Club Statement on Discriminatory Abuse
Comments
-
Surely the whole point of the matter is we dont want any pond life / scumbag fans at any games, and we should be looking to stamp out any racism or discriminatory abuse.
Instead the point seems to be turning towards how the club have dealt with it, and is another stick to beat them with again!! - Its bad enough that the Goalkeeper kept being mocked by a good number of fans during the whole stoppage, but then its "banta"21 -

I have no idea what happened, but,it is quite difficult for the members of the public who are well behaved and just want to see the game,to point out to stewards ,troublemakers, this can lead ,and has done ,to retaliation and abuse by the individuals concerned especially if the same seats are occupied regularly. We see time and time again at away games, stewards piling in on a whim and ejecting people.Surely the stewards in the area involved must have seen or heard what was happening,or maybe there was not enough of them there.Where were the police, they seem very happy lining up in Floyd Road before and after games, but when situations occur ,in the ground,"not my job guv".This needs to be stopped, more stewards ,and a police presence all round the stadium, not just watching the game from the control area.0

SLP reporting only the original statement re the arrest and in custody0

From what I saw this is how the club dealt with it:-
1. Incident reported by the ref, club very slow in getting sufficient numera and capable stewards into the area to defuse situation and remove the culprits. As a result do we know if the club got/identified the correct people.
2. Supporrers then congregated around the bottom of the Lower Covered End to further barrack the keeper. They were not moved on. They only thing that seemed to happen was someone I presume working for the Comms department filming the game, fame over the hoardings to take a picture of this lot at the end of the game. You would have hoped this was for evidence. Probably not the case as that picture is now on Facebook so I presume grey wanted it for PR purposes. A steward is also in the picture smiling for the camera!
3. The Comms department issue a statement saying an arrest has been made and person is in custody. Good news it was dealt with? Not so the statement was false
That is why the club is getting stick.4 - Sponsored links:

Stewarding at the club seems really poor recently, from my seat yesterday I saw the lad that was completely pissed being escorted/helped out by 4 stewards, yet when the incident happened with the keeper it took ages for stewards to appear and then they just stood in front of the fans and did nothing. Even Clare try to calm things down and still the thin line of stewards did nothing. I might be mistaken but I didn't see any Old Bill during that incident either, so where were they?
In my mind there is no excuse for racist or discriminatory behaviour, yet it seems to be growing amongst some of the idiots that now follow us (or do they?).
This season, if I recall correctly, wasn't there also a bottle thrown at an opposition player from the East Stand?
I'm an old Covered End lad from back in the day and yes while we used to have a few rucks, I can't remember lobbing articles at oppo players.
Whoever said whatever was said yesterday needs to be caught, interviewed, then charged and banned for life in my opinion.
I guess the club will be fined after this incident?

What I don’t understand is that there is a little mob that sit behind the goal that are always taking the piss/ being abusive to the opposition.
The club obviously know about it but appear to do nothing, who ever is in charge of stewarding needs a kick up the arse here as they seem to have the youngest most hopeless steward placed there week after week.
Then Olly comes on here to say somebody was arrested and then later that there wasn’t.
The whole thing has once again been handled terribly by the club, once again!7 -

I feel Marosi has been lent on not to press charges (not that it is down to the individual to now press charges - that decision is down to the CPS).2 -

"He’s OK, it’s not a nice thing that happened today, I don’t know if it’s the first time it’s happened to him in his career. I don’t think Marko will press charges. It’s best to let it go, otherwise he’ll be targeted"

Booing and singing ‘he’s gonna cry in a minute’ when there was quite clearly something serious going on seemed seriously dense to me at the time29

I remain confused.
Clearly there was an incident, which I thought looked shameful in itself, but subsequent reporting of it is unclear.
I thought I saw somebody ‘voluntarily’ leaving up the stairs who rushed back when we scored, that individual seemed to have a companion of some kind, there was a lot of pointing and gesticulations going on generally.
Nothing was thrown as far as I could tell, and prior to events the goalkeeper was the goalkeeper, not goading the fans behind him.
Not being on social media of the type where the morés are seemingly ‘obvious’ my understanding is that a man with a mixed race little boy was ejected, and then identified on the internet.
Seemingly the communications department said that man had been arrested, and was in police custody or something, then apparently nobody has been arrested (not sure regarding ejections).
The thing seems a shameful mess, 90% down to moronic abusive fans, yet 10% down to the ramp up of confusion by the club.
I remain confused.0 -
All i can say is that I am glad i sit in the West upper, if that is an example of north stand support for the team.7

The club still haven’t taken the tweet down saying someone is in custody. I find that staggering.0

I do find this law to be a bit odd. You can call someone a c@nt whether they are one or not (which if you are being literal they would never be one though they might have one) but you cant add their nationality which if you get the right one unlike this instance, is fact.0

Had I been in my normal seat (rather than an aeroplane) I'd have been able to give the full lowdown on this. But considering the bunch who begin their rhapsodies with "OI [INSERT SURNAME]" - yeah, I'm not surprised about any of this0

Not commenting on the club’s reaction to this incident, but Matt Wright wrote in VOTV about the club’s failure to address deteriorating behaviour back in March. I’m not saying that morons respond to public warnings but they do establish a baseline and give fans generally reassurance that the club is aware of and committed to taking action.
The abuse text number is part of a national EFL initiative that the club was behind others in taking forward. I know Mick Everett has had to deal with loads of this crap this season, but the lack of leadership on the ground has definitely been a factor in the overall inadequate response.10
