After reading his name this morning and seeing that its apparently close i was abit disappointed but the more i have sat and thought about it and seen what the mans about his past success and being a very likable character i actually think this could be a very shrewd and good appointment by thomas
if you add JJ into the equation to continue his learning aswell as knowing the players already and having that rapport with us fans i think it could work3 -

Initially felt seriously underwhelmed seeing Adkins linked. I still think that I'd take Jacko (with Curbs involved in some capacity) over Adkins.
However, I am coming round to the idea and I think it's unfair to compare him to the likes of Slade.
Still apprehensive, mind, that as good as those Southampton stats are, that Southampton team had Lambert, Lallana, Chamberlain and Fonte to name but a few.
It looks like fans from his previous clubs seem to like him, and by all accounts he's a positive bloke and after a sustained period of doom and gloom both on and off the pitch, maybe we need someone like him at this moment in time.
You never know, it might just work. Or it won't, in true Charlton style...
Either way, it's hard to get excited when reading the name Nigel Adkins. However, if Thomas decides to go with him then I'm more for it than I thought I would be when I first read his name.

It will be interesting to compare how we each get on. Whilst his potential appointment may be met by trepidation from a number of Charlton fans, I think there are plenty of positives to an appointment of Nigel Adkins.
- Most importantly, he has a proven track record for doing exactly what we need to do right now - get out of League 1 and back into the Championship.
- He's done that with a couple of clubs, showing that this was not a complete fluke.
- He's got plenty of experience, all the way up to the PL.
- His management style suggests he likes his teams to play attacking football.
- He has brought multiple young players through in the past and is not afraid to bring in academy players.
- Plenty of clubs/fans still seem to speak well of him.
I'd be satisfied with getting Nigel Adkins, and even more so if JJ stays. Howe and Wilder are out of reach, in reality. Laudrup feels way too wildcard. I don't think Powell or Curbs are the right choice either, with both of them being out of this kind of job for so long.3 -
As I’ve said elsewhere my preference would be JJ with Curbs as assistant but would have no problem at all with Adkins. What he did with Scunthorpe was nothing sort of miraculous. Promotion to the Championship twice, two Wembley outings, playing very decent football and developed a whole load of players as well (Billy Sharp for one). Frankly if he can do all that with Scunthorpe he’ll do a very good job with us. I’ve no problem with him as manager.

I for one trust TS thoughts and plans. If it turns out to be Adkins then so be it. I, like some others have said, think that TS has been looking around for a few weeks, based solely on how quick LB resigned and then got the City role less than 24 hours later, I think it has been known LB wanted to go for awhile. If Roddy has been speaking with TS and giving advice that's good, but I still think TS will make his own mind up.
We just have to trust and see what happens, but whoever gets the gig will get my support.3 -

Lee opted to go to Birmingham so Danny Cowley gets the Portsmouth job.
Also Paul Cook took the vacant Ipswich job last week.
Meaning that three of the clubs trying to get promotion have all changed managers in the past week.1 -

Adkins is just a bit Partridge isn't he? Can't say I'm massively thrilled by the prospect. I can get the logic of a steady old hand to just get us out of this division before we can really rebuild the club in the Championship (but wouldn't even really pick him for that), but that seems to contradict what Sandgaard said in terms of having someone in the project for the long haul, which I can't really see him doing.0

I'm reserving judgment on the new manager until they actually get appointed - things can still change or fall through at the last minute, or any of the parties involved have a last minute change of heart or some other spanner thrown in the collective works.
That said, I think whoever Sandgaard chooses should get a chance to actually prove themselves before we decide how whelmed to be. TS' decision making so far seems to be good more often than not so his judgement is the one that matters right now.
Someone like Adkins wouldn't necessarily give me a "WOW" moment but a steady Eddie with experience is not the end of the world.0 -
