Peter Varney asking for big crowd for Brighton match (Potential Buyers?)
Comments

Whoever this new potential owner is going to be I sincerely hope it’s the right one this time round!!!
I’m sick and tired of Charlton’s bad luck since we got relegated from the Premier League. We ether had a owner who had next to no cash or an owner who is corrupt and has been nothing but bad to Charlton.
Ideally I’d love an owner like Brentford’s. Doesn’t have to have loads of cash but someone who knows how to run the club properly and can push us forward!
Surely that’s not too much to ask ffs?

I don’t doubt there is something happening or possible a potential investor but after the last 15 odd years and the memory of Roland Duchelet and co still fresh I’m not going to get excited over a mystic tweet from Peter Varney, despite his passion for our club.0

But wtf can we hope for, the current ownership is a joke we have to keep hoping for a change that does work which to me is more likely than it ever going right under Sandgaard.Just turn up.
1) cos varney has suggested this game
2) cos tickets are 15 quid for this game
3) cos this is a more appealing fixture than almost any league match
I go every week at home btw. But just turn up to brighton. What’s the harm. It will feel more like a proper match than playing Mk or Morecambe or fleetwood at home with 145 away fans7 -
Got my tickets. Going North Lower for this one.2

I’m no fan of Jimenez and Slater, but what exactly was your alternative? The club had run out of money in 2010. It did again in 2012 - quite literally - but the spivs didn’t sell young players and they left the club in a better place than they found it, on the pitch anyway.
Their ownership wasn’t sustainable and they weren’t good people, but for a while they were a means to an end.0 -

Perhaps the potential investor has been sold a pipe dream and will get a shock when he turns up and the ground isn't packed full with revenue flying in.0 -
Since I can't afford £7 million a year to subsidise the club, seems like £10 (OAP) is the least I can do to "save" the club. By the way theres no guarantee that the next owners will be better....but if we try enough we might turn up a good one.
By the way thanks to TS for saving us from crooks, but over confidence in himself in running a football club has been one of his failings.12 -

Perhaps the buyer has been confirmed and it will be announced before the game?
Seems like it could be a roundabout way of saying that could be the case maybe?3 - Sponsored links:

I can't understand why any fan that still lives local wouldn't want to be at this game regardless of what Varney has tweeted.25

I’m just saying, if not TJ/MS what? Administration? Relegation? These are realistically what would have happened. Or maybe Murray sells it to a group including a convicted fraudster, as was on the table.6 -

My god, I just can’t get my head round anyone being sceptical about PV’s request, or even worse, being in some way suspicious of the motivation behind his tweet.
Anyone who doubts Peter’s bloodline needs to take a rain check.
There’s no question whatsoever of his intention here and it’s for a very specific reason…..just exactly what it is one can only speculate.
Whether Sandgaard is aware of what this could be is unclear but I should imagine he does.
To cut to the chase, it’s either a potential buyer or investor who will be in attendance.
Getting as good an atmosphere and attendance on the night is all part of a better sales pitch……anyone poo pooing the idea or being negative is way out of order as far as I’m concerned.
There is so much apathy around at the moment, it’s genuinely tangible.36 -
I would advise any prospective new owners to avoid two statements of intent, 'We will never again have to sell our young players' and 'We will be in the Premiership in five years time' .10

all this free ticket to non season ticket holder crap but nothing for the loyal supporters who go every week.
this is the opportunity to reward season ticket holders by giving us a free ticket
Exactly. How does that benefit a season ticket holder? Everyone else gets freebies except loyal season ticket holdersBut I do think that this request is different because of from whom it comes from. Peter Varney.
If there is a chance of further investment in our Club that will help us progress on and off the pitch, and hopefully get us out of this League quicker, then as a loyal season ticket holder one would hope that you, and the rest of us that do go, will try and attend if we have the time and money to do so.
The freebie’s bit is another argument altogether and I don’t believe it is relevant in this instance.2 -
Tbf looking at the available tickets to buy on the club website unless they open up more sections there are not many still available0

Can't believe you're all falling for this.
Tommy has formed a band with Varney on bass, Duchatelet on drums, Meire on sax and Southall playing his oboe.
Extended versions of Stairway to Heaven and Bohemian Rhapsody to be played at half-time, prior to the album release in time for Christmas.8 -

You can't hide what's been going on with the attendances and apathy but if we show potential it really can go a long way with potential buyers actually there in the flesh.2 - Sponsored links:

IF this tweet and resulting paranoia about a potential new owner being at the Brighton game is true, do we really think that this game is the first time this latest "Savior" of our great club have been to either The Valley or indeed any game, I very much doubt that would be the scenario...
IF this is all about any new owner, then maybe Varney is just trying to get as many faces he can to witness any announcement, and a cup game against a top half Premier League team seems a good platform, anyway let's just see how this ends up, could be a very interesting December..1 -
The next 2 weeks could be crucial.1

I also think PV is sending a hidden message to Banjo Bill. In that if we can fill the Valley off the back of my tweet, just imagine what we could achieve with PROPER leadership and management1

Varney has asked us to go to the game which will make it a better experience than an empty stadium. Varney obviously thinks it will help and I have faith in him.
If he is asking too much from you, don’t go.8 -
So the game he is hinting to us to attend happens to be a couple of days AFTER the world cup final.
Perhaps it could indicate where a potential suitor is based or just that they are at the World Cup and won't be around until then
Who knows....6 -

I’d be more comfy if he was in the Directors Box on this occasion. 🙂
