Interesting quote from Louis Mendez in the above article saying and I quote
"I know he was disappointed with how the transfer window went this summer"
Which backs up the rumours that Nigel was not involved with selecting/buying the players.1 -

He had a super Sub Chuks Aneke, and our Canadian winger did track back most of the time. Plus Gilbey was all action and Stockley made the most of indifferent passing and was effective.

Personally was neither here nor there with him but obviously anyone that positive and happy is not really my cup of tea but his end to the season would never have led any sane person to foresee this debacle , nice man but had to go (4 weeks back)
Jacko is the natural free hit … give him till Christmas and have a back up plan in place if it goes tits up .
palace cruising in the top flight 8/9 seasons in
scum 3 points from play offs in second tier
billy smarts 4 points from safety in the 3rd tier of English football , what a time to be alive

I love Johnnie Jackson. One of the players who made me feel really connected to Charlton for the first tme since the Premier League days after our horrible downward spiral and phase of loan mercenaries, journeyman and non-league compeitition winners. That 11/12 season is still my favourite one to think back on, and he's central in some of my best Charlton memories since then. His passion is undeniable. All I want though is for a Charlton tea to actually have patterns of play. I've no doubt that Jackson will wring every last drop of sweat out of these as a minimum, but I just hope he can develop a system of play that is more than 'try hard, kick well'. We don't know what his system is and it will need time to bed in, but I'd like to see more considered games and fewer results like his one Bristol Rovers game, where we had to battle back from the precipice to get a result. I'd love to hear what Jacko's tactical philosophy is going to be

Got to remember with Bristol Rovers, he only had one day to prepare ahead of that game.
Sunderland again, he's only really had a few days working with the team - So I'd be surprised if we saw massive differences this weekend to what we've been seeing before... He should then have a week on the training ground, unless Sandgaard gets someone else, ahead of the Doncaster game so hopefully we'll then see his own style being implemented a little bit more.2 -
I've just got a great gut feeling about Jacko. I really feel he could be our manager for many years.
My heart really wants it to work out, my head is cautiously optimistic. If he carries the pride & passion he had in his playing days into managing the club, we're in for some good times.
Come on Jacko!!!14 - Sponsored links:

Genuinely ask, as know we've seen Jackson in the dugout for the EFL Trophy games, with Adkins in the stands. But is that definitely the squad / tactics that Jackson has picked himself. Or has it been the Adkins way, with Jackson just given the opportunity to lead with decisions in-game and teamtalks etc.1 -

Play it simple. Defend the box etc...stuff they have coached on all there careers then have next week to implement his own ideas.
Id take a point in this game of course but it would be nice to see go through the motions and potentially go for the jugular if we smell blood.1 -

Yet here you are trying to say he hasn't had enough time with the team. How much fucking time does he need. Things may change a bit but Jacksin us not completely new to this squad!
JJ can put his 2 pence in all he wants but in the end, Adkins will have final say.
He will have his own ideas on how to do things.
Give him a break in the meantime will you.7 -

But he's basically been working to the Managers instructions hasnt he? - Apart from a few potential game.
Like he's said himself (quote below) - Its going to take time for that system to get through, you cant expect him to have turned up for training yesterday, to explain how they're going to operate going forward and for that to simply be the case!!

I am entirely comfortable with this appointment. In fact in the current circumstances it is probably the only viable way forward.
I referenced elsewhere to operate within the current regime I simply do not see anyone with a magic wand out there to make any short or medium term impact. When TS says there is nobody out there. In terms of what he wanted to do he means it. It is something he has to revisit. The problems here are internal. There are very clear lessons to be learned across the entire football management executive.
Ease back on the committee recruitment approach, reevaluate the black box algorithms, let the one club culture take a back seat. The one size fits all approach to playing disciplines & styles are for better times.
This is about pulling a team together out of 25 senior pros. Nothing more - nothing less. As someone commented several months ago can we stop trying to run before we have proved we can walk.
To those who argue there are proven skillsets in the building to go beyond mid table this year. I strongly disagree. Teams are built around a functioning strong spine. It simply is not there. It doesn’t exist.
It was not there for Bowyer 2020. It was not there for Adkins and it is not there for Jackson. One or two need to step up to the plate while there is a deal of growth to be seen across four if not five individuals to start to deliver the fundamental shape, disciplines and platform from which to play.
Is the potential there? I suspect we are about to find out. Jackson and Euell are deserving of our fullest support. They have the opportunity to reset the agenda. It will not be straightforward.
I wish them well.27 - Sponsored links:

Very dignified tweet from NA and really hope he goes onto find a role he can enjoy and make an impact in.
can’t have been easy over the last few weeks, but he certainly has my respect for how he carried himself17 -
The strong spine as mentioned in Grapevine's brief post above was pivotal in our 7 matches last season when we were winning and not conceding a goal.
Amos, Inniss, JFC and Aneke (even if from the bench)
Our spine is weak and we have no backbone.
Anyone know a good Physio looking for a job ?

wmcf123 said:Leuth said:'non contributing lightweight wingers' is some Bowyer talk. At some point you have to back attacking play. Really annoyed by that phrase. Leko, CBT, even DJ really not contributed? Look at our goals and assists...
We are not really seeing this much this season. It feels like our wide players are waiting for a ball that rarely comes to them and when it does, they lack options. You hardly see them defending and it is like playing with a man down or even possibly two men down at times.
In this day and age, managers and coaches know the exact yardage a player puts in during a game and there needs to be minimum standards in this respect expected of our wide players and if they are not fit enough to meet these they have to get fitter. In the meantime we need to be solid and a bit conservative in our play and try to be more difficult to beat.2 -
''I wonder where the motivation came from during Adkins W5 D5 L1 came from last season.''
Came on the end of a run that Lee Bowyer had started, sadly Adkins motivation skills applied more to Walkers and Twitchers. Personally I never felt Adkins could put consecutive wins together in the league this season.
Shame he didn't go after the Bolton fiasco. Nice Bloke - yes. Decent Manager for us - no.
Will be OK as he's had plenty of pay-offs in the past!1 -

I wanted him to go but I found it disturbing that some sections of the fan base on social media (always the same people) gave him absolute dogs abuse and full-grown men @ing him and calling him a c**** non-stop and taking the piss out of him for walking (which he promotes for mental health). We were poor but he didn't deserve that at all so glad it finally stopped.
Good luck to him, onwards and upwards now.14 -

Jackson is and has been part of this team, Euell too.
I doubt he stood by and said, "Yes bozz, no bozz, three bags full sir. " You described him as a sheep or aged butler in that case. If so he won't be of use.
A new manager would not have his knowledge. Angry indeed !4 -
I wanted JJ to be given a chance after Bowyer left but can't deny Adkins did a decent job last season. I can't deny if he wasn't to blame for the window debacle, how he can be blamed for everything happening this season. I think we started the season as weak as I can remember and then acted in desperation.
But given that, we have ended up with some decent players and it isn't how it is framed with one manager being useless and the next being brilliant but more, you do need to make a change and change the mood. A manager losing game after game will impact on the players and sometimes you have to make a change for the sake of it and change the atmosphere and lift the pressure.
I think for that reason, Adkins should have gone after Bolton at least, but I don't hate the guy and respect that he is not solely to blame. I actually suspect he is not mainly to blame, but he still had to go and I hope JJ and JE stand up to the elements that are to blame and do what they think is right. And I hope the owner may get that and ensure they don't have any unwanted interference whatsoever in the important next couple of months.2 -
Interesting to hear his ex-team mates

The more I think about it, the happier I am with the idea of JJ taking over full time. I think its his unless the results stay exactly the same. There's no one out there I can think of who could galvanise an average squad of players like he will be able to with this lot. There is the worry of his reputation being tarnished but he has been very clear he wants the job and he knows what's at stake with that.0
