Why not? He made a monumental cock up that cost us two points.
I mean, it happens and don't throw him under the bus completely, but it is what it is.
But we've not won a game 1-0 since the opening day of the season, we cant keep relying on our attacking players to score us two / three goals per game, because the Defence isn't keeping to its side of the agreement.11 -
Watched the NJ interview.
I tend to believe him when he says that he is 'More disappointed than any human being on the planet.' It's great init?4 -

A sickening loss of two pts.
But it's Isted's decision making from there where he makes a dogs dinner of it because having set himself he then should have whacked it but he instead takes a 2nd (bad) touch, turns into trouble to try to get out of the hole without knowing there was a player there to nick the ball away. Isted effectively guessed and hoped at this point which as last line of defence you can't do.
We can't afford any more mistakes like this because we are one defeat away from being right back in the mire. But I'm happy that Nathan J has dished out the bollocking and I'm sure he'll give Isted another chance and move on.

Nah that'd be moronic.

We know that Isted screwed up and it's done, nothing we can do about it now. Hopefully Isted will put in a performance that erases the memory of his feck up, but I still think he is a good keeper and we cant do anything about it until this season has gone so lets move on and get the points we need, another four next week and I'd be happy.11

He nearly mucked up in first half too with one swirling by his post. For the benefit of @Garrymanilow above, I’ve been saying this all season, not suddenly screeching it.Two big matches coming up now v teams below us. Need six points from those. On the positives, new boys REG, Gillesphey, Small, Coventry all excellent today. And Coventry and Dobbo showed they can link up well in the middle.0

An absolute goalkeeping howler which totally gutted me as they wouldn't have scored if we'd still be playing now.
I'm glad we also have at last got parity between home and away fixtures played. To me that makes our league position look more correct.
People saying we must get 4 points minimum from the next two games are wrong and clearly don't understand the nuances of a relegation battle. Two is not the end of the world and 3 is acceptable should we win on Tuesday.
Having said that imo with our current form, we should get at least 4, but 6 is a definite possibility, especially if we score first on Tuesday evening.1 -
What makes me so frustrated is Northampton were absolutely awful, and they’re not the first club we have faced this season where the standard is so poor, and yet they’re sitting happily in mid table. They offered nothing and we literally handed the draw to them.
We weren’t particularly good first half but much better in the second and really should have put the game to bed. May had a couple of great chances, the header was unlucky, the time he took when we pressed high was not like him at all, pull the trigger early and that’s 2-0.
Watson had a decent game, but his end product is not good. Can only hope that Ramsay’s is far better and we suddenly have two athletic wing-backs with Small and Ramsay.
Kanu does so much running, I’m glad we protected him.
Campbell is not a striker and got in Small’s way twice when he should’ve been in the box. Can’t see him being here next season, think he needs a fresh start elsewhere where he plays out wide and not here, there, and everywhere.
Gillesphey was blowing after 75 minutes, he won’t start on Tuesday. The defence on the whole done well though.
A few moments of improved quality or decision making and we would’ve won that comfortably. I also feel if Aneke was in the squad and came on for the last 15 minutes, we would have won that.
Cheltenham on Tuesday now is massive. They will be right up for it, and I hope May’s saving his finishing for his return because no one else is playing down at the bottom until Saturday, so a win will put us 14th ahead of Carlisle at home.14 -
Was at the game. I don't see why Terrell Thomas gets so much criticism.
I would have been irritated if he had put that ball into touch to give Northampton a chance to throw it into the box so laye in the game. The back pass was a decent option to take.
I know he lumps it sometimes but I thought he won every header yesterday and cuts out so many opposition moves with his reading of the game.
And if NJ makes him captain in Dobbos absence then that says it all for me.20 -
On the match thread - after our goal - I questioned whether Lady Luck had changed sides. I was clearly wrong (what's new). But interestingly a couple of people suggested that the deflection wasn't luck, it was down to improvement under the new manager. So surely, by that logic, the equaliser was also the fault of Jones?
I think Jones is a far better manager than the previous few and I can see the improvement for myself, but we have leaked goals due to individual errors for a couple of years now, under previous (less popular) managers there have been large numbers of people blaming those managers for the results of matches where individual errors have cost us points. I can honestly say that, right or wrong I have been consistent in blaming those individuals rather than the manager, I simply refuse to blame a "system" or "game plan" for individual errors. Players need to stop being shit (I include the strikers who missed, or failed to get to the ball when in excellent positions in that) at crucial moments.
We are a bloody unlucky club, too.2 -

