MATCH THREAD ( +post p26): CAFC V Leyton Orient : Vertu Trophy RD 2 : Tues 10th Dec 2024 : KO 19:00

So, we are  back on the glory trail that is cup competition...and tonight it's the newly renamed Vertu Trophy, aka The BSM Trophy, take yer pick on that one...where we take on Leyton Orient, our fellow league one members in the last 32 of the competition on the hallowed turf..
Now, I can't get too excited about tonight to be honest, but it's a chance to get a much needed win on the cards which will hopefully translate onto the bread and butter of the league, and a chance of progression and another step towards Wembley, so maybe I should try harder eh...🙄

The’ O’s sit 16th in the table having picked up six wins, three draws and nine losses so far this season, they will be without Sean Clare, Darren Pratley, Theo Archibald and Jordan Graham

We've met  on 55 previous occasions, winning 24, the O’s 20 and the remaining 11 meetings resulting in draws, Luke Berry netted the all-important winner at The Valley back in August when Charlton claimed a 1-0 victory in Sky Bet League One.

Here we go...

Team news...

Kaheim Dixon will make his first start for the Addicks in tonight's Vertu Trophy round of 32 tie against Leyton Orient at The Valley.

The Jamaican international has made two appearances off the substitutes bench since joining the Addicks in the summer.

Nathan Jones has made nine changes for the cup clash, with Ashley Maynard-Brewer and captain Greg Docherty the two players to retain their places.

Academy starlet Josh Laqeretabua, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Dan Potts and Thierry Small may make up a back four in front of Maynard-Brewer.

If playing in a 4-4-2 formation then Dixon may operate from the right with Luke Berry and Docherty in central midfield and Tayo Edun on the left behind Matty Godden and Miles Leaburn. If playing a 4-3-3 Dixon could join Godden and Leaburn in a front three.

Macaulay Gillesphey, Nathan Asiimwe, Terry Taylor, Allan Campbell, Tyreece Campbell, Danny Hylton and Daniel Kanu make up the substitutes bench.

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; Laqeretabua, Edmonds-Green, Potts, Small; Dixon, Berry, Docherty (c), Edun; Godden, Leaburn

Subs: Gillesphey, Asiimwe, Taylor, A.Campbell, T.Campbell, Hylton, Kanu

God Charlton really need to lose tonight. I cant face taking my Son to school, and having the Leyton Orient Dad there gloating that they dont need to play anymore games in this competition for the rest of the season!! ;)

  • Still no keeper on the bench...bit risky.

Especially as the 'keeper we do have has a fetish for concussions
  • OS suggesting either a proper Brexit 4-4-2 with Dixon and Edun on the wings, or 4-3-3 with Dixon and Leaburn wide in the front three.
  • Jaiyesimi and Pratley start for Orient tonight.

  • Going by the Orient eleven; Hemming - Cooper - Donley - Perkins - Kelman - DJ - Obiero all had involvement earlier in the season at the Valley
  • Coventry?
    Injured?
  • Lucky Injury for Clare, worried in case someone may remind him last time we played them 🥴

He was out injured for Lincoln (muscle tightness apparently) so possibly being rested for tonight also

    It's a silly decision.
Jones did the same on Saturday, you can imagine the grief he would get if the goalkeeper got injured and we lost the game as a result of having an outfield player in goal.
It does not make sense.  I would love to know his justification for it.

If only Hylton was on the pitch... f**k the Football!!

Jones' way of bringing more creativity to the squad
  • No stream counter up yet on Charlton tv

Are you sure it’s his decision? It may be forced on him

I’d understand it if we were getting extra options on the bench. But on Saturday we had REG and Laqeretabua on the bench that both cover the same positions so not having a GK over one of them is quite mental

Dixon must be odds on to 'cop' it first!
  • Coverage is up on my dodgy IPTV!!
  • Dixon to be stand in keeper and utilised in the penalty shoot out.
