I'm not sure if someone had offered me a point before this game whether I'd have taken it. Given our fairly blunt attack, I feel like the realist would have, but this is the kind of game, like the Cambridge game, we need to win to try and keep pace. After watching, it just feels like points dropped against a team we absolutely could have beaten. The last two games have been incredibly frustrating to watch.
There positives to pull from. However, I can't get past how much I feel like some fresh options in attack would help mix it up. Teams know exactly what they are getting when Stockley is in the team. I don't think he is undroppable. I would happily throw in many of the players of the bench on for him, Kirk and Fraser for the next game. The whole squad need to be hungrier and grind out these results if they truly want to get out of this league this season.
I'm not doubting the effort, but I came away disappointed again. I want us to work harder to try and put teams away and get these points. There's plenty of things working against that (like these awful, awful L1 referees) but there's more this squad can do.
If there they can't, I'm praying that one element of our transfer business before the window that includes an additional option for Stockley. Probably going to be a long, stressful season either way!3 -

My take on this afternoon........
Sandgaard is an egotistical twat. How many other owner would clap their fans at an away ground. And its not like he's just taken over or funded the signing of Ronaldo.
The unusually warm weather didnt help. Players were spent with 10 to go.
Some good all round play but not having a decent finisher meant we didnt win. This season will go down as the "wasted" one. We will end up 8th -10th and rue not signing someone to challenge Stockley as a No 9.
Even though we need a striker we also need a left footed centre half. O'Connell showed how awkward it us trying to play out on the "wrong" foot.
4500 home fans for a team that lost in the play-offs. Dreadful. I think the league could be spiced up a bit if there was a handicap system based on season ticket sales. Sheff Wed would start on 12 points & teams like Wycombe & Accrington on minus 12. We would start on plus 4.
Cant think JRS can be too pleased having to help Clare out 10 yards from his goal. He is such an exciting player it hurts to see him having to battle for the ball at the wrong end of the pitch. By the time he runs 70 yards with it he's knackered. He should have a free pass to stay on the half way line & not have to come into his own half.
I said 8 points from our first 6 so we are 1 point better off......but I'm the pessimistic one around here.
Ps.
Still no Golfie today though. Oh well, one day we will concede on 13 minutes & end up winning. I might even be alive to see it.7 -
It’s going to take time to turn the ship around, especially with a new playing style being implemented.
Personally feeling pretty positive about the future under Garner. It’s been a decent start.7 -
A point away from home (or better obviously) is always good.
COYR4 -
Deserved no more than a point overall, they stopped us from playing football but, we were unable to overcome that and we got dragged into a physical battle, (which we didn't lose).
If we can sign a striker poacher and find a way to break teams down, happy days. If we don't, 6-8th seems realistic.
Anyway enjoyed my day, good to see so many chums off here as ever and am now on a train full of Arsenal fans home who 'need a striker, two midfielders and a defender or two' apparently.
Up the Addicks!7 -

We were much better than last season, which wasn’t that hard, and well worth a point. It was very hot, and I think Garner should have made four subs by the 60th minute. Fresh legs were definitely needed. For me, Leaburn for Stockley, Jaiyesimi for Kirk or Rak Sakyi, Payne for Fraser, and maybe Henry for Morgan.Stockley’s had a decent start to the season, but his lack of pace was highlighted today.Part of the problem with our play today was that when midfielders were running with the ball they didn’t have many options; a through ball for Stockley to run on to is a no-no, a ball to feet means Stockley’s facing away from the goal and can really only pass backwards or sideways at best, so it was Kirk and JRS providing the main outlets.JRS was brilliant running with the ball today, and took his goal well, but his passing was hit and miss at best.Kirk I thought was good, although many seem to disagree. His assist for the equaliser was excellent, and generally he puts the ball into dangerous areas. Rarely gives it away.
I’m so disappointed with Payne. He was another who kept passing to the wrong side. In fact it felt like more passes went astray from the whole team today than in the rest of this season’s other games combined. Need to sort that out pronto.
One positive was the way we didn’t fall back into all out defence for the last twenty minutes, like we have done so often for the last few years. In fact it felt a bit gung-ho at times. I’m certainly not writing off our season at this stage, although….The next few days will be cru…….3 -