I remember that Spurs fans made a concerted effort to slow down their rendition of ’oh, when the spurs’ a few years ago and it seems to have stuck.
The question is that if an ’older’ fan started singing it at its original speed, would other ’older’ fans show solidarity and join in?1 -
The fact is that both Maynard Brewer and Istead are absolutely useless goalkeepers.
The goalkeeper is so important, and these two are so bad that it is embarrassing.
I am sure that Nathan has already identified who he wants for next season, and Maynard Brewer and Istead will quickly be shown the door,
I hope that next season we will have a goalkeeper who is competent. Maybe even someone like Dylan Phillips coming back.0 -
Why do some keeping adding an 'a' to Isted's name? It's not even a difficult one.4

Charlton should have won that one.Alfie May won the EFL player of the year in London awards that may have impacted his concentration.A focused Alfie scores & passes in the missed chance before the Istead feck up. These things happen for strikers & Alfie remains a great striker & asset. Good interview at the awards, if you have not seen it
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nzM6kxeJGDcMistakes do happen in football & L1. I trust Nathan Jones to address & reduce them & improve the players. As long as Istead learns from it, it’s manageable. On a positive note, Charlton are 5 unbeaten. The team are working hard. A rested Aneke ready for the important game against Cheltenham. The table still looking better- Cambridge & Shrewsbury well in the mix now. A couple more wins & 4 or 5 teams above Charlton are in there too. The key thing is that it is definitely in Charlton’s hands & if they continue to work as hard, the results will happen. A bit more clinical in the final third. We will get there.2 -
Very strong performance.
Three decent chances missed by May
One extraordinary goalkeeping error cost us all three points.
A point away against a team much higher in the table.
That's it.7 -
One aspect I didn't like from yesterday was the two defenders coming back into the box for short goal kicks? What was all that about?
It just invites pressure on ourselves and we really aren't good enough to be doing that kind of thing yet.7 -

Win Tuesday and yesterday is a good point.5

Why Coventry held onto the ball so long in those highlights around 53 seconds I don't know. Alfie particularly but Kanu also we're through with a quick return ball. He held onto it long enough for their defense to be back and Alfie's chance was that much harder
Alfie and Ladapo missed a number of chances. We definitely need another striker in the summer. I think the squad is decent but misses the sparkle of 3-4 top class players you need to get promoted.
Need to stay up first of course. We should be doing that relatively straight forwards I think.3 -
Instead of focusing on the glaring error at our end, I was more concerned with events at the other end. That game should have been dead & buried long before their equaliser, but we failed to capitalise on our dominence. I don't recall their GK having to make any good saves. He was beaten twice, once by a deflection and the post saved his blushes on the second one. Once we took DK off, the chances of scoring were even less likely with "the spectator" replacing him, and TJ replacing May was never going to amount to anything. The game was screaming out for a Chuks introduction for the last 20 mins, but NJ decided (and probably rightly-so) to rest him this weekend. The subs were certainly a downgrade. That's not NJ's fault though, as this is the hand he's been dealt until the summer.
Overall, despite the disappointment of how the match panned out, going away to a team sitting 10th(?) at 3pm and getting a point from them is not something we'd have done a few weeks ago.
We'll be fine.......5 -
We really missed Chuks yesterday. With the high press from the front tactics, you want 2 strikers on the bench so that the forwards can really work hard, and be replaced by fresh legs.
Tedic might have been really poor, but he would have been more useful to us now than Fiorini.1 -
Does anyone on here know any dodgy geezers, willing to do a spot of kidknapping on Tuesday?
Just lock this fella in a cupboard and release him at 10pm.

There's some good work by their forwards once the back pass goes to Isted, blocking off his easy pass to Jones (by the scorer), which forces him to take the extra touch, the 7 closing down ahead to get in ahead of REG. There was only one pass on from the view we have to our player in midfield (Coventry/ Dobson?) and that opportunity was lost.0

We simply have to pick up a point on Tuesday. Losing to Cheltenham would mean that we are just a point from safety and both Cheltenham & PV would still have 2 games in hand over is. Beating Cheltenham would be the perfect scenario but we've only won away twice this season & although we've just beaten Derby away that could be seen as a "one off" at the end of the season.
And then we have to be beating Carlisle on Saturday. Playing at home to the team rock bottom who have just lost 3-1 at home to Reading. Frankly, if you want to stay up then beating the bottom team at home is going to be your best bet. We probably need another 10-12 points (so 3 wins & a few draws) so not winning that game just piles on more pressure to win other (more difficult) games.5 -

Firstly the positive. They were in decent form and I can hardly remember an away performance where we stopped the opposition creating anything at all worth mentioning. The negative was we still managed to draw a game like that. I think there is now too much about us to get dragged into the bottom four but it is Charlton I suppose.0
