Lennie Lawrence was an outsider and took us to the top division with a lot of ownership problems and little money.

I can't remember the context of a conversation on the pre-match with Minto and Curbs but I do remember Minto saying 'oh you're not leaving the commentary' and Curbs saying 'no but watch this space'. I'm pretty certain it will be Curbs.

Surely Curbs is more intelligent than being that blatant about it?

Michael Beale is a local boy and good mates with Scott Parker, played in the academy but left after a falling out! His married to a girl that was in my year at school. Coached a few of my mates as kids and they still rave about him as a coach and as a person. Would be excited if he came and I’m sure his missus would be happy to come back to South East London after stints in Liverpool, Brazil and now Glasgow!

    Yeah we have @esseffect
Have you not been reading the thread?

Maybe you don’t recognise the names being mentioned due to limited football knowledge.

Or is there another reason you cannot see the suggestions?

I don't know who I want but I know the type of manager I want.

Agree with @Garrymanilow's point on page 3 - we should build up the club in a way that means we have a style of play from the youth team to the first team and we hire managers and sign players to fit that. When the manager goes we know exactly what you're looking for. It gives you a better chance of continuing to progress as there's no need for a complete rebuild.

    1. Works towards a vision to play exciting positive football, but able to find the right balance to win games. Not a Slade or Parkinson 'dinsosaur', and not a Robinson or Peeters overplaying tippy tappy possession football deep in their own half.

    2. Tactically adaptable, I don't want a manager who stubbornly sticks to one formation or one way of playing no matter what as we saw with Robinson, Peeters and Luzon.

    3. A longer term appointment, someone who can grow with the club (but realistically that's with about 3/4 years in mind to begin with, not 5-10).

    4. Willing to give youth a chance and capable of developing them. That includes using the academy and signing hungry younger players with first team experience. A good squad balance with plenty of youth and energy but backed up with a core of reliable older players.

    5. Not one of our former managers and I include Curbs and Powell in that (but not for or against someone with a Charlton connection).

    6. Not someone from the managerial merry-go-around, including 'big' names like Mark Hughes.

    7. They can motivate, they're positive and determined but also realistic. Not deluded or arrogant.

    8. I'm also open to looking abroad, but I feel it's important they 'get' League 1 - they need a good understanding of the type of football you can play at this level. The important thing to get promoted back to the Championship and improve the style from there.

    9. Someone who 'fits' our club - they share and buy in to Sandgaard's vision, work well with Roddy and staff in other areas, scouting/coaching/medical etc.

    10. I'm not completely against someone unproven as manager if they tick enough of the boxes, as Powell did when he was appointed.

Looking forward to seeing who TS appoints, really not sure who it can be - not convinced it'll be any of the current favourites.

And of course Jimmy Seed was a complete outsider

As I said, I can't remember the context of the conversation. He said 'watch this space ' whilst having a laugh. I don't think it was particularly blatant as no-one thought Bow was going at that time. Bow and Curbs are close - they will have talked. My money's on him.

Michael Beale reminds me of Steve Cooper at Swansea, and Neil Critchley at Blackpool, who both made their name in youth coaching at a high level, and had minimal playing careers. Indeed all 3 have been youth coaches at Liverpool

Curbs is currently 7/1 on SkyBet, and surely a good bet, always comments on "us" and "we" with Scott on VP, still feel he could do a great job with us and has management experience in him, albeit he has been out for some time, he still loves the club.

You are correct in that Lennie never played for us but I think he was on the coaching staff before becoming manager.

To me Russell Martin seems a bit one dimensional. Yes his team plays lovely stuff, but the league table shows them in 15th, having scored 50 goal but also let in 50 goals.

We’ll see! Sandgaard does strike me as the sort that wants to bring back the kind of family atmosphere (not sure if that’s the right way to describe it) and Curbs would create that sort of atmosphere so I could see it happening. I don’t think it would be a great idea, mind.

It won’t be Wilder - I have a feeling the green and white hoops are calling.

It won’t be Curbs - too long out of day to day management. Possibly DoF with young manager (possibly JJ).

Howe is not out of the question, despite all those years in the Prem. We are a bigger club than Bournemouth, and if the package is right. Wouldn’t need to move either.

I basically have no idea, as long as it’s not Pulis or that big nosed stripey c*nt.

    So, long shot - Howe.

Curbs was having 'banter'with Minto and was talking about appearing in another Paddy Power advert, that was the context.

The statement Thomas made saying he wanted to appoint a new man by the end of the week would seem to rule out any application process. It’s either that Thomas is already speaking with a chosen candidate and is finalising the deal or he’s going to appoint internally. Possibly the latter should the former fall through.
You must forget Meire did 50000000000 interviews in 24 hrs once.

We got Guy Luzon as a result.

Jason Pearce is normally fairly active on social media + he’s captain. Surprising (possibly telling) that he hasn’t made any comment yet.

    Wilder or Howe please.
one of these would be ideal - if not, somebody who has a proven record of getting promoted from league 1 (on more than one occassion and ideally, with more than 1 club)
