Might not come at all.
When it's on the OS......

Could it be that SCP has gone to the board to say, either we get people in or i walk.
If he walks, then that effectively opens the whole bag of worms.0 -
I'm surprised he wasn't 'snapped up' by one of the newly promoted sides, e.g. Soton or Reading, as as I'm sure when he left Bolton he would have expected to get another (lower) PL club.0
-
I refuse to disbelieve any rumour until Superclive has stated that one of his director pals has confirmed that it will definitely happen.0
-
We know that SCP had a wish list at the start of the season now I am sure there were players on there that we never got for what reason at the moment we don't really know but one of them was a striker who is plying his trade now in our division another was a midfielder that IMO would've made a better impact than the current 4 have

Surely the reason Powell didn't get a few players he wanted is quite obvious ... NO cash, in both senses of the word !nth london addick said:We know that SCP had a wish list at the start of the season now I am sure there were players on there that we never got for what reason at the moment we don't really know but one of them was a striker who is plying his trade now in our division another was a midfielder that IMO would've made a better impact than the current 4 have

So if that's the case why are people clamouring for NRC ?Lincsaddick said:

We have no money and someone with this record;
Will cost a fortune. We could, maybe, accommodate 20% of his wages. If you never had to work again in your life would you be motivated to put your all in for 20% of what you're used to earning ?Henry Irving said:He's been playing in the premiership for the last five years or so and has captained West Ham, Villa and Bolton at various times. over 300 games and most of those in the top flight.
He maybe not all that but he is a premiership "not all that0 -
This could happen. I want it to.
If I win Euromillions on Friday it will increase the chances.0 -

So if that's the case why are people clamouring for NRC ?
There is a big difference between signing players full time for fees and on long term contracts and signing loanees to cover what is becoming a dangerous situation .. i.e. the players who performed so wonderfully last year are just not doing it this year.
I hope that Reo-Coker is not holding us to ransom .. not signing until we are desperate and willing to pay an inflated wage whilst using our training facitities for his own selfish purposes. His past is littered with toy throwing incidents and he is known to have a high opinion of his own ability. Nothing wrong with that, he is a decent player, but he should either sign or go train elsewhere.0 - Sponsored links:

Mate he turned down a renewal of his reported £40,000 a week contract at bolton (http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/wanderers/wanderersnews/9720235.Wanderers_chiefs_are_cool_over_losing_Reo_Coker/) he isn't going to play for us on a short term contract for peanuts.Lincsaddick said:So if that's the case why are people clamouring for NRC ?

Some times free signings are more dangerous than deals involving fees as the player has greater salary/term expectations.
Don't get me wrong, I think he'd be a great signing, I just can't believe people either have amnesia re our rumoured off field problems or are naive enough to think NRC will come to us on our terms.

Reo-Coker is one of those players who go relatively un-noticed, unless of course you watch him week in, week out. He is highly rated by most fans that have watched him play. Believe me - he is a huge step up compared to what we have now.
We may well have no chance of signing him, but who'd of thought we would of signed Fuller, eh?0 -
He played against our youth team once as a kid - and feels there is unfinished business for him here.0
-
I'm hoping this is right. If there was no possibility of him pulling on a red shirt then I would have expected SCP to come out with " Nigel has asked if we could help him out with his fitness levels and we were happy to do that. Nigel is not on our radar at the moment but it's good to have someone of his experience at the training ground" would put the whole rumour in perspective.0

Who knows he needs to play, would have thought he'd have a chance to sign for a Turkish club on a decent contract. I'd figure a short term contract like Danny Shittu at Millwall a few seasons ago, whereby he can move in January to a prem club. If you're not playing, you can quickly get neglected... look at JL samuel he couldn't get a club and has ended up in Iran. Ok Reo Coker was playing towards the end of his contract, unlike Samuel, but he'll need games if he wants to hit the ground running in the Prem at Xmas. Clearly no one at the moment wants him in the prem.0

I think you are 100 % right and that any criticism of Powell should remember this first
The manager no matter who he is should never be above question on selection however
But if the players for selection are not
quite good enough then this should be taken into account
Without going over The name your sources stuff if there were by chance a selection of players who were ready to sign but didn't for reasons unknown that would have made the squad stronger
It could have had a negative affect on the current squad who felt the mgr didn't rate them enough and also the added affect of not having suitable replacements

Think this is maybe one aspect that many on here have not previously considered, nla.
I do wonder at times about the morale within the squad .
We have been told numerous times about the camaraderie last season and how strong a unit they were.
We desperately need that unity now after the last 2 results .." All for one .." etc etc.0 -
Lambert @ Norwich and Adkins @ Southampton ruthlessly culled (metaphorically speaking !!) their squads on promotion to the championship. Money notwithstanding if Chris Powell is too much of a sentimentalist about his players, then he's in the wrong job0
-
Steady, Lincs ......Norwich and Southampton both backed their managers, affording Champs quality signings.
Chris Powell a sentimentalist?
Well, he was ruthless enough to cull 20 players from his squad 15 months ago.
0 -
2 things .. the 'culling' was not of his players, he inherited a ragbag collection, and as I said, 'money notwithstanding' .. the impression I get is that Powell was prepared to sign a few before the cash dried up, but still give last seasons squad a good run .. unfortunately we're now dangerously close to a position where the players he has chosen are failing and he needs to bite the bullet and better utilise the players he has. For example JJ might be 'my captain' but he is not playing well and should be dropped. I hope that Chris Powell will be tough enough to drop him or at worst declare him unfit and bring in a quicker, stronger player in Kerkar.Oggy Red said:Steady, Lincs ......Norwich and Southampton both backed their managers, affording Champs quality signings.

really really hope this true, will add a bit of much needed bite to our midfield0
-
Sure, the culling of the 20 weren't his own signings - but regarding a couple of players who did survive (Benson, Francis), it was very clear that they were never again to appear as a regular 1st teamer.
That must have been hard for those players on the outside looking in.
Most of our current squad just don't have previous experience of playing above League One. Some players may not be able to fully step up, but others will be given a period to adjust and their performances will improve as a result.
If this season is a period of transition, so be it.

I Agree with most of what you say .. finance, or lack of it has probably scuppered many a plan .. I don't expect promotion, survival is possibly the best we can hope for this season .. BUT ... How much time do you allow for players to 'settle in' before it is too late ? .. and I still maintain that Powell is not selecting the right team(s)Oggy Red said:Sure, the culling of the 20 weren't his own signings - but regarding a couple of players who did survive (Benson, Francis), it was very clear that they were never again to appear as a regular 1st teamer.

We digress from Reo-Coker however. He would defo stiffen up the side alongside a fit Fuller, BUT if he is holding us to ransom over wages, terms etc, he should pack his kit and go train elsewhere. He either wants to play for CAFC, or he doesn't0 -
Why do you think Reo-Coker is holding us to ransom?
If this is a serious opportunity to sign the player, maybe it's a good thing that first both parties take a good look at each other to ensure everything is the right fit.
Can't we just allow things to run their course and see what unfolds?0
