Thought id kick this years off. 

Anyone going - my tickets haven't turned up yet am there Weds and Thursday and then on the beers in town on gold cup day. 

no where near as many ante posts as usual this time round, a lot of shorties nackering the market atm. 

bold shout but think constitution hill can be beaten.

    On almost nothing AP and will probably just bet like a mug on the day. As you say, the amount of market-killing short prices has meant there's little value abound, and there wasn't even much in, say, November. Long gone are the days of getting Shishkin at 33s for the Supreme...

    Can't agree on CH though! Why do you think he could go down? Who takes him?

    I have one decent tickle and that's Flooring Porter at 50s for the Stayers. Sportsbook had this as an outlier price a week ago, not reacting quickly enough to the rumours that he'd maybe go back to the smaller obstacles, when everywhere else was like 12s-18s. I don't think his chasing has really worked out, and 50s was a massive price (even before he held an entry) to the Stayers. Now he has been entered, that's best price 14s NRNB.

    Don't know where you are looking at the prices but it's £75 for the Best Mate enclosure. Why anyone would want to go in there though is beyond me.
    Can't be surprised at the prices of drinks at Cheltenham. I went to 3 courses up north a few weeks ago, Catterick, Wetherby and Sedgefield and they were all charging £6,60 for a pint of lager.

    Going for a stag do on the Friday. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't be going, the prices now are an absolute joke. Used to all 4 days, more expensive than a holiday abroad to do that now!

    Nicholls/de la Heys have spent a LOT on a five year old, Teeshan from the Danehill/Troy line .. point to point winner in Ireland and won an Exeter bumper on Sunday by a distance
    Could be anything, either novice chaser, hurdler or in the bumper .. My eyes will be peeled to watch out for this one, be a very skinny price though

    But I'm not sure I'd lump on...

    Tuesday for me staying in Stratford upon Avon for 2 nights taking a few clients 

    We do the steam train into the course like a proper Charlton fan should 🚂 

    Shame our game with Cheltenham isn’t a week later

    The Nicholls factor probably more than halves the price, not that he has ever had the winner of the race.

    The missus got me 2 for the Thursday as an Xmas pressie but thinking of seeing if she can get her money back as the cost of travel, beer, food is just getting silly

    My mob do the steam train as well on the Tuesday. Staying over in Moreton-in-Marsh and doing the Wednesday in the pub before heading for home in the evening

    has everyones tickets turned up yet i bought mine pretty much straight after the festival in 2023, rest of my groups have come but mine as yet havent arrived.

    Bought mine in August and it arrived in November. Cheltenham/Jockey Club usually pretty good on getting tickets out so might be worth an enquiry to them

    I get what you're saying but it's kind of what you make of it. Since they reduced the capacity and finished the reconstruction work a few years ago it's much easier to get around, get a beer and see the horses in the parade ring etc. I'll never get the appeal of the Guinness Village. Always packed and you can't see fuck all from there apart from on screens. As for the price, what major sporting event isn't a rip off these days

    Sadly if there’s a market for it the prices will keep heading north. Compare to say Take That being £130 for a standard lower tier ticket at The O2 and £16 a glass a wine and it looks fair value!

    I worked at the NEC for a bit and at one point was offered Robbie Williams tickets for two quid each. I considered buying the lot and just not going (can't stand the unbearable twat) but decided he could then claim it was sold out so I went to the pub instead

    I went covid-gate, since then a bit reluctant to go just because of the price mainly. We enjoyed staying in Bristol and a few days away but still feels a bit harder to do these days. 

    Not really adding much to the discussion, we are going to go to a local pub and have a few beers and watch there on the friday. Not the same but at least we can make a day of it, last year i had a good one so not expecting much this year, moneywise..

    years ago I was working in Wolverhampton for a few weeks .. the hotel I was in was packed out with race goers on Cheltenham week, the closest and most reasonably priced accommodation many people could find

    Is the Cheltenham Festival a celebration of them retaining their L1 status at the expense of Alfie May and our relegation to L2?

    If you book accommodation early enough, there are reasonably enough priced places to stay in surrounding areas like Stonehouse and Stroud and you can pick the train up from there or get a cab.

    I’ve been four or five times now and going on the Wednesday this year. I’ve always have a great time but can understand why people struggle with it due to the travelling, number of people, cost etc but the more you go, the more you learn what to do and what not to do…

    after an email to the jockey club on weds my tickets conveniently were printed and received Saturday. 

    this will be the last time we do 2 days at it, next year am going to do a day trip for the tuesday only.

    with previews about to start kicking off anyone got any fancies, this is the least amount of ap bets I've ever had on. 

    currently there are some v tought races to call there are 4 that are odds on faves

    Tuesday 
    3.30 constitution hill 1/4 
    4.10 lossiemouth 4/7 

    weds 
    3.30 el fabiolo 

    Friday 
    1.30 sir gino 

    any previews i listen to ill stick up on here the tips.

    By all accounts, the horse started to drift like the Kon Tiki on Betfair before Henderson made his announcement. That is insider trading and in the old days suitable action, from memory, would have been taken - either the market was suspended because someone like Henderson or Nicholls were article contributors would let the PR man before it went into the public domain or bets were voided back to that point. Can't speak for the traditional bookies though.
