Thanks for that Algarve. Instead of a lovely 3pm Saturday KO & a 20,000 crowd.
We now have a 12.00 Sunday KO & a 15,000 crowd. Smashing.
The Valley will be like a morgue, with most people half asleep, like I said it would be when games are switched to midday or 5.15 KO's.
Oh & we'll play shite & probably lose

Does the club have no input on which games are televised? There is no train service to/from Charlton on Sunday 4th but there is on Saturday 3rd. Surely somebody has access to this information? I'd be interested to hear what 'process' is undertaken in selecting and agreeing to games televised by m"rd0ch's repugnant organ.2

There are no trains that day from London to Charlton, only buses from Lewisham and New Cross.1

Millwall, possibly? The club got itself in a bit of a problem in 2013 because it started specifying "gold" games at the start of the season, partly I think because they sell hospitality earlier than tickets and the prices were linked. The problem is that individual fixtures can be overtaken by circumstances, such as TV, and as far as ticket purchasers are concerned there is no benefit to knowing in August that Leeds in December will be premium priced.ForeverAddickted said:

I think the revenue benefit of the whole "gold" match thing (which was my experiment in 2012/13, so I'm not deriding the concept) is debatable and hinges on the away end selling out (or nearly) to stack up, but Fulham only brought 1,600 last season anyway. You don't really want to give people an extra excuse not to come when the game's on TV.

Sky have to show each team at least once at home, so our one appearance this season was always going to be at The Valley.0

Please bear in mind, you can still go down the pub and watch it on TV if attendance in person is really impossible. Mind you, you might have to scrap with armchair scousers, as the last 15 minutes will be up against their little local difficulty.0 -
Unbelievable, finally confirmed a weekend free from work and other commitments so i can get to the Valley for the first time this season and its the weekend of the Fulham game.0

It should be made a '£10' game, fill the ground so it looks better on TV - that will encourage fans watching the game to come to the Valley... Loads of empty seats will just make people stay away8

There's good reason for Sky to choose that game - it's a London derby. All of our games are 3pm on a Saturday, to get it on TV it HAS to change to a time nobody here wants (5pm or Sunday). Sure, that means home game supporters get messed about, but are people saying it's completely fair to do that to another club so we can be on TV away instead?
As I keep saying, there's an imbalance that needs attention, and we can do something about that given time to do it. But to moan about not being on TV, than moan EVEN MORE when we get a game announced is really silly. It's not ideal, it is frustrating - but I'm not sure what people want the most here. To be left alone by Sky, or to get on the TV and accept that means changes to the fixtures.
And more importantly, if the team keeps performing, we will end up being on TV more than the average, because there'll be subplots, which is what really appeals to the programme makers. From my time many years ago working with the sports team, the producers were always looking for angles to help write scripts and produce openers/ closers. It's much easier to do those things when you have a subject beyond 'two teams playing for three points' - And a team at the top of the table has more of a story to tell than one in the middle.17
