  • Good point Rizzo but the existence of God isn't proven simply by the worldly success of a person or sports team. That has echoes of the prosperity gospel. If NJ left the club in 5 years and the whole club converted ~ because he had inspired them so much by his example and by his life I would count that a fruitful chapter in his life. If he failed to get us promoted, I wouldn't demand he stays in the job. The two things are very separate. Inspiring others to turn to God is one thing. Winning football matches is something else. But BOTH could happen. And I think NJ WILL get us promoted AND he WILL win souls for Christ too.
I very much doubt that there are many, if any, people so weak-willed that they get converted to your cult through a post-match interview.

I’m a 100% atheist and have zero time for religion of any kind. What I will say though is that I prefer people like Jones who are obviously committed to their faith and feel comfortable to display it at any given moment than the hypocrites who pay lip service to religion because they feel they must. The classic example are American politicians who regardless of their own standpoint feel compelled to add God bless America at the end of every speech just because it’s expected. Obama included and there is no way that man believes in a god.

What a horribly un-Christian thing to say.
  • "win souls for Christ".

Like some sort of warped tombola.

What happens if it turns out you've been worshipping the wrong god all along? Allah is gonna be pretty pissed off with you!
  • Actually SoK ~ Nathan Jones references God in nearly every "lengthy" interview (that hasn't been edited down) He attributes everything to his faith. I can see its the driver. I hope he inspires many Addicks to get back to or discover their faith and the Christian roots to this country and the Western world.

The lights have almost gone out here but while it still flickers there is hope. God bless you. And COYA!
In my experience with religious people this sort of talk is basically an excuse for thinly veiled racism.

    No thanks.

I think if Chris Powell didn't manage to convert the whole club by his example then Nathan Jones isn't going to either.

And in this case, not even thinly veiled racism.

PS of course, the "western world" (Greek, Roman, Norse, Germanic, Frank, etc) existed long before people started worshipping a Jewish rabbi from the Middle East
  • One of my colleagues from a few years ago came out of a very religious family. He himself dropped religion a few years earlier. My colleague told me that his brother was telling my colleagues kids that their father would be going to hell, when he dies.

    Vile stuff.

And you haven't even mentioned the big one, The Taiping Rebellion, which caused 20 million deaths, was started by a bloke who claimed to be the brother of Jesus Christ and whose aim was to convert people to his particular brand of Christianity.
And let us not forget the red elephant in the room - Communist Stalin killed 60 million and Communist Mao killed 100 million.
In fact the one guarantee is that where communism is spread ~ war is ALWAYS an essential part of it. It doesn't even promise salvation or hope or peace in its dogmas.  So the thought that Communism will somehow "stumble upon" these noble things is ridiculous. I think one will find that the desire for earthly transient power is at the heart of nearly all conflicts.

    100% agree with this.

If you study comparative religions and in this instance ~ Islam  you will find that "allah" says in the quran that the Torah and the gospels are incorrupt and to be believed. I would have to agree with this sura entirely.

Quite possibly yes. But he may inspire many to consider where he gets his hope and his strength from ...and look into it. That is enough. CP was another great example and I am sure many did likewise.

    It's a word game "coya".

Yes, that's not on at all. Clearly not someone in friendship with Christ.

  • And here is is. The fear rhetoric of the cult always comes out.
It's not fear rhetoric. We were playing a word game with the letters "coya". Do follow the thread above.

Slavery, homophobia, violence and misogyny are all "values" which are promoted in the New Testament.  I think these "values" ought not to be taught.
Could you furnish us with citations in the gospels that underpin this rather bleak claim Chizz? I don't know such followers of Christ. Love all, serve all is His message. Starting with loving Him.
  • That’s nothing, the Prophet Muhammad married a six year old
    Well pointed out cafcDave.

But the New Testament isn't just the gospels, it's also the epistles, so you're indulging in a touch of sleight of hand here. It's probably going to be St Paul's letter to someone or other, cos it normally bloody is.
  • I believe according to the Bible Jesus said the word that came before him, the Old Testament, is to be followed. I take that to mean (amongst other things) the Ten Commandments and Leviticus.
    Anybody ever read Leviticus ffs?

Ah, but isnt Jesus supposed to have wiped the slate clean on some things, such as what can and cant be eaten at a later date? Which is why Christian's dont have to follow the same rules as Jews?

Which is really handy. Follow these rules, unless I change my mind at a later date. But it's all the word of God. Magic. That's crystal clear then. Cheers.
  • Going to hell is surely a worthless threat if you aim it at somebody who doesn't believe.
  • Going to hell is surely a worthless threat if you aim it at somebody who doesn't believe.
Yes but aiming it at children is really nasty.

@ValleyOfTears. Isn’t that what conservative Christians believe though? That all unbelievers will go to hell.
  • I got a decent answer from a Christian once who said her idea of hell was not living a Christian life.
Well it was thought provoking at least.
