No manager will get success at Charlton whilst the owner cashes in on our best players at the first opportunity. I am sure he still dictates who plays so any manager has to fashion the team accordingly. I cannot see us ever developing a competitive squad whilst he pulls the strings.
To him, Karl is just another employee. Roland still makes all the decisions IMO. Just look what the owner has done to Sint-Truiden. He has shown he is not interested in footballing success and has imposed his community ideas and developed his commercial interests with shops and hotels to maximise his investment. The football team just happens to still be there using the facilities still on site.
My only hope is he will find Charlton an unnecessary headache as he approaches retirement and will look to end his involvement with us before it is too late for a new owner to administer the kiss of life and restore our club once more to one we can be proud of.9 -
In my mind I've defended Karl so far and given him the benefit of the doubt. But in that post match interview he's said he can't do anything. It's like going for a job and being asked how you can develop yourself and others and you say you don't know. That ain't gonna get you the job and this sums up why I've lost faith in him. He's either shot himself in the foot or he actually wants out.15

He looks lost, confused and in need of help. The sort of help you would get from a decent back room team but more importantly from a CEO who knew what help he needs.
With Curbs, you could always tell that PV was ready to offer help and advice, but it really looks (to me) as if he is just left to get on with it but doesn't know how to anymore.17 -
I think I'm with you mate, it took a long time for me to warm to Karl - but ultimately I seem to be feeling more sorry for the fecker than ever. His initial aim of bringing the fans and the owners together seemed deluded and straight out of the PR playbook, I figured he was going to be nothing more than a mouthpiece for the owners. And, to be fair, he has been. He's got no support, and he needs it more than ever. Going in to the interview and saying there's "nothing" he can do is a shocking admission.5 -

In that interview Karl explicitly says that we need to forget about the owners and think about the real problem: not winning matches on the pitch. Interestingly Karl also mentions "we played 4-4-2"; almost as though he'd read some of the ridicule he's got on here for his tactics recently..
On the off chance that you are reading Karl, I want to bring up a few bits about your interview.1. You claim that the biggest issue is neither the owners or the fans, but the players. Quite rightly you go on to say "It can't have been the 6 or 7 managers.".
It's clear that - quite characteristically - he's got more to say, but when he's talking about "massive issues" "that [he's] never seen before".. then clearly the blame goes beyond the squad. Surely those who scout and dictate transfer policy - two issues that we know the ownership plays a heavy part in, and two issues that he's indirectly blamed - need to take some share of the blame?
Well this was obvious, mate. Anyone with a bit of common sense could've told you that the probability of getting 6 or 7 managers in, and them all failing, is pretty damn low. Unfortunately you didn't seem to realise that, and when you arrived you were very quick to point the finger at Slade weren't you?
2. You argue that the issue "can't be investment either"; well if you're claiming that money has been pumped in to the team, doesn't this make our plight even more shambolic? You're telling us that 6 or 7 managers have been all been given investment and they've all failed? Does that not suggest that the issues go a little bit beyond both the managers and the players?
3. Even when you're blaming the players, you're contradicting yourself; you praise Jacko and claim you want Solly back in the squad. Well those are the only two players who have been there throughout all 6 or 7 managers! The other players, the apparent problematic ones, are all much newer - and none of them would've played any part in the downfall of our previous managers.
There's no escaping the root cause of this, Karl. The ownership has been far to hands-on with scouting and recruitment, and they've got you the very players you can't work with. It's a completely inescapable fact that the ownership is the issue.14 -

Not a mention of the real root cause of our problems during the interview, which is of course at the level above Robinson. Publicly criticising subordinates is a sign of poor management. It's the manager's job to get the underperforming 40% onside and it sounds like he can't do that.4

Said it on Saturday, there was a point in the first half where Watt, Magennis and Jackson went to "warm up" and proceeded to kneel on the floor by the corner flag for a good 10-15 minutes, doing sod all but talking and laughing with eachother. Robbo had to send Crofts over to get them to come back to the dugout.
I mused at the time with my old man that they were probably talking about Robinson and didn't want to be heard.
We all know about Watt and his disruptive influence, and Magennis hasn't looked interested for a while now, so I wonder what's gone on recently.
Nothing about the way Jorge plays suggests he doesn't want to be here or a lack of desire, however I do think Rudd has been lacking in effort at times, and as a loanee I guess he doesn't care anyway.0 -

I want to believe in him, I really do, but I fear it's more for my love of the club than it is a love of KR.

Robinson is just the latest Head Chef to over promise & under deliver at Chez Meire - the god awful restaurant we have, where The Valley used to be in SE7. After Chef Slade somewhat steadied the fast sinking eaterie but bored the few remaining punters to death with his dull, bland cooking - in came our latest hero. Promising jam tomorrow he has been left with egg on his chubby face after falling out with his staff - pissing off everyone from the experienced Sous Chef to the most junior of waiters. All this while whoring himself around to every cookery program on the Food Network.
So what next for Chez Meire will they stick with the Scouse Gordon Ramsey or bring back one of the knackered old Chefs previously booted out - perhaps the egg timer is ringing again for Carol Fry?13 -

Assuming Robinson probably talks more crap on a day to day basis instead of just 10mins in front of the press.....assuming that....
If I was a Charlton player I would just be thinking this guy is a complete clown.

I think it's mostly a vicious circle though and a large chunk of our losses are not directly the managers fault.
He does not help matters or himself at all though by openly giving himself away to the press.
Too emotional. Just politely say we were a bit shit and everyone's disappointed, then let loose in the dressing room.
If the players show signs of disrespect then keep it private until the times right.1 -

He has managed to take hold of a fairly decent defence and completely f it up.
Called it from day one, the bloke is a chancer and a proven failure.
His tactics are laughable, his man management skills from the Brent school of management. I mean Jackson at left back did he not learn his lesson from earlier in the season.
But when all is said and done and we are relegated either this or next year, the fools at the top will tell us that they have learned from their previous errors.
But more alarmingly there will be supporters that will still believe them and will want to give them one more chance. You know who you are you bellends.12 -

I'm not one for kicking out managers. We need to build again which means backing a manager through the bad times. Exactly what we needed to do with Parkinson and didn't. However, this bloke needs to go and go today. He is starting to look like a complete disaster and we simply cannot get relegated. Robinson simply has to go so that relegation can be avoided. Give Rowett a 5 year deal on top money.4

Let's take away ownership, and lack of funds, a few days before a mass protest in Belgium, let's take all Blame away from Roland, and whilst we're at it shift Blame away from me, This clown might luck his way to the end of the season, then no money will come in, no players will come in and this circus carries on, this whole fucking lot need to go, I doubt any of them "thank there lucky stars" to play for a club rotten to the core owned by some crusty Belgian prat.6
