I think we would have given a better account of ourselves with our first choice left back involved and the option of Chuks on the bench. Neither were available but I still think Bolton will be a tough place to visit for most teams in this division.

Well that's been a stellar couple of days being a Charlton supporter!
  • Only listened to the game and Terry's commentary, but after a flying start  we then sounded absolutely fucking awful!
Morgan, Stockley, Kirk and Lavelle sounded crap, Claydon is not ready for this level of football. JRS and Fraser sounded OK  but overall we got what we deserved....fuck all!
Next 3 games we have to step up and play and win....then we might, just might get this season  going.
If Clayden isn't ready for this level, then most of our under 21s would struggle too...

And that's basically the options we're looking at now going forward.

There’s gonna be a lot of overreactions after today’s performance, especially because of deadline day disappointment. But that’s only our second loss in 10 under Garner (all comps), and on the most part we’ve played good opposition. The season isn’t over by any stretch.
Browny and Curbs are laying in!
They were not this critical of us under Adkins.
  • best team won
I criticise Stockley but also feel sorry for him as he is just not suited to the system
  • May can't come soon enough.
I think the transfer windows shut unfortunately.

  • Charlie Kirk is an embarrassment. Anyone know how he Lasted 75 minutes?

Ganer's post match sounds like Adkins and Bowyer.

Not doing what I told them, not doing what we worked on.

But he has done it in a way that doesn't sound like he passing the buck.

Garner being very honest in the post match. "Shows where we are as a club". Said Bolton have far more depth in their squad.
  • Gotta a great idea. Let's try Stockley as a lone striker and Morgan as our play maker.

Not really, we would probably beat 10 men most of the time.

This season is slipping away rapidly now.
I would like to kid myself it can be made up, and I suppose there is still a chance, but blind faith is so last season, and the season before, and the season before that.

A very disappointing afternoon, although Bolton were the better and more cohesive side and well worth the three points.

We were poor in the first half and, whilst it was disappointing to find ourselves behind at half time after taking such an early lead, we could have no real complaints. Bolton moved the ball well and were afforded far too much space for both of their goals. Stockley was isolated, forlorn and dominated throughout by Santos. Predictably, Rak-Sakyi provided our only real threat, with Kirk very quiet on the left.

Bolton pressed quite effectively, forcing us into long balls, which didn’t present any real threat. Santos started many of Bolton’s attacks, with some very good long passes - aided and abetted by the absence of any pressure on him. Bolton outplayed and overloaded us in midfield throughout the first half.

We were better in second half, with some early aggressive forays down the left from Charles Clayden. Rak-Saki was, however, our only threat up front, with three early shots early in the half and another towards the end. There was zero threat from Stockley and Kirk and we were hardly helped by a series of very poor corners from Morgan.

Defensively, we were a bit shambolic as a collective, although I thought that, individually, O’Connell and Clayden did ok. In midfield, Fraser had some very nice touches, as well as popping up with another goal, Dobson was quiet and Morgan very mediocre. Up top, Rak-Sakyi was a very serious threat but Stockley and Kirk were extremely poor. Stockley’s lack of pace is a real problem in this system and he got no change out of Santos and his colleagues. Difficult to know where we go from here, given our lack of forward options. No amount of work on the training ground is going to bridge the gap between us and the better teams in this division, of which Bolton are certainly one.

well listening to Curbs and Brown.
highly critical of the defenders and keeper. also critical of the midfield for leaving Stockley isolated and resorting to high balls to him and very few ball into the feet, they pointed out he was out performed by their center back and could not win any headers. This points to the fact teams no how we will play and the players to target and thus stop our play.
We had no one on the bench who could make a change in the game as they had.

Don't disagree with you @Fanny Fanackapan shouldn't be relying on Miles either.

Didn't watch this, but hard to square with fluent displays in the cups.

Could it be that certain players who don't mess it up for us in the cup sides are doing so in the League? Naming no names of course. But like...play Payne?

Payne can only be subbed on for Fraser and he had decent game.

Payne and DJ were roaming wide forwards vs Gillingham and they were very hard to mark, instrumental in our play. Sounds like JRS can be equally slippery. Can Kirk?

We need goals, Stockley scores goals in this league but the current formation isn't suiting him. Need to fix that otherwise its going to be a long season

Everything is going backwards. Today's performance was truly awful.

I wonder how long TS will tolerate paying Curbs and Brownie to  lay in to the team and the way the club is managed. And put up with Garner saying the squad is too weak.
I thought about the same thing
