POST-MATCH THREAD: Charlton Athletic vs Portsmouth: Saturday 24th February 2024 | KO 15:00

First clean sheet in twenty-two matches and a point against top-of-the-league Pompey is something to hang on to. We were competitive throughout, aggressive, and hard working. We had our chances, as did they. We hurried and harangued them and stayed organised, where this season we’ve been negligent, we were focused on our game plan.

Again, something to build on, if not the ultimate reward.

Charlton 0 Portsmouth 0

Over to you.

It's a good point obviously but how many now without a bloody win?

Typical Charlton. Play like eunuchs all season and grow a pair when it could be too late.

    Played Addicks.

Good result, sure some will go on about how it’s all Chicken Lecken, but onwards and upwards soon

We learn how to cross a ball we will be winning every week with this team.

Don’t see why we’re so worried about relegation if we’re a point off the league leaders!

Clean sheet is massive and should give the team some confidence. Had a few chances to get the win too but the luck didn’t quite fall for us. Play like that next week and we might get 3 points

Two decent results against promotion chasing sides in a row.  Get through Tuesday in decent shape and then hopefully we can push on.  NJ is building yhe foundations for us to formulate our recovery.

An important point but in the immortal words of Catherine Tate’s Nan “worra load of old shit”.  Barely an ounce of skill on show from either side. Lots of effort but this really is a piss poor league. Now seen Pompey, Derby and Bolton and don’t particularly rate any of them. Pompey were horrible.  We kept a clean sheet but were a hard watch.

Can’t knock the commitment and organisation from both players and manager.

We keep this intensity up we should beat teams around us in March and April which will be enough.

2 good consecutive results, a clean sheet against the leaders ... I still don't think we are going down and these two games have done nothing to change my mind

That wasn’t pretty, but it was effective. Draw was probably a fair result, but we could easily have nicked it. Clean sheet, and a point against the leaders (who didn’t look all that).
Jones won everything in the air, no one else played great if I’m honest, but they all battled.

  • I've seen enough the last 2 games to think we'll be ok once we play the bottom half sides and can then hopefully get some wins. Much better defensively but a blow to now lose Jones for 2 games.

A clean sheet draw! It's a shame Jones is going to be suspended for 2 games after racking up another booking, and we could've done without Shrewsbury beating Reading as it opens up the gap, but there's definite signs of a turn around, even if we're not steaming up the table yet.

    Was the booking for mouth?

    Yes according to @LouisMend
  • Totally different under St Jones.

    Clean sheet against top team.

    Platform to build on.
  • We offer so little going forwards, Kanu and May put in so much effort with hardly any support from the midfield. Bakinson was poor, Thomas's passing gets worse each week and our set pieces were dreadful. Nice to get a clean sheet but there's a lack of creative quality across the team. Only 2 teams won less games than us.
  • Massive blow to now lose Jones for 2 games. Didn't know that. He's back in form and we needed him to deal with Pompey's aries bombardment from throws
