Clearly we have recruited two or three good players but our failure at this stage to secure another striker, left back and back up keeper is shocking.
If we are to seriously challenge at the top end of the table then this was a minimum.
We are now somewhat desperate and may be held to fandom by some clubs, players and agents.
I hope it turns out better than my pessimistic view!
Striker and left back yes, backup GK not really an issue - you can still bring them in on emergency loans and there will be free agents out there.
I’m aware of the emergency loan situation, I just feel we should be proactive and not wait until it happens. If Mac gets injured early on in a game then we potentially lose a game because we haven’t got experienced back up.
Why wait? You’re then slightly desperate and surely you’d want to integrate any player asap?
It seems shortsighted and neglectful to me.
How many minutes, in the league, has our second choice keeper played over the last 5 years?
    Now you've done it..

Rumour on another forum that we're interested in taking QPRs Charlie Kelman on loan.

They signed him from Southend last year, he's a 19 year old striker and had scored a few goals in Southend's first team. Had been suggested as a possible signing on here before he went to QPR.

American u20 international. QPR signed him to initially play for their u23s so no surprise he's not yet broken into their first team.
QPR signing Andre Gray on loan today so that could free him up.
I know it's taboo to write a player off before they've kicked a ball or even signed, but if the pool we're fishing in is that of a striker who has 0 goals in 14 senior appearences since the end of the 2019/2020 season, we have fallen quite far and clearly have very little desire to climb the leagues.
If Kelman is a serious option I'd rather give Davison or Burstow the opportunity.

LB is the major one for me. Please not Purrington as our number one option, really don't rate him..

There's positions that need strengthening far more urgently than GK, as well as the issue of budgeting.

Plus until/unless McG does pick up an injury any keeper will know they're second choice and on the bench. It will be hard to find a quality keeper to come in knowing they won't play.

So for some clarity, are we as Charlton fans calling today transfer deadline day? Or just Tuesday?

If we don’t sign a left back today questions will be asked of Jed Roddy considering his son is the only other player in that position.
He's not even been on the bench as a back up to Gunter. He's an under 23 player.

Hopefully it's way more of a Deadline Day than a Tuesday. Ideally I'd like 3 in but not sure how realistic that is

If the Arter deal is off I'd say 2 in, both loans, Forward and a leftback.

The improved performance in both Morgan and Watson might see us leave off the CM until Jan and see if we can get a perm in on a better deal (Lowery) etc.
A midfield of Watson and Morgan would be a disaster against any other than relegation bound teams like Crewe.

Mmmh suddenly the realisation of leaving our transfer policy to the final day does not feel great.
Too be fair the club haven't left it all to the final day as we've signed a number of players already

And to be fair we can judge the window more fully when it's closed.

1 thing I don't need to do is to wait until 11.01 to judge how the summer rebuild has gone.

You mean like relegation bound Hull and Lincoln last season?

And enhances the Kirk signing - based on that great piece of analysis from the Crewe fan after we signed him, Kirk is best with a dynamic LB behind him - God knows what he’s thought of Gunter so far!
  • Says it all now that the SLP have to quote Nixon as no one at the club passes them stories now

1 decent cross doesn't make him 'excellent' at LB

    he isn't a LB
Also the player he was marking was very poor.

Pretty much confirms the SLP and Cawley aren’t getting the info like they did before.

Definitely but that's been well established and reasoned for a while now.

I'm more concerned about Gunter as our alternative. even a second choice who is left footed and adventurous would offer something to the squad!

But Nixon has tweeted rumours that the SLP have not reported on or dismissed either.

Maybe there's some truth in this one. Which is how I see it.

I guess historically they'd dismiss it or stay quiet rather than just report a rumour from Nixon.
That said it's quite poorly structured might be an intern or something hired for deadline day.

Sorbate Thomas, remember him ? Boreham Wood. They wanted 2k or so. What ever it was we offered less. Eventually Huddersfield paid that in January.  This season 4 assists and a goal in 5 Championship games this season.

Looks like a good player on the  highlights
We were interested. The moment a Championship club came in we didn’t have a chance.

At the time we had a wage cap and got in Liam Miller who done very well for us in the short time he was here.

A shame we didn’t get him, but we didn’t stand a chance as soon as Huddersfield were serious.

We bid in the first window  but didn't  think he was worth the amount  that Boreham Wood said they wanted. Cawley reported on 16/10/2020 Charlton had made a six figure bid.  Borehamwood  told SG what would secure him. They offered to accept stage payments.

    Huddersfield brought him on 13/01/21.

So it is rubbish to say we didn't stand a chance once a Championship side showed up.
Not really. Us making an offer doesn't mean that the player will accept it, nor does it preclude another club making an offer. So if there was Championship interest, most players are going to pass on a League One move in favour of the increased wages.
You are entirely wrong.  You said we stood no chance once a Championship team bid. Now you are trying to argue he may have turned us down himself.  If so there would  have been no Championship team in sight.  Stop inventing nonsense . It is not an argument on a fact but a mere supposition.
I literally have no idea what the fuck you are on about. Firstly, I never said that we had no chance - someone else did. Secondly, the player turned is down specifically because there WAS a Championship team in sight. It's really not rocket science, though I think basic arithmetic is probably beyond you based on most of what you post.

You've got either a lot of nerve, no sense if irony or both of you of all people are accusing anyone of making up nonsense.
Dear God,   It is clear  we could have bought him if we  offered the sellers fee. Your conjecture is a supposition about a non event .

The Championship bid was months later, not even the same calendar year
What does "It is not Rocket Science mean" ?  Only rocket science is rocket science.

We bid , it was knocked  back with a price that would do it. We didn't bid again  but for some strange reason you think a Championship team outbid us . You are f***I g wrong so stop making none arguments on the subject.

I’d agree with you if it was Cawley publishing the article.

It’s transfer deadline day, to me it looks like a business decision to post more rumours in order to drive traffic to the website.

You've already got your first... We'll be allowed to watch the Crawley game on stream tonight
