton are definitely one of the worst league one teams possibly ever and yet our manager couldn’t pick a team, his team and provide tactics to win convincingly which we should have been able. Jones is a nutcase. He’s looking like a stubborn, tactically inept one trick pony who holds grudges against players and has favourites. Landmark for me because last night was the match that tipped my give him time attitude to a definite it’s only a matter of time before he’s sacked. We’re going nowhere with him in charge.
  • What Anderson offers in energy (and i cant fault his effort or his off the ball running) doesnt make up for his lack of quality in relation to his first touch and ability to spot a pass. We win our game in hand and we could be only 2 points off playoffs but that doesnt tell the full story of our performances.

Watching his interview afterwards with El Tel NJ looks that he was under pressure to get a win…we can see that with the style of hoof ball and lack of control.  I really think that if we had lost the match it would have been his last match. I still think he is on the ledge because of the dire football being served up each week and of course the poor results. NJ has been back by the owners but he is not delivering. To me it’s count down time and I don’t think there is too long left on the clock.

Karoy Anderson was twenty years old eight weeks ago.
    Not finished, just started.
He is a battler at the moment, gaining experience in a poor domestic team, but also gaining experience as an international player.
    Eight weeks after turning twenty.
I would pick him over Docherty, Alan Campbell, and Luke Berry, of the midfielders listed on the official site, only Coventry and Taylor would be my pick ahead of him, and even then it would be marginal, Tayo Edun would come next, but that is because we haven’t seen much of him amongst the dross and there is little to criticise about him this season.
Go on, who would pick, for example, Alan Campbell ahead of Anderson?

Unless there is a radical change of approach to the way we are being asked to play we are going nowhere. I don’t think it will happen as NJ is too stubborn and he will stick to the process ! As we can all see our game plan is to give the ball to Gillespie ( cafc’s appointed Beckenbaur ) who hoofs it up the field hoping one of our big strikers can head it 😂 trouble is we are not very good at it and defenders deal with it easily, it is a terrible watch ! We won’t get relegated but we won’t win many games either. Crowds will fall understandably as who wants to pay money to watch that shite when you can do so for free on any non league pitch.
I’m so gutted as I honestly had so much hope earlier in the season but now it truely is a chore to watch us play

Not forgetting we had three of our first choice strikers on from the start last night and none of them scored against a very poor bottom of the table team

Fairly sure he won more than half last night?

Certainly not saying he is world beater but he played well last night.

Surely that depends where your coming from. If you go M25, M11, A14 West, M6 and cut across, you might get a clear run some days

Considering we don’t look like scoring I see Dixon scored 4 goals last night admittedly against much lower opposition but in the very brief cameo appearance in the first team he made a fantastic break surely he is worth a punt against Crawley ?
