Well, I’m glad I don’t work for some of you lot, ditching JFC would be an awful thing to do. He deserves a lot better than that, irrelevant of footballing ability.

Not for one minute would the Club just ditch JFC. At the very least he’d get a further year on the same terms as before which I’d agree with as on the one hand he got injured whilst under contract so we have a duty to do right by him whilst on the other hand he is injured and we are unsure when he will be back. Whether he accepts that is another matter.

So we give him a one year deal.  He recouperates and then buggers off?.....

He should get a 1y extension on less wages, with it triggering an increase to current wages and further year extension if he plays x amount of games next season

He should only get an extension if he is going to contribute towards us getting promoted this season. If not then he is depriving us of spending money on someone that will.

Last season's POTY, played in the last promoted team, has Championship experience and still only 27-28, so should recover nicely with sensible, timely medical treatment.

Yeah, he's definitely got a contribution to make. Maybe he won't be the star performer or the big name but we need players like him.

Cool, sign him up then and I look forward to his contribution next season.

If you are an established footballer let’s say 27 - 28 years old and have had a league one career and live in the north of the country it’s quite possible that you have a million pound house. The prospect of moving to London or the nicest parts of the SE would mean a significant trading down in property. I can fully understand why London is not universally attractive, particularly to players with young families.

You can get a very, very nice house in the north without spending a million on it. Three quarters of that can get you something palatial to leave you 250G to spunk on bread and bitches.
@NapaAddick we turn to you for the final word on house prices
My wife and I bought our current house (4 bed 2.5 bath) in late 2017 for $835k and it’s now worth $925k. I thought we overpaid when we bought it but the current price is bonkers. Feeling a bit like a mania in real estate.

I plan to turn my home in to an NFT and sell it for $72.5 million. That number has always worked well for me.
Do you know what I thought to myself, forget the fact we hadn’t signed anyone, we could do with a good house analogy, and boy have you delivered!!
I want to know how 2.5 bathrooms works?
@DA9 i thought we had that but it turned out I was pissing in the wardrobe

No, I don't know what it means either.
Thomas is bringing Nimer back into the fold and wants him to feel at home. This is great news.

Former Danish international Ebbe Sand is joining as Director of Football.

He’s planning a big reveal with a new signing jumping out of each container.

An interest development but sort of undermines what JC said about the Pompey keeper 🤷‍♂️

Blimey, Adkins starting a juicy rumour with this quote “If Ben goes to Real Madrid then I’ve got no qualms about playing Ashley.”

If Ben Amos does stay, and AMB goes out on loan (which to be fair he needs to for the reasons Adkins states) we will need a proper back up keeper.

Not sure any of the youth keepers are ready yet to step up to the first team, even as back up.

Adkins is being positive towards Amos.
It wouldn't be good for Amos confidence, or our chances of him signing a new contract, if Adkins said I want Amos to sign a new contract, even though I'm not certain that he'll be our number 1.

In terms of Cousins, I would have him back if he is the same player who left us. He had limitations, most do, but he was a good player. I haven't been following his career closely enough to know what he is like now but I'm sure Gallen and Adkins will have better intelligence in which to make a decision if there is a decision to be made.

Seems a waste of wages having an experienced keeper as backup when you can sign a keeper on emergency loan

Yet you then take the risk of there being an emergency Goalkeeper thats good enough.

No wonder Real could only get Ancelotti to take the job if that's the level of their transfer targets this summer  ;)

Also, if your keeper gets injured in a game then you need someone to bring on. You really don't want that to be a 17 year old academy player. Same if he gets sent off and then suspended. You always need a decent back up keeper. It's also good for competition, players can get complacent if they know they're playing no matter what

I would say we are in the market for a back up keeper what ever happens then, but not a number 1.

I would be more happy risking got getting one if Amos signs.  A player of Amos's experience is less likely to become unselectable, due to confidence/form, a player of AMB's could.

Also AMB has a history of concussions that you need to consider.

Considering the last two years it's been our sub goalkeeper who's been out for sizeable periods of time injured maybe we need a third experienced keeper as well then just in case

Agreed, you might have to sign a keeper on a Friday to play on the Saturday, someone who doesn't know his teammates. There will be plenty of half decent keepers out there on a free to come in and compete with Amos. Definite right move for AMB too, hopefully a League 2 club is interested.

Lots of talk about sending AMB out on loan and getting a back up for Amos, AMB is 22 years old, and surely has reached an age to be considered more than a constant "out on loan", what this does to the lads confidence is unknown, must be very disheartening

Phillips was around 22 / 23 before he got his opportunity - Goalkeepers always seem to wait a bit longer for their debuts than other positions

There’s lots of talk because Adkins has now publicly said AMB will go on loan if Amos stays and if Amos leaves then AMB is our number one next season. I don’t see why that’s bad for his confidence, either way he has been praised by his manager and his manager wants him to be playing first team football next season.

He's played what, 30 games at professional level? He's 22 later this month and has plenty of time in the game, especially as a keeper. I'm sure his confidence is just fine if he's being told how promising he is. At the moment though it is just that, potential. A season in League 2 will be the making of him.

It's so difficult, and different, with goalkeepers.  You can't bring them on for 20 minutes every now and then.  Start them for 2 or 3 games then bring them back out again.  Like you would with an out feild player.

In an ideal world Phillips would probably have spent 2 seasons out on loan then came back as our No1 when Amos first left.

It hasn't helped AMB that the last 2 seasons have both gone to the last game, with a lot at stake.
