I enjoyed the goal. Nice break into the box by Small, and his well struck shot was parried by the keeper straight to Coventry, who unleashed a bit of a rocket - which was brilliantly saved one handed by the keeper, despite taking a slight deflection on its way. Unfortunately for Crocombe, the ball rebounded straight back to Coventry, whose slightly mishit left footed shot bounced a couple of times before crossing the line.
I’ve never seen a game where a side had 24 shots, 17 on target, while looking so out of sorts.
We did improve in the second half, so let’s hope they can take that improvement into the next game. But this doesn’t look like a team that’ll be troubling the playoffs.
"If constipation was a football match, this was it." Worthy of a 1980s Kevin Nolan match report that @LoOkOuT. Meanwhile, I think @Showmetheway2gohome needs to show us a screenshot of his betting slip, so we can appreciate the true extent of the sacrifice involved here:
Most interesting part of that interview is that we stayed up after Huddersfield which explains why no Dixon or Asiimwe in the squad for either. Clearly felt the senior cup was a good opportunity for them
A big financial commitment by the club that, an extra 3 nights in a hotel. Did they train at St George's Park?
Absolutely awful game of football, with very little, if any, quality. Standard of commentary on Sky matched it but did produce some comedy moments, notably when laughing outloud at one badly mishit clearance, randomly commenting on an Xmas tree on the stand and pausing in panic while desperately trying to avoid pronouncing the name of our final substitute. Feel sorry for Ahadme, does a couple of decent things, but overall we were conned by Ipswich, and I genuinely didn't notice Berry was playing until he got booked. Anderson has gone backwards and while I really like Taylor, thought the only positive thing he did was fall over and get their best player sent off. Have never got the hype about Leaburn, but hope to be proved wrong. Very nearly lumped a substantial bet on us finishing top half at the beginning of the season. Would now be extremely worried if I had.
Positives - Every 3 points banked takes us further from relegation. Red card was a blessing. negatives - team poor, performance poor, we don’t look like we are ever going to score. We don’t seem to have improved in 4 years despite a turnstile of players coming and going.
This league is shite and we epitomise it. The players we are missing mainly Jones and Ramsay are killing us. Taylor has to play I'm past caring how we accommodate him, his passing is better than anything else we have and his dead ball delivery is actually threatening.
Burton made that difficult for my money, they stayed compact, had at least 8 bodies behind the ball most of the game. Their 7 and 8 were both decent and Morsi is always a threat but they are screwed we are still easy meat and can't defend the penalty box.
Godden keeps impressing me, he has a football brain. Ahadme I hope will get there, I know there is a footballer in there but he is not helping at the moment.
The referee did not help, another homer at best but ultimately someone who gave poor decisions all game and fell for all the play acting and gamesmanship going
It's difficult to have the hump after a win but this morning I feel flat. Burton are absolutely woeful and at half time there was nothing between the teams. We don't take control of games, even games we should be winning. There's no passages of play, how often do you see us keep hold of the ball for longer than ten passes? Why he persists without wingers is beyond me (maybe because he left us without any this summer bar TC) but when Small and TC were on the pitch we looked much better because you stretch the opposition. Sure NJ will roll out the positive stats about amount of shots etc but we were against the worst team in the league by a mile who concede goals for fun it's not impressive.
The real stats are between our six centre forwards on the books we've only scored seven league goals.
Teams with playoff aspirations have scored at least eight goals more than us already
We had nine goals more at the same stage last season
We've conceded four less than at this stage last season.
All in all my bet is we finish between 11th & 13th about fifteen points outside the playoffs

This is it really, we're just as bad as we've been for years now. Despite money being spent
That was a proper struggle to sit through and laughable how bad a football display it was, Burton were terrible one player apart, we weren't much better but we take the points home.
We looked better ( I think) compared to the last few games but mainly due to the intensity returning rather than any real quality, the formation looked alright but some slight question marks over the starting selection. Ahadme wasnt as bad as made out and Leaburn continues to look like the much talked about prospect in patches, turning it on against U23 and non league sides is one thing but need it to happen in the league.
Taylor should and must start criminal that he's being left out the starting 11.
Back to the formation and selection, if we go with it again then swap Godden and Ahadme around, put the player lacking quality but with work rate behind the Forward who has and can actually score when the ball drops in the box.
Well, we won. Thats about all that matters really.
Also great to see the Dobson Cullen replacement Coventry get his first goal, excellent game from him last night.
Can't believe the high marks for Leaburn. To me he seems totally disinterested .
I've always been baffled by people presuming he'd get picked up by a Prem club. No chance in my opinion. Decent player for us but can't see him being successful at a higher level. He mimicks a baby giraffe most games
A measure of just how poor this league is, is that we are 5 points off the play offs despite playing well in about 3 games all season.
I have zero hope we're going to suddenly gatecrash the top 6, but i think right now the best we can hope for is to be there or thereabouts by January and then strengthen the side in the areas we desperately need.
I'm not seeing it as a definite red , TT grabbing his face and making a meal of it helped the sending off , the other way round I'm sure there would be accusations of play acting . TC came in and shoved their fella as well and got away with it . It was more than a yellow and less than a red to me but fuck em we're shit and need the rub to get a result against utter poo

it's a proper shithouse league and i'll say a low 70s could scrape in the play offs

Just looked at the high lights maybe there bloke headbutted him...couldn't quite tell.
Got to say that whilst we were in total control of the game it's probably highlighted our lack of penetration. The only striker who shows movement and worries defenders is Leaburn, Godden was busy but feeding on scraps and if Ahadme's strength is in the air, and you don't play wingers who will cross, why buy him ? A lot of posters are criticising Anderson and in an ideal world he would be allowed to develop at the same pace as Asiimwe but he is in there because he can get up and down the pitch, my opinion is that he will be a really good player but young players form, as they develop, can peak and trough and he's definitely in the latter this season. A lot of players are suffering because of the team set up, the front three last night were almost all centre forwards, with only Leaburn prepared to move out of the middle and there is no pace in a middle three if Anderson doesn't start, the back four have enough when all are fully fit to handle this division. The one thing in this division is the inconsistency of, even, the better sides, and if Jones discovers a successful way to play then the play offs are still achievable but that way of playing still seems a long way off.

Play like that on Saturday and we shall be out of the FA Cup

I now find my horrible, sarcastic (boomer) self repeating those words every time he crashes into a mistimed tackle or sends a pass astray.
If not, then it was a mediocre side beating a worse one who only had ten men.
The XG debate will be interesting (actually it won't because for all the the shots we only scored once)

Pissed off. Happy Wednesday
Down to Jones and the players to deliver.