Is it not a good thing that we're doing better than last season.7 - Sponsored links:

the ground was like an oven today, if the pitch was anything near the temperature of the away end then the lack of/lateness of subs is very weird
Kirk was superb 1st half, if he can do 90 minutes of that he'll be a real force in this division
Dobbo outstanding- has a great knack of popping up just the right moment to break down attacks
ref was errm, interesting, I'm still shaking my head at the Rak Sakyi booking4 -

A very good start to the game and a lovely composed finish from Rak-Sakyi to equalise after some extremely poor defending from us saw Wycombe take the lead.
After that, despite the fillip of the equaliser, we unfortunately lost our composure, allowed them to rattle us through their press and we failed to match their level of intensity. We looked shaky defensively, conceded a raft of corners and allowed Wycombe to dominate us. We did a bit better just before half time, with a few good pieces of play from Kirk and I was pleased to go in level at half time.
We were certainly better in the second half - both in keeping possession and in competing for second balls. As a result, Wycombe were unable to build up a head of steam and pin us back. However, with the exception of some flashes of brilliance from Raj-Sakyi, we lacked composure, creativity and drive in the final third.
The game got very stretched towards the end but we squandered a couple of promising positions and a draw was a fair result. A good point away from home against a difficult side but we undoubtedly need to improve and strengthen the squad in order to mount a serious challenge.
I thought we were better defensively in the second half. We looked a little vulnerable earlier on in the full back positions but managed the game better in the second half, with O’Connell a calming influence.
In midfield, Morgan had a quiet game and gave the ball away more in this game than he has in the previous 6 or 7. Regrettably, Payne carried on that trend during his late cameo. Although Fraser had a few nice touches, he was unable to exert a major influence. Dobbo was the main man in midfield and his tackling and interceptions were key in the second half.
Up front, Stockley battled hard against two big centre halves but had to feed largely off scraps. Kirk was good in the first half and early in the second but tends to fade, so it was left to Rak-Sakyi to offer our major offensive threat.
All three away games to date have been a vast improvement on last season’s lamentable performances at Accy, Wednesday and Wycombe, so there are some grounds for optimism but the squad certainly needs reinforcement next week if we are serious about competing at the top end of the table.

Just got back, first time I have seen us live this season and overall slightly disappointed. Thought O'Connell looked good, Clare and Clayden battled well, although I can see some teams taking advantage of Clayden's lack of height. Midfield was very poor in the first half, but seemed to improve in the 2nd. After hearing rave reviews about Morgan, thought he was pretty anonymous today. Young JRS is different class, will be a hell of a player if he progresses as he should. Still think Kirk is a bit of a luxury player, when he can be bothered he looks good, but very lightweight and inconsistent. Bottom line is we won't get promoted with Stockley up front on his own. He seems to moan all the time, is one paced, one dimensional and obviously doesn't fit the system. It's a little concerning that Garner keeps playing him in that role, maybe it's a lack of alternatives but ultimately it will cost us any chance of promotion.5

Was Stockley moaning because he wasn't being supported and was isolated?0

The silly old sod managed to lose his match ticket from his pocket but a kind hearted soul handed it in - if you’re on here and reading this, thank you!!5 -
Surely we have a precedent? We could get Washington back for 300K.3

If Sandgaard had the foresight get him in the fold rather than wasting his spot on acumen on Charlton TV it would likely pay huge dividends.
Has forgotten more about Charlton and football than anyone currently involved in the club has or likely ever will.
Anyway who needs Curbs when you have Martin & the wife.
Who were the experienced football people let go to make way for Martin and Raelynn?
Did anybody make way for Martin & the wife ? Do we even know exactly what they do. Why are you suggesting that I even said that we let experienced football people go so that his family could move in ???
As you say with Martin & Raelynn, who really knows exactly what they do? Many on here believe they exert a good deal of influence over what happens at the Club, so if their roles are that important, I was assuming that someone must have been doing whatever they do before they started doing it and wondered if you knew who, hence my question. If no one has been replaced by them, I guess their roles must be newly created.

One big take that's different from last season.
We would have lost this game. I think it's still early days..we need a striker before the window closes, a more athletic striker to challenge Stockley. Aneke seems to be a lost cause at this point unfortunately.2 -

We miss a Washington type of player, end of. No wonder Stockley looks so isolated. Hopefully TS is aware. I think once this window slams shut we’ll have a better idea of how committed our owner really is. We desperately need support up front for Stockley. That’s the major missing link. I know, I know, it’s been beaten to death. But no harm in beating it a bit more!
And of course, another CB.4
