Nigel Adkins would be fine by me. His Scunthorpe team were very easy on the eye, as were
Southampton.
I thought he had been out of the game for longer than he actually has, and I had also forgotten that he decided to quit Hull, as opposed to being fired. There are also quite a lot of positive comments from their fans at the time, who blamed the owners for making it impossible to manage their club.
Ultimately he passes my main yardstick test for our next manager, which is that he likes his teams to get the ball down and play.

I'm not knocking those achievements, he is a good manager and I have wanted him at Charlton before, but that team had David Meylor, Jarod Bowen, Fikayo Tomori, Tod Kane, Seb Larson, Abel Hernandez and Michael Hector to name a few. We could appoint worse, but if we are going away from a Charlton connection we could go for someone a bit more inspiring0

there was a time I’d of been really pleased with Adkins, so I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I’m certainly not dismayed by the idea. I think we all get a bit over romantic in football,(especially when there’s custard in the offing!). So as much as I’d like to see our legends take over and be successful, I just wouldn’t look forward to the outcome if they wasn’t. I’m happy with someone from the outside for the time being.1

It's a slightly boring appointment imo if it does happen but I am warming to the idea a bit more the more I think about it. His record is decent and he’s never done a bad job wherever he’s been. I was hoping for a younger more exciting appointment but I think that’s just because expectations have risen since TS came in.9

Likewise I've come around to the Adkins idea a bit more now, looking at it as a footballing project he could be a good appointment it getting the footballing philosophy laid down along with Roddy - much like how Saints have been operating in recent years.
And if JJ is still on the coaching staff then that's some good experience for him to work with and learn off.
Still would prefer a Nathan Jones/ Beale type appointment though. I think. Maybe. Yes?!?4 -

With regards to Adkins I mentioned I'd heard mumurs of him last night on here which set off the initial chain reaction. Appreciate I've never been ITK before but I thought it was worth sharing, happily take the stick if I'm wrong.
In terms of the source, I obviously can't say who it is but it's someone I met around the time of the takeover. I didn't think there was anything worth sharing before because there wasn't really any info that hadn't already been mentioned.
I was underwhelmed when I first heard the name but on reflection I'm optimistic for our future.

But you deleted your first comment that said you thought he'd be worth a shout. You then later posted you'd heard a rumour that we are in for him. Really interested in the answer to this. As much as we all love Charlton and may see us the greatest club in the world, we have to accept that the rest of the footballing world most likely doesn’t. We’ve been predominantly a third tier club for a long time now so to suggest we’d attract a manager of Howe’s calibre or Wilder’s is fanciful. Our love for the club is blinding us to the reality of the true situation. Personally my heart would be inspired by JJ getting the gig because I absolutely adore the bloke but my head says it’s most likely not the right time for him. Hopefully the day will come when we can attract a manager who will get our pulses racing but for now I just want us to reestablish ourselves as a Championship club and as meh as it may seem Adkins has the credentials to do that.14 -
I’m slightly confused why people are so underwhelmed by Adkins. Has he done anything to be so underrated?. Who would people be overwhelmed to see come in based on where we are at the moment. If it’s him like everyone else that has come in, in the past I will support until given good reason not too. I feel like there a lot of presumptive comments being made without much gravitas. If it’s him then he’s here to do his best for Charlton and hopefully get results. Which will make us all happy........mostly!!🤣12

IMO JJ is not ready for the top job and could do with learning from another established manager to get an appreciation of different styles to management, tactics and approaches to handling the players.JJ as a number 2 to Adkins could be a great move all round...18
