  • Welling have a tough run in, they play the teams in 4th, 6th and 7th who are all chasing the play offs. Should still be ok though.
  • Looking good for all 3 points with 15 mins left, and then conceded 2 goals in 5 mins, and then Staines hit the post late on. 2 points dropped, but no harm done with only Salisbury only getting a point.

A lot of banter occurring on and off the pitch as well.

How many go up in that league?

  • Only the champs go up, then 1 through the play offs

4 go down from conference. Does a team from the south have to play a team from the north for promotion?
  • 2 from each go up, Norfolk, Champions and Play Off winners.

Silly me I forgot there would be two champions.
  • Welling and some Northern lot!

Welling conceded in the 80th and 84th minute tonight to draw 2-2.

Salisbury equalised in the 91st minute.

Time to bite those fingernails, you Wings!
  • This has all the hallmarks of a Hobbins stitch up...

  • We need em to come up for a local derby. Webbedfeet are as good as dead now.
Big step up to our league, the full time teams fitness can tell. Also the finances are worlds apart. We have done amazingly well to be where we are this season. Didnt deserve last nights defeat to the fish men either.
  • Who is Hobbins? Wellings chairman is websdale and always has been?

If you are being sincere with this question Danny the Hobbins brothers ran Welling United as a local junior side in the Eltham and District League in the sixties. One of the brothers Graham sadly passed away in 2007 and their late father Sydney who formed the Wings for his sons, played for Charlton. Not sure what Barry is up to these days. Edit: Wiki says Club Secretary and groundsman.

Thank you. So who is complaining that he doesn't want them to go up due to it costing too much?

    Pass.
  • Welling and some Northern lot!

Chester have already won the Conference North.

And hopefully FC Halifax will follow them up via the play offs.

  • Can Welling refuse promotion if they finish top? (or win the play offs)
  • Why would they do that?

  • Someone has alluded to a senior figure at the club not wanting to be promoted for financial reasons.

  • Load of cobblers. In the old days always stories about things occuring but not now.

  • Suspect you're right. But hypothetically, can you turn down a promotion?
  • Who is it who people are suggesting? Websdale?
  • promotion will seen them more financially stable for a couple of seasons having spoke to a mate of mine who sponsors them, at that level they get some games covered live on TV.

They could have some decent games next season

What like we should have had this season :-0
  • Ok they'll have to spend more money on travelling but surely that is offset by higher income from the league, sponsorship and bigger crowds.
  • I don't know how some Conference teams manage .. e.g. Dartford travel to Gateshead to play before a 'crowd' of about 250. There is a lot of money being pumped into small clubs ... the expenses are huge, especially as many clubs have gone full time pro

Plenty of talk in the bar at salisbury last saturday On this issue.

Hotel and coach costs will probably dent the budget spend for incoming players.

  • Good luck to the Wings this afternoon. A win today and Salisbury fail to win means promotion and the title is theirs.
  • Anyone know a good place to park near the ground? Seem to remember that a lot of the local roads have parking restrictions.
